For those who can't see the green line (because they are using a newer version): before inserting the effect "Stitch sub-paths" try to insert the "Interpolate sub-path" and to set the step number to 2.
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!
Thanks for the tip! :D
A million thanks!
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thanks heaps! I was about to give up and move on, frustrated.
New on Inkscape, Nick...
This was my first try and I made it really good under your guide.
I think you are very generous by sharing your knowledge.
Thanks a lot, master!
+Raúl Saucedo Glad to hear you were able to follow the tutorial. Thanks for watching!
Thanks to you, Nick!
To complete the effect, select all the paths, and add a linear or radial gradient to fade out the ends. That's how you get the smooth fade-in/fade out of the original graphic.
+C Rogers Thanks for clarifying. I must've forgotten to do that in the video.
No problem. That's the easy part really, but just for completeness.
Could you change the thickness of each line individually but selecting each line or could you do it through the effect tool? IE thick lines on the outside transitioning into skinny lines in the middle?
You have really been a blessing with the tutorials. I always notice that it's always those 1 or 2 people who dislike the videos. I guess that no matter how wonderful your videos are, it's always someone you can never please. Thanks and keep up the excellent work Nick!!!
Thanks Kelvin, you've been around for a while and I appreciate your support! I just look at dislikes as a signal of relevancy. Every big UA-cam channel and popular video I know of gets at least some dislikes. Having no dislikes pretty much means the video just didn't get much views and isn't very relevant. You're also right about not being able to please everyone. It's impossible.
I really like to thank you, i have tried to understand Inkscape by my own, but there are no good tutorials such as yours!!! Keep up the good work man!
You make the best Inkscape content on UA-cam BY FAR!! Thank you for your time and effort.
Thank you
This is the best tutorials out there, thank you for the effort, I watched all the ads, so you can get paid for this, as it was really useful and done clearly.
You have such clear, instructive videos.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you so much!
I have just subscribed.
More power to you in 2021 and beyond!
Finally I Finish this playlist~~ Woooooo
Hello Nick...Thank you for sharing your knowledge and skills on this platform. I'm blown away by creators like yourself who teach valuable skills for free.
I'm commenting on this video in particular because I have the latest version of Inkscape, 1.0 I think, and some of the features used in this video did not function
for me as described or were simply not available as far as I could tell, the green line for example. I could not get the object on my screen to warp or behave
as demonstrated even when I manipulated the nodes. I'm not yet familiar enough with the software to work out a solution, so after several attempts I gave up and deleted everything.
I know you probably can't update videos this old and I don't expect a reply to my issues, since I don't see a reply to other recent comments.
But maybe you will read this and consider making a new video demonstrating the warp effect in say Gimp, or Affinity Designer, if that's possible.
Either way, thank you. I really appreciate your videos.
A tip: When I tried to follow this, my lines were thick, not thin like those shown. The secret if someone else has the problem is when you click on the bezier pen, a new toolbar appears above the select button (starts with the word Mode). Make the drop down for shape none. Mine was set on ellipse.
Great videos on this channel. I never tried this feature. Inkscape is fantastic. Possibly the best Linux art app. A lot of people are raving about Affinity Designer. It's cool for sure. More polished in some ways but I think Inkscape is better. Illustrator is still the monopoly but I don't think you necessarily need it.
I haven't tried Affinity yet but I'm intrigued by it. And no you certainly don't need to use Illustrator to create good vector graphics. To get a job working for an agency, they'll want you to use Adobe software. But if you're going to freelance and work for yourself, you could certainly get the job done with Inkscape.
This is the problem. You can do a whole lot in Inkscape and if you work yourself, nobody cares what programs you use. They only care about the results but if you try to look for a job they always want Adobe skills as if skills in Inkscape couldn't be crossed over to Illustrator in a few days anyway. It's all just vector graphics. Same techniques. It's the same with Photoshop. There are other apps to edit photos, bitmaps or do painting which are in fact often better specialised for those jobs but no, they want you to be an "advanced" Adobe user.
This is cool... except I have Inkscape .92, I don’t get a green line, and there’s no midpoint node. 😞 Would you be willing to update this, please? 🥰
i have same problem
I found a way to solve this problem: before to add the "Stitch sub-path" insert "Interpolate Sub-path" and set the step number to two. After this follow the tutorial and the green line will magically appear. Don't ask me why though ^.^
@@bluehackfull Thanks for sharing :D
@@bluehackfull thank you so much... It worked! 😃 but can you tell me why the green line was not appearing before? 🤔
as always. amazing. amazing, amazing!!!
in the new versionafter adiing stitch effect you will add bend effect and click in phath along which the bend the original path
it doesn't seen quite the same - I couldn't make the lines fold over in the middle like how he does it at 2:44.
Me too the same problem
Wow !! Amazing nick, the graphic encyclopaedia :)
Nice, informative and to the point. Thanks for the tut.
