Aaron, if you (at any time) need a machinist to make you parts, e-mail me. I'll make them for 1/4 the price due to the fact that you continue to make my childhood memories come back to life. It brings a tear of joy to my eye.
Technically, Aaron would have about, like three full Rockafire Explosions, because he has characters and other parts lying all around creative eng. I'm sure if he went searching around, he would be able to combine the miscellaneous parts and put cosmetics on them, put them in crates, and he would have more Rockafire Explosions to sell.
just want to drop a line and say thanks for giving us the behind look on how it is all made. you have been part of my child hood for as long as i can remember. I got to see the rockafire when there was a showbiz pizza place in madison WI. that was when i lived in lake mills (a small town here in WI) at that time. So any ways i thought i should share this with you and i am happy to see therockafire still going today.
I pour latex in silicone molds and it's tricky. The first issue is you are using liquid latex that is made to be used with plaster molds. I use a thicker latex that sticks and builds up very thick. The second thing I do is I duct air from a dehumidifier into the mold so that it blows it dry much more quickly and doesn't allow the latex to "sag" while it's drying. Last but not least - even with thick latex and a dehumidifier blowing on the thing, it takes a couple of weeks for it to dry enough for you to pull a good casting.
I hope you guys are still in business and that you are training an apprentice or two so that these skills are never lost. As long as the animatronic characters exist, there will be a need for someone to do proper restorations and repairs on them.
Big difference... the Loony Bird mold is made of fiberglass. The other molds are made of clay/plaster or whatever. Obviously, the composition of fiberglass/resin is incompatible with the latex, hence why it's not thickening up properly. What happened to the original plaster mold for the Loony Bird? Of course, someone at sometime probably added something to the fiberglass mold (perhaps a type of powder?) or to the latex, to make it not negatively react (or not react (in the case of coagulation), as the case may be) with the fiberglass. :-D What that was, is anyone's guess... though Google may yield up some answers, with enough persistence. Wait a sec... latex has water in it, doesn't it? And plaster can absorb water. Maybe the issue is that the fiberglass/resin isn't absorbing enough water (or fast enough), to make a thick layer of latex, to form a mask! A layer of water absorbing material (talcum powder, perhaps?) applied to the inside of the fiberglass/resin mold was probably used to make up the difference! Hmm?
I was watching the trailer for key and peele movie And in the background I saw the rockafire explosion in the background do you have any opinion on that
I actually really like the music and I havent heard every beatles song(so thats why iw as asking haha), and its amazing how you still managed to get the latex out and fix up the mold!
I thought that music sounded familiar. I haven't watched "The Point" in years. I think I've still got it recorded on one of my old VHS tapes somewhere.
+Aden Thie -Not for a while..I am developing version II and I don't want any more people waiting for delivery. So, I'll let you know when it's ready on my web site.
Great! So you are Aaron himself? I really grateful for you replying. You have probably heard this soo many times, but you have literally changed my life!

i'm glad you're not giving up, mr. fechter, keep up the good work.

Wow, I've never seen Gooney Bird, even though I've heard so much about him. How cool.
I'm so excited I'm going to Creative engineering during spring break :OOOO
Did you?
Well I just went this spring break 2021
The sound of the latex pouring is extremely satisfying!
I still watch these videos because I'm so amazed how my mask came out! :)

that's pretty cool, even tho it didn't work out, I'm sure you can make an even better plaster mold from that plug.
Can't wait to see part two, I hope you'll be able to make another mold.
Look at those guns! I would not want to be in a fight against Aaron!
Lol!
same!

Wow, I never thought about how you would need to check the molds when they got old, I guess it makes sense.
