Finally a true, unbiased, detailed, and fair test. This is awesome bro thanks. With how good you were talking about the Zircon I assumed you were going to be ignoring its faults and highlighting it’s good features but it’s clear you were being objective. I’ve definitely subbed after this video
In this video you can see the Franklin detects live cables as a stud, which wasn't tested in this video for the franklin. So yes there is bias, and an unfair test, as the zircon was tested with the cable up against the wall. ua-cam.com/users/clipUgkxrYl8Bw1W25wo7W3MzXR7uBm0PbkOTcOx?si=3rAKoI5NeTw41Brv
I bought a Zircon several years ago and right out of the box it was a piece of junk! Always marking edges or just before an edge as center, Ive drilled many, many, many bad holes and just resorted to finding center with a tape and that actually worked better but takes a lot longer so trying one of these today to put up base board and hang some pictures. Great video.
Glad i came across this video... I am an architect student and this will come in handy on projects and as built drawings and just to have in my toolbox for any home renovations.. will def be going with the Franklin finder !
Very well done. Your honesty is the number key with your testing. Although now we know that it's not good when Franklin Sensor has to go up gains thicker drywall, it's still accurate on lessor thickness drywall. I will get one as well. Thank u.
I suspect the reason the Franklin Sensors was giving you some false reading there for a while was because you had your hand running along the bottom of the unit. That will throw off the reading. You need to keep your hand on the handle. Nice review.
I could *not* find the plaster ceiling studs in my garage, using *3* different Zircon testers. I got the Franklin 710+ (yours here) & on the first try bam! Exact locations, even across/showing a 4” double stud. It’s a keeper. Since I’m not looking for wires this was a no-brainer! I believe their M150 model also includes electric detection but haven’t tried it.
I bought the mid-level zircon and it couldn’t even find the wall. I exchanged it for the deep sensor model and it wasn’t much better. The Franklin worked well. Conclusion: If rating on a scale of A-Z, Zircon is named perfectly
With detecting metal on the zircon, it senses within a range. You’re supposed to mark when it hits on on side, then mark when it hits on the other side. Your metal stud should hopefully be centered between your two marks.
So your 1st stud finder zircon detected early when that happens your suppose to mark that with a pencil then from the right side when it detected early you mark that so then you will easily detect on your own where the center of your beam it. So its still a pretty reliable stud finder ;) seems like 👍 mark your edges lol then you find the centre lol
Thank you sir for the video. The testing made me reconsider my choice. I have the Zircon it's better than my old Stanley,. I find the Zircon troubling doesn't always find the stud, also wonder when I get it ready to scan wonder if it calibrated the same each time. Franklin gets favorable reviews, very little on Bosch sensors.
I’m goin to try the Franklin. I have the Zircon multi scanner pro SL and it is extremely inaccurate. I have to spackle a big part of my wall because I drilled where it said the stud was and it wasn’t there. Thanks for making this video.
Thanks for your great video, I'm trying to mount my TV on the wall and used a ac finder to inspect the live wire, there are live wire everywhere on the wall 🤯 I don't know how to drill wall safely, I have tasted the multi sensor other place and worked well.... I'm not sure why there are lives wire everywhere on that wall 🤯
Thank you for the detailed analysis of both stud finders. I just purchased the Franklin from amazon. It arrived today and was looking for the correct to use. Glad I made a good choice.
Just wanted to mention that I just purchased the franklin unit, and it is perfectly accurate in finding studs, BUT - it is not designed to find electric lines. so, no surprise that it did not detecting it.
I’m glad you found it useful 👍🏽😊 I’m glad it doesn’t detect electric lights because it would mistaken it for a stud. Strictly made only for studs. It’s my #1 go to.
I wonder if the franklin sensor didn't read the double drywall was because you started the sensor out on an actual stud. I know in other sensors you need to calibrate the sensor where there isn't a stud. Would have liked to seen the difference, if there would be any I wonder?
