@@Marta_Fanai exactly! If there was 30% less dialog, all people that want to use their brain would say the story was too flat or something. There is also no way it would score higher if there was less dialog
@@seb9940 after writing the comment, I watched it again for the 5th time. Enjoyed it like the first time. Although im not much into science theory. I find theory of relativity mind fucking. Thats why i enjoyed it very much.
I totally agree. Nolan doesn't explain too much, he explain only the things he have to... there's a lot of unexplained things in Interstellar and a lot of hard-understandable scientific things that Nolan cut off (the method used to discover the wormhole using LIGO for example. He cut off the red shift and doppler effect from Gargantua etc...). But some things need to be explained, the spheric wormhole need to be explained, no one imagine a spheric wormhole, so he have to explain to us that "no, a wormhole is not a hole, is a sphere", the tesseract need to be explained, the human evolution in a 5-dimensional specie need to be explained etc... And all of this explainaition are well placed in the script, are interactions between characters, for this reason the main character is an ingeneer, because he don't understand anything of real science, so the real scientists have to explain to him. They could have choosen a geologist, but he would never understand even the explaination, but only licked his rocks (*sarcasm*). Intestellar is not a sci-fi movie, Interstellar is a scientific/speculative movie, the scientific things in the movie are part of the narration. The science showed in the movie is a lot of far than common people knowledge (some things is understandable in total only to a very little group of super physicists), some little explaination is needed. It's like the script of Big Short, when, in some points, the narration is stopped to explain some important financial things, whithout those explainations, the movie is totally incomprehensible. But, there is a problem, it's a Nolan (both Nolan, I think) defect, they aren't so good in writing dialogues. In all his filmography the only interesting dialogues are the Joker's dialogues in TDK.
3:56 There is a chance "Interstellar" would be higher on this list if it simply had 30% less dialogue. as if we all had degrees in "Space science or whatever"

@@GexaConcepts Let me clarify. It's a visual masterpiece, but the writing isn't nearly good enough to be called a masterpiece imo. Nolan has made true masterpieces, but I don't think Interstellar is one of them
@@GexaConcepts No, not really. And writing off what I said as "not everyone gets it" is extremely pretentious. I don't think the writing is bad, but saying that it's a masterpiece because of that is just completely ignorant. People, at this point, are well-aware of the infamous "love transcends space and time" sequence which is one of the worst pieces of dialogue I've ever seen in a Nolan movie. And that's not even the only example of it. Yes, the film is emotional and powerful, but it isn't a masterpiece. But hey, to each and their own. I understand why people love this film. I love this film, but I won't conform my beliefs of the film just because everyone else has a certain opinion. I have a higher standard for what I consider a masterpiece in storytelling, and Interstellar is miles below that standard

@Mansoor Shameel my top 5 would be sometime along the lines of Kubrick, Scorsese, Hitchcock, tarkovsky, David Fincher. Nolan has been pretty good at making main stream cool blockbusters that's it, tenet was terrible tho
All of his movies is amazing. I can't choose it, every Nolan's movies always make a different story and I always waiting Nolan next movies. His collaboration with Hans Zimmer also amazing. Hope Tenet will bring amazing experiences again.
@@adveniasabiana3803 Zimmer couldn't do Christopher Nolan's "Tenet" because he's working on the epic "Dune" adaptation for director Denis Villeneuve (Blade Runner 2049). I like Luwig Goransson, but if I were Nolan and couldn't get Zimmer, I would have tried for Clint Mansell (The Fountain, Moon, Noah, Requiem For A Dream).
I think it is underrated, too. It is an epic and dramatic conclusion to two of his most famous works. They had the daunting and unenviable task of picking back up from the legendary Dark Knight. Once again, he makes the bold decision to remove the cape and cowl for a large portion of the film and force us to watch Gotham descending into madness and going on this spiritual journey with Bruce, which leads him and us full circle back to Begins with the “why do we fall” moment. It’s got complex social and political themes while also being a personal story about getting back up again and I think it’s a real shame people just dismiss it as being not as good as TDK. And if we’re talking on a purely technical perspective, you’ve got one of his biggest set pieces in the plane hijacking, the gigantic fight scene full of extras that aren’t CGI or anything, it brings even more light to the movie, making the trilogy a nice work of visual storytelling with Gotham literally getting brighter and more hopeful despite everything Gothamites have suffered through. Cast is top notch as always as is the score. That ending shot with Blake rising up as the dark knight. Good stuff.

