I work at Cineworld and it's the strangest thing watching your comfort youtuber give the same Unlimited selling points chat that I give customers daily. Great video btw!! I'm most excited for the Holdovers, which I'm going to need to venture out to go and watch because only certain Cineworlds are showing it :c
How you reacted to the first frame of The Holdovers was exactly how I felt. I started crying. The way it was filmed was so gorgeous and nostalgic for me. Such a fantastic movie! I'm pumped for Furiosa for the simple reason of Chris Hemsworth getting to go all in on using his natural accent.
"Given that the first day of this year was a Monday, how are we supposed to function?" Thank you! I don't know why (and maybe it was just me) but the fact that NYE was on a SUNDAY fucked me up something ROTTEN
As someone who has no clue what movies are coming out this year, this was very welcome to me 🤗 I also felt you honestly spent the perfect amount of time on introducing the movies and your thoughts on them!
Thoroughly enjoyed this! :D Also reminds me of going to the cinema with my pal recently (who also watches your UA-cam) and you were in an advert! We shreiked! 😂
loved this video, it feels like a little movie club on this corner of the internet. i have an unlimited card too and it's genuinely one of the best purchases I've ever made I love it so much. will definitely be keeping my eye out for future movie recs from you!!
Thank you for this. This video was just what I needed as my end-of-january depression was starting to get to me. Nothing better than being reminded of the excitement of a good movie, and seeing it for the first time. Simply lovely. I'm sending all my love from Argentina❤ I hope I can guard this warm feeling as I begin my last year of university for my film degree.
I’m here for this movie content, Dan! I’ve recently got into going to the cinema again and this video was exactly what I needed. You’re so comforting to watch. Sending all the love ❤
I can say to you Letterboxd is the most fun I've ever had reading film reviews! There's always at least one that has me rolling 🤣 it cannot be expressed how sad I am that none of NZ's Cinemas have any form of unlimited membership... honestly I would snap it right up! In fact, in considering moving to the UK, it was one of the first things I looked into 😅 fab video Dan, keep it up xx
Weirdly the three movies I'm looking forward too most at the moment are all in releasing in February lol (at least here in the US), though I do have a whole list for the year and have added some from this video in as well. Mine are (also in release order): -Lisa Frankenstein - February 9 -Madame Web - February 14 -Drive-Away Dolls - February 23
I adore these videos Dan. Coming over here from WT was one of my better UA-cam choices. I’m very intrigued about Argylle. The book coming out a month before the movie has definitely gotten my interest.
with your thoughts on wicked and your thoughts on the last of us last year, i'd love to see you do a video on adaptation and when it's worked/when it hasn't! stuff like stage to screen and the challenges and how they present themselves. love the new era dan x
I had no idea there was a gladiator 2 in the works. I loved Gladiator so much, I had it on DVD (or maybe VHS) and watched it over and over. How exciting!
"We the elderly" I laughed out loud. Every year I have to scroll further and further down to find the year I was born in registration forms. The dread...
I loved this video. I used to keep so upto date with what was in production and coming out and now I literally have no idea. I has made me want to gey back into reading about film and going to see films in the cinema again and to get excited for what is coming out rather than just stumbling upon whatever is featured on my streaming services.
I always look forward to hearing you talk about movies. I am SO excited for The Holdovers - I've been looking forward to it for LITERAL MONTHS and I'm seeing it tomorrow evening at my lovely local, independent cinema. I saw Poor Things there a couple of days ago and??? adored it??? Honestly wasn't expecting to fall in love with it so much but oh my god, it's such a kind, legitimately empowering film about body autonomy and living life without shame. Can't recommend it enough for people (though they should know that it's probably not one to see with your parents...) LASTLY, because you didn't mention it, my most anticipated for this year is MICKEY 17, which is Bong Joon-ho's newest venture with Robert Pattinson and it's a sci-fi and it's probably gonna be weird as hell and it sounds perfect. God I love movies.
I'm hoping that the movie "Uproar" comes to the UK, my local filmhouse is also hoping to show it. Its an NZ film with a hard hitting message through a medium of comedian, I know I'll be laughing through tears and then booking thr next available ticket! Another I'm looking forward to is "Love Lies Bleeding", I've recently been watching more thrillers but I've found I'm enjoying queer thrillers in particular, the trailer for this had my mouth dropped and eyes wide open! So excited!
Holdovers looks good. Dune 2? Yeah. I'm gonna give Wicked a go as well. In the meantime I've got 49 other movies which were all showing at the local cinema in 1947 to watch. Unfortunately that cinema is now a dominoes and a lidl, so I'm watching them on my laptop.
Ayeee new Dan Layton video!!! Yes please! You have to go and see The Beekeeper it’s just Jason Statham being a straight up badass mercenary type killer doing everything you’d like to see Jason Statham doing.
I'm going to be spending so much time at Cineworld this year using my Unlimited card because there's just so many good looking films coming out! I'm especially excited for Dune Part Two as I've got a trip to Belfast planned for it so I can watch it on the massive IMAX with Laser there as my local (Dublin) isn't that big and has a very old projector which, while it still looks great, is nothing compared to Belfast. I got to see Everything Everywhere All At Once on the IMAX there and it was the best movie watching experience I've ever had. I'm still yet to visit Leicester Square though so my mind will probably be blown even more when I inevitably do
Don't worry Dan, You weren't the only one who didn't love Joker. I think I saw it described best as Taxi Driver for Beginners. Joaquin Phoenix acted the hell out of it, but it always felt it was less than the sum of its parts. Again, as you say, maybe its a me problem.
on the back of the mean girls the musical film adaptation, wicked had better be faithful to the musical arrangement or at least very purposeful with any changes lol
Fury Road was unbelievably good but in large part due to amazing practical effects and stunts; the amount of CGI in the Furiosa trailer makes me nervous 😣
Thank you for consistently campaigning about the joy of the cinematic experience - I genuinely would go to the cinema every night if I could! And I did when I lived near a Cineworld (I actually had an unlimited card #notad) but now I live near an Odeon which is both way too expensive and also had a rat infestation recently, so 🥲

