    Every time, I pause before I start the video and think of how I would do it. Every time, Nick shows me a much better and simpler way to do it.

    Fantastic, as always. Thanks for the video. Min 5:20 approx. If instead of giving it a color before converting it to a pattern, you apply Unset Paint (the question mark in fill & stroke) the pattern will be editable also in terms of color.

    Thanks a lot. I am always amazed how "simple" a solution to something that looks very complex can be. I love surprises. I hope they never end.

    Thanks Nick, very clear explanations. When designing patterns, I avoid turning on snapping to bounding boxes : just snapping to paths : cusp nodes generally, or I set bounding boxes to geometric.

    I'm glad I have found your channel! I'm familiar with Corel, Affinity Design, and some Illustrator, but I wanted to get into Inkscape!

    Ive been going about this the hard way in paint tool sai for years. Ive known there were easier ways to accomplish pattern making but this is the most concise way ive seen possible. Thank you. This is going to shave hours off my work time.

    Thanks for the lesson Nick!
    I wonder if it's possible to preview how the pattern tiles while working on it. This would be so nice!

    • @eldelacajita
      @eldelacajita 8 місяців тому +1

      I think you could use a tiling path effect, which shows the resulting pattern in real time, and when you're fine with it, use a single tile to generate the fill pattern as Nick shows here.

    • @eldelacajita
      @eldelacajita 8 місяців тому +1

      Another great way of doing that is selecting an object, and using Edit/Clone/Mosaic clone (or similar name). Once you create the tiled clones as a pattern, you can edit the original clone and see the changes in real time. The awesome thing is that this method can be applied to any object, even groups, and not only to single paths. If you use a group as source for the tiled clones, you can later edit the group and even add or remove objects from it, and the changes will be reflected across the tiled clones.

    Hey Nick, thank you for this vid! There's something that you did with the shape builder at "3:56" when you say that you were going to draw a line to this area to connect this all together. I would like to know how'd you do it?

    Your content never disappoints! I'd be interested in a periodic Inkscape software development content. I've heard there is a problem with CMYK that is being addressed behind the scenes. I also understand an investment by the team has been made. I'm interested to hear from you on these kinds of topics.

    • @eldelacajita

      Do you follow Martin Owens (@doctormo)? His updates are great, and he's the one doing the color/CMYK refactoring. Apart from his work on Inkscape, he usually covers other interesting developments, funding, etc. It's a great way to keep yourself up to date with the project.

    How do you ensure equal distance between the circles? My snapping is not working right at all.

    I liked this video as much as the UA-cam compression algorithm dislikes it. Which is to say "a lot." 🙈

    But how do I save the pattern so I can use it again? It doesn't seem to automatically save for me on inkscape.

  • @3dMistri
    @3dMistri 8 місяців тому +1

    How to save patterns so we can reuse them or save them in pattern templates ?

    • @CTRL_SMarcos
      @CTRL_SMarcos 8 місяців тому

      Create a specific svg for your patterns. In Inkscape follow this path Preferences/ System/ User paint servers and copy your file to that folder.

    • @LogosByNick
      @LogosByNick  8 місяців тому +2

      You could also save your document as a template and any time you need the design for the pattern you can open the template.

    • @Mariam-Mina
      @Mariam-Mina 8 місяців тому

      @@LogosByNickif I open that template, it’ll make me having access only to 1 new pattern you just created, isn’t it? What about if you want to have access to all the new patterns you created over years in one template? Thanks.

    Inkscape actually has a repeatable pattern template
    In splash screen:
    Section: Other
    Template Name: Seamless Pattern