I’d have to say that Dunkirk tops my list, there’s just something so captivating about the way tension is built throughout the whole movie that resonates with me. Great video as always!
It's hard to ranked Nolan films (cause they're all great & aspiring), but my top 3 would be The Dark Knight, The Prestige, & Inception. Inception might have lots of plot holes, but no other films have impact me this much. His vision make me feel the magic of films and truly inspired to work in the business!
This list is very subjective (as I've based it on how many times I rewatched each one of them), but The Dark Knight is a Nolan film with the most iconic scenes & quotes. The power struggle between The Joker & Batman is amazing (just like in The Prestige), but one of them is a hero who try with all his will not to break his own rule and become what he's fighting against. To me that's inspiring.
@@StudioBinder I think most people like it because of Ledger's phenomenal performance and obviously the philosphies and symbolism brought into the film with mentions of morality and the duality between order and chaos being implemented into the script. But as per me I really love *Dunkrik* . Because the story is not about just one person but a whole situation. No one is important but still every single man serve the urge of the story. Cross cutting form ground to the sea to the sky, and continuing this method in the whole film sets a rhythm. And the colours, ohh, just mind blowing. I think this is one of the best film with richest colour grading, I just love this color grading. Suspense of the story lineup is also great.
@@StudioBinder There's no conflict about the story. "The prestige" by far have the best story and same old Nolan style, non linear story telling with lots of suspense and flash back and flash forward back and forth. No doubt it's a great story. But I really don't like the color grading at all, because it's too normal nothing to strike my mind or set an example. The only shot I liked in the whole film is funeral of Julie. And by the way there is a thing in literature, or a concept that you start a piece with subjecting one man or a one particular person but as you grow in the story you end it up with infinity, an open ending which leaves space for viewers to think. And that's a great piece. But at the end of the prestige Nolan explains too much, explaining everything isn't required at all. In that way you are not providing the opportunity to the audience to rethink about your story and discovering the ends themselves. And if you don't do that the story doesn't last in their mind for a long time, it will fade away. Because we always remember what we have done actively. (Before the story ended I had already figured out that Robert has been killing his own clones)

It's masterful filmmaking, starting with cinematography and going into amazing score and performances) 3. Memento 9/10 (a true puzzle of a movie with a fantastic and original idea on how to tell a story. It's amazing how it all fits at the end) 4. The Dark Knight Rises 9/10 (there aren't any serious plot holes in the film contrary to popular believe, and it has some of the best cinematography in Nolan films and its the most effective emotionally film in his career with Bale being the best he has been in the role and Bane being a more than solid substitute for Joker. Great Hollywood epic and romance disguised as a superhero movie) 5. The Prestige 9/10 (tremendous parallel between filmmaking and illusion) 6. Batman Begins 9/10 (the best origin story ever) 7. Inception 8/10 (I'll agree with too much exposition, unfortunately basically every dialogue in the film is exposition, great meta commentary on filmmaking and his most spectacular sequences) 8. Insomnia 7/10 (it's a solid thriller but never stands out from its competition... the characters are not as interesting) 9. Dunkirk 6/10 (technically it's good and probably Nolan's most unorthodox movie but the action and not character driven storyline becomes boring really shortly and even though it's Nolan's shortest film, it feels like the longest. Emotionally it's completely void and completely not suspenseful becomes of a lack of attachment to anyone. Interesting idea but a failed attempt) 10. Following 6/10 (technically its rubbish but the story holds up)
Hard disagree for Interstellar. Yes, I agree that the exposition was mostly necessary, but there are numerous sequences where the dialogue is just sloppily put together. And the sad part is that it happens more times than not. Inception is a better example of good exposition. It's only used when needed and always has an internal function for being there. Apart from that, the dialogue is overall a lot better, and while the film has issues it's still great. My own personal ranking: 1. The Prestige (10/10) 2. Dunkirk (10/10) 3. Best list possible.
If interstellar had 30 percent less dialogues then no one would be able to understand it
Some things are just not meant to be understood. I would have enjoyed the movie still. But I respect your opinion
Interstellar is the one of the very best masterpiece . Some people just wants action action action they dont wanna use their brain.
Interstellar is and always will be my all time favourite film, it’s too incredible to put into words
3:56 There is a chance "Interstellar" would be higher on this list if it simply had 30% less dialogue.
as if we all had degrees in "Space science or whatever"
If it had less dialogue...then they would have ranked it lower by saying that director didn't explained many things in the movie
🤣🤣🤣🤣
I mean my only complaint was that it was a little too long but the story, emotions, can't get enough of it
I think if Interstellar had better dialogue, it could possibly be in the top 3. But it's the dialogue and writing that really drags it down for me