Ryobi has a similar one that detect voltage accurately it will tell you which way it is and center you in it only draw back is u need two hands to operate it
I own both of these tools, and must always check the batteries for full power. That means showing 10 volts on a fresh 9 volt battery. performance improves greatly on AC scan. Thanks.
Franklin stud doesn’t last long I went through 2 already...it’s the best for wood stud finder...I usually use spury adjustable none contact voltage tester to look for live wire it’s very sensitive it can even detect wire 3 to 6 inches away or behind wall...
Can you test the Franklin M210 too? It has the same number of sensors (13) still, but has more LEDs (21 vs 13), to get a better picture of where the studs are.
Very good content. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻. Great comparison between products. So many products out there claiming to be the best, but in reality at the end it comes down to knowledge and judgement. Great material. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻.
I think you have to have common sense as well with these tools their pretty simple. This was a great video for me, I want to build my own shelves for my nail studio this video has helped me a lot
Then I guess you've never seen 1" shaftwall liner. Two layers of 1/2" also equals one inch. One layer of 5/8" and one layer of 3/8" also equals one inch. Two layers of 5/8" (as you will find on a 2-hour rated drywall assembly) equals 1-1/4".
place the stud finder on the surface. press the button and hold it still and wait for the beep. when the beep sounds off, then move the stud finder. you move it too quickly in most cases.
It looks like you didn't read the Zircon manual. You move too fast and don't stop right away when reading changes. You don't move back and forth. What I see is operator's error, not the tool
How do you find the exact middle? I’d your going from right to left are you marking the middle by stopping right when the right light goes off? I’m guessing the exact edges would be off by a little, how do you know true middle?
Your statement is very true for most stud finders and should be adhered to, But the Franklin model "ProSensor Professional T13 Stud Finder does allows you to start directly over the stud, the deference is this Franklin model has Auto-Scan feature built-in which eliminates the need to avoid the stud, the other nice feature about this unit is you do not have to calibrate just press, hold and begin your scan, for me this model is hard to beat. Cost: about $60.00
Hmm 😒 with this style you can we get that close to the corners. Or maybe the way end LEDS will light up as soon as it reads the corner studs?? I don't know, can it ? The corner stud finding needs to be demonstrated using this device. Thanks. We need a stud finder that will show PVC pipe, cables, wires, copper pipe, steel, iron and aluminium pipes, everything 😉
I'm pretty sure may of the false readings were because you were turning them on over open air at the edges. Turn it in in the middle, preferably away from a stud.
Hi! Great Video! You convinced to move my Amazon *Franklin* *Stud* *Finder* from my _Shopping List_ and proceed to *Checkout!* Looks like my hyped dream machine *Walabot* DIY Plus is still two or three versions from being durable, stable, and accurate (it should be able to see *Roaches* in the walls intead of *Mice* by then). Who rmembers #RooseveltFranklin from Sesame Street?
Not the best of test. I would have prefer you stopped on all the studs to see if franklin stud finder would center all of them properly. You did it with 1st one and kept rolling over all the other studs with the franklin stud finder. The Zircon you didn't even let it calibrate before moving it. You moved it every time before it was done calibrating.
it is not designed to detect AC, so if it had detected it it would have been a false readout, meaning it IS accurate for not detecting something it was not designed to detect, hope that helps...
Finally a true, unbiased, detailed, and fair test. This is awesome bro thanks. With how good you were talking about the Zircon I assumed you were going to be ignoring its faults and highlighting it’s good features but it’s clear you were being objective. I’ve definitely subbed after this video
Thank you so much! I’m glad I could bring value and help to your decision 🙏🏽😊thank you for the support as well! Means a lot!
Check out the ryobi it detect voltage tells you which way to go mid centers on it only draw back is you need two hands to operate it
He just ignores faults of the Franklin though: ua-cam.com/users/clipUgkx19taQ_qP8aIhFGOrp09KTCsmNMC3pavU?si=MDq-BpKv8MlbZ8y2

