Nice one Mel glad you're happy with it. But if others want to try the ball valve, cheaper ball valves are available, about £28 and only use power to open and close the valve.
Hey Mell, While I have been laid up with another heart issue I have been watching a few (lots) of your older videos and, well, I have an idea for a Waffle On A Wednesday, Do one on all your cap's and beanie's, you must own 20+,
Mel great to see you looking well - I don't believe the duvet got wet from the sink it was you chewing it in the night dreaming it was a huge marshmallow 🤦♂️🤣🤣🤣 best wishes Clay.
Hope all is well Mel. I bought a jackery explorer 500w and Iam very happy with it. As I live in Ireland I got it from amazon.de for EU buyers. Enjoy'n your vids. Vanlife is still on hold here sadly still in lockdown.
Hi Mel just getting some inspiration from yourselves we have just bought a Ford transit minibus 17 seater which we pick up next week and we will be converting it to a campervan we are having a U-shaped lounge and drop-down bed from the ceiling as we will be taking it across to America for a year
Lol nice video. I actually made something like this months ago but didn’t make a video about it yet. Am still uploading other videos I made lol. Nice work.
@@BigVanSmallWorld lol it would be a while because am still uploading videos from last year lol. But I kinda showed the current van state in my latest video because when I postage video about my Lpg ( I deleted that one because it was filmed last year also, people where so nasty and it had almost 1K views in less than 24hours because people just wanted to comment bad things about it, so I deleted it) which shows how my gas pipes are now and even had Lpg engineer come and inspect it.
Mel buy one of those collapsable bowls...bloody amazing...I have the collapsable bucket...island of dreams...used it for so many things...dont know how i lived without it...Id have the collapsable bowl but my sink is domestic size
When I had my last van process I used for emptying the grey tank was actually quite simple, I have to open a valve on the outside manually however I would then switch on an air compressor normally used for car tyres, and that would start to pressurize the tank pushing out all of the contents. The only downside was a need to have a valve to stop the pressure from coming back up to the sink.
Yes you should wire the switch to the dash as I have in my van. It empties direct underneath not out to the side so i just find a convenient dump drain drive over it and push the button. Then a true 3/4" bore valve opens and dumps 65L of shower and dish water in a couple of minutes... No pump required. Note both my shower and sink have traps and filters to catch any bits :)
That manual valve sounds ridiculously expensive for the UK, normally I'm the one paying the silly money for stuff here. I bought my whole waste water system for under GBP50, including 24L tank, pipe, manual valve and camlock fittings with cap. These are the requirements for Self Containment certification here in New Zealand which you need if you want to go to many places including DOC campsites ( Dept of Conservation ) or Freedom camp. Having the SC Certification also means we can park up at the side of the circuit at the motor racing too, so I can just open the slider or rear doors and watch with tea on tap! 😁🇳🇿🚐🏎😎
Interesting use of the colander to catch any “debris” and stop it going down the waste drain, but..... how do you then wash/rinse the colander to stop it going stinky?
Every few weeks i take the shower trap off and clean it then fill my sink and grey tank with a dishwasher cube and warm water and give everything a good flush. Also for fresh water tanks go to the swimming pool supplies and buy 1KG pool shock chlorine. Put a 1/2 flat teaspoon of the white granules will treat 60-100L of water and you can drink it. Its how off grid rain water collectors treat their tanks and stop them turning horrid. Just never use toilet bleach.
Hi Mel love your channel 👍😀 I did follow you and did the exact same system that you have done. Same water pump and solenoid ,but I have a problem with the water pump I guess. When I press the switch I hear the pump making noise but water does not flow even though the waste water is nearly full. So I took of the pump to test it with 1.5 litre bottle of water only and still did not work , the pump is rolling making noise but no water coming out .. Question this water pump suppose to suck the water though the Inlet and let it go trough the Outlet right? Even when the pump is above the bottle should suck the water out or I'm mistaking? But it doesn't is it a faulty pump or is something else...? Please if you can help me out on that would be awesome because I'm really confused haha 😀😅
I think the pump needs to be below the water line it won’t suck air so it’s not self priming so try lowering your pump below water line it’s a submersible pump so definitely not self primer 👍
£15 at best for a proper motorhome tap, quarter of a turn and let it drain while your driving, good video but unnecessary complicated, the more complicated the more chance of problems. But keep up the good work 👍
Hi Mel. Glad your pump solenoid combo worked. Will the pump automatically stop when the tank has emptied, otherwise the pump will run dry and burn up. Great video.
Hi Mel I’m thinking of doing something similar to this. Would I be right in thinking that your pump needs to be lower? Otherwise once the water level is lower than the pump it won’t be able to pump out the water? & you will always have around half a tank of water you can’t pump out. Due to the pump being the submersible type. I maybe wrong it’s just a thought 👍 keep on inspiring pal
Thank you buddy I think once the pump is primed it will continue to suck the water out as long as they’re are no leaks and when I tried it out it definitely emptied the water tank I’m really pleased with it so far 👍😊👍
@@BigVanSmallWorld cool cheers for replying. I’m hopefully going to get mine done at the weekend so fingers crossed mine will also be a success 😁love your camper by the way you’ve done a cracking job👍
I use the same pump on my sink, but you've installed it above your drain port which itself is far too high above the bottom of the tank. You won't be able to dump more than about half the water in the tank as it is.
Thank you for taking the time to comment the pump works great and sucks all the water out rite until this level with the drain outlet so for me that’s perfect 👌
@@BigVanSmallWorld Please help me to understand. If you use an environmentally safe soap wouldn't the contents of the pan be perfectly fine for plants in the field?