@@dannert I agree. It had some plot holes and some of the fight scenes were poorly choreographed. But overall I thought it was pretty great
It's overrated.
Good stuff.

Why do you like The Dark Knight over The Prestige?
The color grading, cinematography, suspense, etc. was next level in Dunkirk. But story-wise, how do you think Dunkirk compares to The Prestige?

Honsetly it was very tough to choose my favorite Nolan movie. The man hasn't made one bad movie yet and it seems he keeps getting better with what he does next.
Inception and Interstellar are both amazing movies. Both are the best Sci-Fi movies of the century in my opinion. But I go with Interstellar because it's Nolan's most ambitious project to date in my opinion. Secondly the emotional connect between father and daughter feels so real, its gripping, from start to finish, it always brings tears in my eyes and the overall message in the movie needs to be taken seriously. I just love the science, acting, cinematography and ofcourse Nolan's directing. It's all so amazing. And it's also Nolan's most personal film as well.
You definitely can't go wrong with a list like this. How excited are you about his next film 'Tenet'?
@@StudioBinder I am super excited! what I've heard about the movie's concept so far is very intriguing. It's again going to be epic, a large scale action movie with a message that will resonate with us humans, like his previous movies. Nolan will once again make us all think. It's an original film and really can't wait for more news. I keep checking Google if there's any update about the movie 😂 I'm a pure Nolan fan boy 😊
1. The Dark Knight 10/10 (it's a perfect crime movie with complex human interactions and philosophies at stake, great blocking, staging in small scenes as well as the action sequences, phenomenal ending, best performance in Nolan's movies by Heath Ledger)
2. Interstellar 10/10 (the dialogue to explain these complex ideas was necessary, as evident by people still not getting some of the core ideas behind the film. It's masterful filmmaking, starting with cinematography and going into amazing score and performances)
3. Memento 9/10 (a true puzzle of a movie with a fantastic and original idea on how to tell a story. It's amazing how it all fits at the end)
4. Great Hollywood epic and romance disguised as a superhero movie)
5. The Prestige 9/10 (tremendous parallel between filmmaking and illusion)
6. Batman Begins 9/10 (the best origin story ever)
7. Inception 8/10 (I'll agree with too much exposition, unfortunately basically every dialogue in the film is exposition, great meta commentary on filmmaking and his most spectacular sequences)
8. Insomnia 7/10 (it's a solid thriller but never stands out from its competition... the characters are not as interesting)
9. Interesting idea but a failed attempt)
10. Following 6/10 (technically its rubbish but the story holds up)
Great ranking!

The Prestige is my favourite film of all time. Glad to see it getting the recognition it deserves.
For real! :)
Interstellar at #8 and Inception at #7 is something else...
Haven't watched the video yet but The Prestige is Nolan's most intricately crafted film and the most complex non-linear film that exists.
Mulholland drive
What about memento ?
Preach!
No
The most complex non-linear film that exists. Lmao good one
1-Interestellar
2-Dunkirk
3- Inception

Why did you rank Interstellar above The Prestige?
@@StudioBinder Love TARS, Love.
@@StudioBinder The plot was amazing and its a diferent type of film from Nolan. All he's films are very good but only when i watched interestellar, i got choked with the film. Absolutely amazing

I was disappointed with the ranks of Interstellar and Inception, but then I just realized Prestige is on the top 😄 btw its my most favorite movie
I agree almost on everything, but Interstellar at the 8th place can't be seen. Anyway I'd like to more top 10 like this, maybe the next about Tarantino or Scorsese
Tarantino only has 9 films though XD. And one isn't quite yet in theaters.