The right and best way to test these sensors. With a hands on and see through wall for an accurate demo. Great job !!! I appreciate the insight.
Much love! Thank you a much for the amazing comment! 🙏🏽😊👍🏽
Glad i came across this video... I am an architect student and this will come in handy on projects and as built drawings and just to have in my toolbox for any home renovations.. will def be going with the Franklin finder !
I’m glad I could be of help! I wish you well on your studies! Much respect to architects! 🙏🏽😊

Good catch! Thank you ! 🙏🏽😊
Very professional presentation. Truly what an instructional UA-cam video should be. Thank you for your preparation.
I bought that Franklin at your recommendation and love it! Thank you so much.
I’m glad you like it Meg! It’s definitely my favorite stud Finder by far!
I could *not* find the plaster ceiling studs in my garage, using *3* different Zircon testers. I got the Franklin 710+ (yours here) & on the first try bam! SOOOO.. MARK LEFT, MARK TO THE RIGHT, MOVE SOME MORE, find center.. ok. As opposed to this and find it in three lights. Sure! I love more complicated.
Thank you sir for the video.

Facts bro me too
The Franklin is the best have had one for many years. You push the button and go detects studs with ease
I’ve never had a good experience with this particular Zircon model
The first pick up edges only the second one is the best
Thanks for your great video, I'm trying to mount my TV on the wall and used a ac finder to inspect the live wire, there are live wire everywhere on the wall 🤯 I don't know how to drill wall safely, I have tasted the multi sensor other place and worked well.... Gotta do the dad joke in reference to a stud finder
Excellent review! My Zircon’s are unreliable; going to Franklin 710+.
Thank you for the detailed analysis of both stud finders. I just purchased the Franklin from amazon. It arrived today and was looking for the correct to use. Glad I made a good choice.
Thank you 🙏🏽! I think it’s amazing out of all the stuff finders!
Very impressive wall mock up. Good video.
Thank you so much! 🙏🏽😊
This is how a video should be made.
Thank you so much! 🙏🏽

You do a great job! Your info has been very helpful 👍🏻
Thanks for your video man! Really well explained!👍
Thank you 🙏🏽!
Thankyou for explaining
Nice video, I like the wall.
Great demonstration!!!!!!
Thank you so much! 🙏🏽😊
Been a fan of your channel. Thanks for the detailed experiments

Hi. Which battery tester do you use?
I have a Fluke T5 1000 multi meter. Craftsman multi meters will work just fine and much cheaper. Many uses around the house too.@@AndreaCuchetto
The metal setting on the Zircon is for Metal studs.
Thank you for that info! 🙏🏽😊👍🏽
Franklin stud doesn’t last long I went through 2 already...it’s the best for wood stud finder...I usually use spury adjustable none contact voltage tester to look for live wire it’s very sensitive it can even detect wire 3 to 6 inches away or behind wall...
I want to see do a test with drywall is painted.

Franklin does make a stud sensor that also detects voltage, this model only studs
Thank you for that! 👍🏽😊
Great Job ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Bet that find stud in chinese raundry! Good tess!
Have to keep pressing the button to check from either left, right or button?
Never seen 1 inch thick drywall. So the Franklin works great
Then I guess you've never seen 1" shaftwall liner. Two layers of 1/2" also equals one inch. One layer of 5/8" and one layer of 3/8" also equals one inch. Two layers of 5/8" (as you will find on a 2-hour rated drywall assembly) equals 1-1/4".

Awesome I'm getting one
nice!!! i got the zircon brand too.. similar to yours but it doesnt have a separate selection on ac and metal,.
Best stud finder: Franklin Sensors FS710PRO Stud Finder
I stop using my zircon after so many false readings when I first started hanging my tvs. Now I use my $10 magnetic stud finder
Wish you had installed some metal studs cause that's what we have!
great video
Thank you!
Why is your live cable yellow?
place the stud finder on the surface. press the button and hold it still and wait for the beep. when the beep sounds off, then move the stud finder. you move it too quickly in most cases.

good video,thanks bro
Thank you 🙏🏽
Have you tried a pipe rightup against a stud? What would scan show?
Work with PEX??
Is the Franklin sensor good at picking up studs behind tiles?
You cant start off directly over a stud and expect it to detect changes without problems.
Frankiln now makes the M210 which can detect metal and live wires. Also has a bubble level in it.
Franklin m150 does the same
Not enough voltage in your wire to show the power?
I'm pretty sure may of the false readings were because you were turning them on over open air at the edges. Turn it in in the middle, preferably away from a stud.
🙏🏽😊
Did you see that they just recently came out with a smaller cheaper version? It only has 7 sensors, half the size and half the cost.
I dont think you ever said what model franklin, they make many.
The Franklin studfinder will not lasts!!! Just got rid of my second one. The damn tactile switch wears out in them real quick
Your drywall is not painted. That affects the test big time.
I bought a Zircon and is the biggest trash ever bought. Tomorrow will return it to the store. I will swap to the Franklin
The Franklin was definitely a game changer for me. You’ll love it!
Lol! Thank you for watching! 🙏🏽😊
Best way to find objects in a wall is with a 12D. 👞
I threw my zircons in the trash after getting the Franklin.
Franklin is straight forward and easy to use! 👍🏽😊
real wall is stuffed with insulation which is the 80% of the battle when fishing cables.
A bit pricey for a one time use for me, $74.99
He said it DID NOT detect the live wire. It's SUPPOSED to indicate live wire!!!
Kaso walang ganyan na brand dito sa amin
Sorry Po, pero meron type na similar po, should work the same po 🙏🏽😊
🤔I got false readings also
You find a stud behind my home. Thats just me walking the dogs also studs.
oh noo, you didn't say "buh-inn" for button, did you? wtf
Why is it awesome not detecting livewire? FML
It only detects studs. If it detects live wire you could misinterpret it for a stud and get shocked, the zircon does detect voltage
it is not designed to detect AC, so if it had detected it it would have been a false readout, meaning it IS accurate for not detecting something it was not designed to detect, hope that helps...
You need to stop at the stud so we can see where the LED's are at. you're going to fast
He just an inexperience Diyer.
Zircon are junk they are not accurate i bought all of them
How have you found the best stud finder when neither work properly? Click bait or what
Lol one thing you can learn is how not to use a stud finder.
