The electric light is an intensity of signal, not left or right. When I hit electric signal, I found I had to move in multiple directions to find the path of the wire.

Yes, you need to hold the button continuously for the device to sense.
What does the green light mean when you find and go over top of a stud?
The green arc light illuminates when an electric line is detected.
