Me too, really struggling with it, I wonder if some people are simply unable to obtain it despite practice. Like a talent you are born with or not.
3 years is not a lot of time to get limb independence. I’ve been playing for 7+ and wouldn’t rate my independence as that great, although I can do this exercise quite easily on my left hand and right foot. It’s more about how independent you are than whether or not you have it, it’s a spectrum and very much a grind

One of the clearest lessons on independence I've seen!
Many years ago, when i was struggling through some dry exercises on independence, I saw a documentary on Buddy Rich
One of the experts said that Buddy was an extra-ordinary timekeeper, but what made him stand out was that he used his left hand nit just to mark 2 and 4, but he'd play rolls and figures like a brass section plays stabs and short phrases
A light when on in my head, and I grabbed my old Krupa/Rich CDs and listened.
Sure enough, that's what Buddy was doing. I heard how his lines enhanced the music
From then on, it changed my view on independence. When I'm playing or working on a groove, I'm not listening to it in isolation.
Rather, I'm thinking melodically. If I can't sing the phrase I'm trying to play on snare, cymbal or whatever, then its just an exercise in math, not music.
Another thing I got was from his friend and mentor, Gene Krupa.
Krupa always said that if you can't dance during a drum solo, he'd felt like he'd failed.
So one of my favourite independence exercise, which later became my drum solo framework, was based on this. Essentially a 3:2 clave on hi-hat, triplets on the left hand, 8ths on the right, and playing/improvising on the right foot.
As I play, i then switch it around the limbs as I feel...it's a poor mans Ginger Baker impression but I enjoy it!
And there's something about the 3:2 polyrhythm that is so energising, don't you think?

This is what should a begginer should learn first. It might be hard, but youll get the hang of it after you get the hang of it, try doing fills that require a lot of independence.

Super simple 😳. Does limb independance become easier as you get better. As I sit here, days ticking down to my 1st lesson I'm thinking 'I'm never going to be able to do this'

The second exercise is from "The Language Of Drumming" by Benny Greb
Being a metal drummer, the feet are almost no problem, and left hand is only a little bit challenging. Right hand however, kills me. I also prefer doing 8ths with the ride and quarters with the hihat for those offbeat snares, which adds to the difficulty.

My left foot wants to add a few beats to the pulse when I start with the melody on the bass. I WILL get this! Great simple lesson that’s not so simple.

When i watch guys like Thomas lang or estepario sebriano, some guys just seem to eventually grow a whole seperate brain for each limb! Some with years of sweating blood n practice n some literally just have it from the get go. Some guys practice their whole lives n cant achieve it atleast not 100%.. danny carey was another one when i saw his drum cam for pneuma it made my brain hurt a lil watching it...then u have guys like mike mangini who are literally drum machines personified!! I have noticed tho the even tho mike mangini is like a computer and can play anything perfectly and in time, it doesn't always translate into drum parts that u feel emotionally if that makes sense...iv always noticed that especially in terms of a mangini v portnoy for example.. portnoy is a legend but isnt on a drum machine computer scale as mangini, yet i connect for more to his writing and "feeling" that u can grasp within the music... i only bring that up because i had a fresh debate about the whole portnoy v mangini after DT announced portnoys return so its fresh in my mind..
Nick is such an amazing drummer. He makes even these terrible electronic drums sound musical
I may practice these techniques for general dexterity training. I'm not a drummer, but playing solo projects has lots of hands on keys and guitars and feet working pedals. Also, if we aren't allowed to give a shoutout to our amazing sales person aka Joseph Secu, then i'll accept the punishment of no candy on my next order.

My favorite independence exercise is reciting the declaration of independence while playing 8th note triplets on my left foot, upbeat pulses with my right arm with improvised stick rebound fills, and migrating a simple snare accent pattern one beat later every four bars.
You think that's hard? You should see what I do with the bill of rights!

I can do this exercice easy now but wy when i try to play purdie shuffle it feel like i dont have a good independence im nailing this exercice whit any limb

I don't. Really. Why don't they just trust their ears? Especially if people call themselves musicians this should possible, shouldn't it? Nice idea, with infinite variations to play with. Just one thing: Please consider to use an accoustic drum set for your videos, or a good sounding module, like mimic pro or strike or drumit three. These Roland sounds are annoying.