“We as elderly people”. Same. Same Dan. Same.

I just adore every moment of it. One I’ll watch for years and years
I got to watch it at the start of the Christmas season and it was just perfect. Can’t wait to buy the DVD
There’s a new Paddington movie?! Omg I’m so excited now. I love that little guy
Do love this because I don't always follow what's being released so it's nice to see what to look for from someone whose opinion I respect 😊
"Given that the first day of this year was a Monday, how are we supposed to function?" Thank you! I don't know why (and maybe it was just me) but the fact that NYE was on a SUNDAY fucked me up something ROTTEN
Honestly it was a VERY peculiar start to the year!!
@@DanLayton 😬I hope that's not a bad sign (given the last couple of years)

My partner and I went to see The holdovers based on your Christmas films video and we absolutely ADORED it. Would absolutely recommend it to anyone.
i'm ready to be a movie girly again! I wanna see all the movies! so I'm living for this content
Oh my gosh you're going to love letterboxd!! So glad you've joined 😁 and please make more videos like this

Thank you for your unending positivity and chatty approach Dan. Always lovely to spend time with you.

Yeah. Yeah I know. It just came out.

This is what I write my dissertation on! So it’s something I’m definitely intrigued to make!
@@DanLayton ooo, if it's a special interest then it could definitely be a series. 15 minute deep dive into a particular movie adaptation yes please

thanks to your enthusiasm about The Holdovers, I went to watch it over the holidays in Antwerp and it was incredible! So grateful for the rec :)
Oh that’s brilliant! I’m very glad!
makin lemon bars as i watch this, lovely to hear from my favorite youtube star/actor dan layton

I love a stumble now and again, but the journal has been a game changer for me!
I listen to your videos during work at the office. Your voice has a calming influence 👌 I also love to know what films you’re loving/hating
I've booked a lil solo cinema trip for the first time ever to go see The Holdovers, purely because you recommended it! I can't wait!

I loved Mad Max: Fury Road so I am hyped for Furiosa! :D
I'm super excited for The Settlers, I love westerns and it seems reminiscent of The Great Silence which was wonderfully bleak
Love Dan videos keep any And all coming cause you just have a way with it. I'm likely biased but love when you post videos. Great 2024 start
I am currently studying in Finland and the cineworld unlimited card is the one thing i miss the most
Loved this Dan ❤

Gloriously hang-out-y video! Thank you! Also, if you feel comfortable, was wondering why there was no connection for you with ‘In the Heights’?

I’m still not over the changes they made to Sweeney Todd. And I actually LIKE that film.
Love this video but I gotta ask, are you really hold les miz as an example of a good adaptation???
Nope, that’s for another video…
it is wild hearing someone criticise the producers for it's adaptation into film, when it was a film first
I am hardly waiting. I really wish the 2024 movies included a second animation sequel movie.
Fury Road was unbelievably good but in large part due to amazing practical effects and stunts; the amount of CGI in the Furiosa trailer makes me nervous 😣
I'm saddened that the upcoming powerhouse Sonic the Hedgehog 3 hasn't graced the list.
Some things are just too great even for me
chris hemsworth gets to work in his natural aussie accent for once! maybe it's weird to be happy about that, but i'm kind of a dork about accents.
TIL there are NOT two different Mean Girls movies coming out 😅
parasocial relationship or not - you and I would be friends :-P
balls.
I saw The Color Purple twice in theaters so far. It’s amazing.
I’m very excited to catch it when I can!!