@Logos By Nick can you please suggest any alternative for this affect? As you might have known that in newer version green line does not appear. Thanks
😓 Ive tried this ttorial in inkscape 1.0 it didn't work

Interesting effects, Thanks!
Nick, your are the best,
Hi, I'm using Inkscape version 0.92.4, I notice that the green line is no longer there. I assume that it's an additional effect that I need to put in called bend path? So I did as you said with the addition of the bend path but the shape comes out different. Furthermore, there is a comment here regarding adding linear or radial gradient to fade out the ends. Can you explain that as I am a complete beginner to inkscape
I have this problem too. there is no green line. What is the solution? :(
SAme problem here
Hello Nick,
i just discovered Inkscape and your GREAT Tutorials.
Having a lot of Fun Learning about this Program.
These Abstract Lines are really nice, but i have one little Question:
Is there a way to create like a "grid" like this, where i can then move the Nodes around and give it abstract Shapes ?
So far i only found out how to make Horizontal OR Vertical Lines ... not both at the same time :-)
Thanks in Advance for your answer !
Daniel
Hi Nick,
Great videos. Thank you. One comment. Sometimes you use menu items without explaining what they do. I have gone through all your "Inkscape Explained" videos in case I missed something there but I didn't see anything. The commands I am talking about are path - object to path, path stroke to path. Not sure why you use them in this video and others. Thanks again.
As someone new to inkscape, I really appreciate having these videos as a resource. I was wondering though, how did you get that nice neat black layout, that looks similar to adobe illustrator? Because my inkscape looks like it belongs in 2002
Thanks. I wrote an article about installing the dark theme and updated icon set here: blog.logosbynick.com/design/how-to-make-inkscape-go-dark/
Thanks for the reply! its amazing how much better the program feels just by changing the window color and the icons
nice, i didn't notice that!
+OfficialPearArts Thanks. Yeah it's a neat little trick that has come in handy several times.
i swear i was looking for this can you make more abstract tutos like this? plz i need it for backgrounds :)
reliable as always!
Amazing Mr. Saporito. I would like to know why you are using inkscape 0.48 in place of the most recent 0.91. Thank you
I like 48 better and there's a lot of minor reasons why. I wrote an article about it if you're interested: logosbynick.com/why-i-dont-like-inkscape-0-91-an-honest-review/
thank you
Great stuff!
When I got to the Stitch paths part, NO lines showed up. :(
2:19 I didn't get green line and can not edit as you did.
But I use 1.2 of inkscape
Green line does not appear after click on edit on canvas.....plz help Nick
Thank you.
After I enter the number of path "30" and then click the stroke path icon, the green line doesn't appear.
You used windows before.. I think inkscape has influenced you to migrate to ubuntu somehow, lol.. nice video!!
Why'd you go "stroke to path" at the end? PS: thanks - videos are awesome.
Can you change the thickness of the lines? How?
Edit: Solved! Added a stroke and made it thicker.
For people that having problem of green line not showing when click on edit on canvas, this www.reddit.com/r/Inkscape/comments/b1jir9/pls_help_no_green_line_to_edit_stitch_subpaths_in/ might helps, but can get a little bit trickier
I'm having issues with this. I can set 30 paths but after I click the edit on canvas button, the green line doesn't appear and I can not curve the paths.
I found the solution. Its a glitch. Once pressed, the green node will appear on the top left corner of your document and out of view until you zoom out and look for it.
Thank you for the video. I followed this tutorial but when I saved it as .svg file the image file is coming as transparent image. Whereas if I save it as .png the picture is visible with transparent background. Where did it could go wrong in he case of .svg?
I would go to Document Properties and make sure the graphic is within the page border - make the page border visible and place the graphic inside of it
Hello, Thanks for what you are doing, I have a little problem is that when I click combine everything dispears, Could you help please ? Thanks
I don't have the green line between the 2 points how do I fix that Please!!!
THANK YOU....
Hi, would it be possible to tie the form in a knot?
Sir edit on canvas isn't doing anything. Can u tell me how to fix it?
Is there any way to save only abstract lines in PNG?
Nick, can we get tapered sub-paths and how ?
Do you think interpolate will get the same result?
Almost the same, but not the same
Does anyone know how to replicate this in GIMP?
any idea by which he made the intro video ?
It's an intro template I bought from IntroMaker.net. You just upload your own logo.
Nick Saporito thanks mate
No green line to me. :´(
How would u do text like this?
why u doing too fast?
You're speaking and moving a bit too fast. It's really hard for my ears and eyes to pick up your instructions while trying it out on my own software at the same time. I highly suggest you should try doing close-ups of every button icon in baby steps so that even a kid can learn how to use it.
it was nice but you could've showed another better example.
Thanks for the feedback
why bro
why
Sorry, but that's a hell of a lot of work just to create some lines.