Fair play Mel. Knew you'd get it sorted.

With a convenient inspection hole in the bottom of the tank, you'd easily get a cheap marine bilge pump in there.
That’s a brilliant idea why didn’t I think of that 👍🤣😂👍

@@BigVanSmallWorld one great advantage to my system was that food debris could be blasted out through the pipe rather than blocking it.

Do you need to protect the pump from road muck under van..?
No it’s a submissive bump so should be ok 👍 🤞
Sorry I missed it I'm watching it now.
No worries buddy
'Great engineering. :)

A Valterra 1.5 Inch slide valve is only £16, just pull the handle, you can even extend the handle and pull it from inside the van
Do you think unistrut for a bed frame would be better than wood?

No just use my eyes 👀 👍😅👍
Should have the switch accessible from the drivers seat then you could give any tail gaiters a shower.😁
Haha brilliant idea thank you 😂👍
You just need that switch next to the steering wheel say no more.
I'd suggest a simple non return valve in place of the solenoid, requires no power.
I look forward to seeing your video 👍

Does water flow through the pump when it's switched off? I was just wondering if the solenoid is actually still needed.
Yes it would flow under pressure especially when the tank is full

Tune in next week where Mel removes all solids from the grey water by turning a Liquidiser into a waste disposal unit under the sink. 😂😂💙♥️💙♥️
Ohh that’s a great idea 👍🤣👍
That pump wiil get blocked when waste that floats go down sink
I’ll make sure it don’t 😅
...why is it a grey water tank when most of them are usually black or white ❓Mel u can get a sink strainer that goes over the drain outlet
It’s called grey water tank because it’s where sink and shower water collected black water is pee n poop
When you are out in the country, why don't you simply toss the water in your washing-up bowl out the door rather than putting it down the sink?
That’s not very nice 🤣👍
@@BigVanSmallWorld Please help me to understand. If you use an environmentally safe soap wouldn't the contents of the pan be perfectly fine for plants in the field?

Just don't dump it all over Bob's drive lol BTW if I remember right don't you have a urinal plumbed into that drainage system?
Yep 👍