2. The Dark Knight Rises
1. Memento
2 and 3 are among my top 10 favorite movies. The Dark Knight Rises is an incredible epic that just so has Batman, with many timeless themes and a bunch of great characters. Most of the alleged plot holes and nitpicks (from the vocal minority that didn't like it) are actually explainable. Aside from that, I stand for that it's truly one of Nolan's best.
@@h.b.smith_writer I can't believe I forgot to reply here.
I haven't seen the Following, so I can't comment that.
Placements I heavily agree with:
I agree with you that Tenet is not among the greatest Nolan films. It may be the most ambitious yet, but not the greatest.
I agree that Insomnia isn't among his greatest work, but is still really good.
Placements I disagree with, but can still understand:
I'm glad we also agree that Memento is a great film and among Nolan's best. I dont think it's THE best, though.
I personally appreciate the Prestige more than you, but three spots isn't that much of a dramatic difference anyway.
The Dark Knight is my favourite Nolan film and I apparently love it more than you do. But we still do agree it's among Nolan's best, so that's great. Two spots is really not a big difference.
I can also get behind your Batman Begins placement. I put it a couple of spots lower, but I do agree it should be out of the top three.
Placements I really disagree with:
I love Interstellar, but I believe it's far from Nolan's best. You have put it somewhat higher than I did, but what I strongly disagree with is that it's better than Inception. I believe Inception is the best high budget original Nolan film.
Your Dunkirk placement was kind of shocking to me. I do think it's too low, but what surprised me the most was BB and TDKR being above it. I believe Dunkirk is one of four essential and defining Nolan films.
Almost the biggest disagreement comes with Inception, another movie I believe is underrated on your list. I just love it and it may just be the definitive and most significant Nolan film.
Wtf placement:
The biggest disagreement comes with TDKR. I believe it's one of the least good Nolan films. Above TDK?!
Anyway, good chat. I respect your opinion.

Came out of the Video, When Inception was listed at 7th position 😞😞
Why do you think Inception should have ranked higher?
@@StudioBinder Best concept Nolan presented till date, top notch cinematography among all Nolan films, chilling action moments, beautiful composing.
@@StudioBinder I think the idea of ,,exploring'' dreams and killing the own wife...., is fenomenal, its something you have never seen before ( maybe Matrix but still different)
@@StudioBinder Inception like the plot is all about the idea...I want to see some other filmmaker come with such an idea for a movie

1. Prestige- A dark script, strong subtext(screenplay) and perfectly underplayed characters and dialogues(CnD)
2. Memento -Best screenplay ever.
3. Dark Knight -A very strong script with amazing CnD. Best DC movie ever. (Logan for Marvel :P)
4. Inception-Refreshing Story(Themewise) with a well balanced cinematography. Could have done more in the final scenes .
5. Dunkirk -Perfect blend of cinematography and soundtrack
6. Interstellar - Great take on time travel(cinematography and science), but lacked depth. Couldn't connect much.
7. Batman Begins- Didn't like the climax scenes
8.Dark Knight Rises- Felt out of place.
9.Insomnia

The best thing about this channel: usually only 1utube ad. It's also nice as it entertains until the last second
Interstellar is one of my favourite all time films, and top sci fi for sure. But as much as I loved it, I agree that The Prestige is a better film. The emotional ending of Interstellar isn't enough for me to put it above Prestige. As soon as I saw the Prestige I downloaded the ebook and read it in two days avoiding everything around me. It contains even more material than the film. It worked on so many levels and left me with wanting more. Interstellar was like a great meal, satisfying, indeed. But Prestige is a medley of perfection, and the story remained tight woven around a couple of characters, unlike Interstellar that is a massive three act construction with less interesting issues connecting them.
Finally a unique ranking. My list

I’ve always saw inception as what it was on the surface. Dom is given a job to incept someone’s mind, and make them have an original thought; he has to recruit a team. Then years later I went back, and realized the job was actually them incepting Dom. The job was to trick Dom to returning to reality. And the people who he “recruited” were all apart of the plan. They were all hired by Dom’s dad.
