There is a reason why he "wanted" Streisand to sit in his chair--she insists that she only be filmed on her left side because she thinks its her better side. She's done this in every single interview (pull up other interviews and you'll see she's on the wrong side of the host.) It's a peculiarity of hers.
yocomet Is it? Some people think they have a "better" side, and she's got enough star power to make them change the set. Even Oprah had to sit in the guest chair when she interviewed Streisand.
no I'm saying that that's creepy how that whole "random changing of positions" was all planned out particularly and added to the show for that request ahaa
Thanks to my mom I saw her in concert at the Staples Downtown LA 4 years ago . It was a birthday present from her. The concert was great I loved it. I lost mom 6 1/2 months ago thanks mom I love and miss you terribly.
Reading all the comments makes me realize most who watched this clip are probably under 35. And I mean no disrespect in saying that! It just that if you are under 35 , its impossible to understand what a big deal Barbara was back in her "heyday". Forget the 40 Grammy nominations or 8 Grammy wins or, the 150 million records sold. She was an extremely talented actress as well with 5 Oscar nominations and 2 Oscar wins. She was like Rihanna and Jennifer Lawrence rolled into one. And yes she looks good for her age and yes she's a bit odd. But she is also one of the most talented individuals in the history of entertainment! And people like Katy Perry, Rihanna, Lady Gaga and Beyoncé, who idolized people like Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, Celine Dion and Madonna, who idolized people like Aretha Franklin, Diana Ross and Barbara Streisand, who idolized people like Judy Garland, Patsy Cline and Billy Holiday. Just sayin it all about perspective. Im not saying you should like Barbra. To be honest, im not much of a fan myself. But growing up with a mother who played her music every single day, and remembering how much Barbra music meant to my mom. I have all the respect in the world for her! Not just for her talent, but for that joy she brought to my mom as well as millions all over the world. And that joy, although 40 years old, is no less real then the joy a lot of you feel when you listen to Adele or Arianna Grande or Christina Aguilera!
I disagree with that generalisation. I'm 28 and appreciate how talented Barbra was and still is, so it's not 'impossible' as you say. Not all under 35 are uncultured or ignorant as you seem to think. I'm a big fan of musical theatre. One of my other favourites is Michael Crawford, he is a legend!
". . . in her heyday."? I disagree also. I wonder why she's in New York. More than likely she 'now' is a mover & a shaker in entertainment. Decisions requiring person-to-person interactions. There is much that is involved in entertainment in assisting life in facilitating domestic tranquility AND promoting creativity in ALL facets of civilization. Money and profits are a minor consideration. Maybe (just maybe -- ('I', myself, don't know)) that's why she was in New York.
cottoncandydiva Im sorry but it is a generational thing! And again, i dont mean any disrespect in any way. But you dont understand is how entertainment was back in the 60's and 70's. The number one show on television had between 65 and 75 million viewers every week. That was because there were a total of 12 TV channels, not 300 like we have today, There was no internet, cell phones, DVD's or even anything you could buy in the way of video to take home and watch. it didnt exist. The access to content was A FRACTION compared to what it is today! So when your favorite entertainers came out with new music or a new movie, and came on television to promote, it was a HUGE deal! And if you missed it, you were screwed. Again, no Tivo no internet to watch it again and again. And you might not think that has anything to do with my point but it does. When you have 2 things you love equally, but one of them you have access to at will, and the other you have access to maybe once or twice a year, the anticipation and excitement of the ladder, gives you a totally different feeling then the former.
yay I love this comment. I'm 18 and I've come to love barbara through my obsession with musicals. Funny girl is one of my favs! Her voice is so powerful and she was such a unique and comedic actress, never changed herself to fit society's standards. I've read the comments on the Tonight show clips that involve barbara and they're all so negative, saying that she's the scum of the earth?? I'm confused...
yes... As a 90's kid who grew up with "The Nanny" I have to say that thats where I know Barbra from as well. As I got older I learned to appreciate her more and more though
This really shows how much class Jimmy Fallon has! Notice how he takes down his tone, more calm than with other guests, really reading the situation perfectly, as I see it! Well done Jimmy! :-D
Well neither does Mickey Rourke or Bruce Jenner, but at least she still looks human...lol...and you can still recognize who she is. The other two I mentioned are unrecognizable...you can add Kenny Rogers to the unrecognizable list as well. You can't tell me you wouldn't know who she was if u saw her on the street...I would never recognize Mickey Rourke had I not known he had a bunch of surgery already. She still looks enuff like herself that you still know who she is.
Lol...but I REALLY don't think Bab's surgery made her unrecognizable. Perhaps had she had rhinoplasty or chin and cheek implants, then she probably wouldn't look the same anymore...but those are not the procedures she has had. I think the only things she had were a face lift (which just stretches everything back and really isn't something that will make u unrecognizable) and MAYBE a chemical peel which won't change anything about the structure of your face. She's 72 now and still has an active career. I don't blame her for wanting to still look presentable. Saying she looks "nothing like herself" just isn't true unless the person who is looking at her has problems with their vision...I see very little difference other than that she looks tighter and better than she did. It truly is one of the better facelifts on a celebrity I've seen...ever. CHERISH, what exactly do you think she did to make her look "nothing like herself"? I'd recognize her without any problem.
***** Wanna know the truth? When I saw Barbara on the show, I really didn't take plastic surgery into consideration. Didn't cross my mind. So it burst a bubble in my "wow" when you brought it up. lol Reality hits! lol
***** Once again, NOOOOO she did not have a lot of work done. YOu bitches are crazy. I know that face. I can about tell you what she has done, very minimal. First of all, she is scared to death of surgeries and hospitals, because of how her father died. Anything she has done, very minimal, a little botox, possibly a slight procedure to the tip of her nose because in age it tends to droop, she had talked about this. But she is a performer, you have to look your best but no way has she had extensive work done. Her motto: "Less is more:. trust me, she has followed that motto. She has lost some weight over the past few years, which helps her appearance and she has always had this incredibly good skin. Look at her hands. For a 72 yr old woman, come on. You can always tell by the hands. And the neck. So don't lump her in with the rest. If it's not apparent right off the bat that plastic surgery was done, it probably wasn't. Botox is not plastic surgery. Neither is microdermabrasions or chemical peels, all which keep the skin younger looking and glowing.
Fallon is totally awestruck by Streisand. Lost all his composure. But I love him for that. At 72, Streisand can still manage to fascinate people because her works has been amazing since she was 18. Wonderful! I don't care about the botox, plastic surg or leftside/rightside rumours. Entertainers need to look good in public.
When Fallon says she "has the gift", one has to agree. I have the gift too, but it is like she got a Bentley, and I got a Chevette. My gift can get me someplace, but hers is AWESOME.
I'm 12, and barbra is like my life.... and sang a few of her songs for my talent shows, I have her cd... omfg I watch funny girl at least once a week.. I love her, and she looks great for 72
My grandparents met her when they were younger at a party with friends. My grandfather worked producing on Broadway! I wish I could have met her! And Jimmy!
This lady can sing. Period. But I got to tell you the only time I laughed so hard I literally fell out of my seat in a movie auditorium was watching her in 'What's up Doc ?'. I owe her for that. I think it added ten years to my life.
She's a little bit arrogant sometimes but she's a true diva. I don't know why some people think Lovato, Gomez, Spears, Perry or Gaga are divas. This word has lost its beautiful glamorous meaning over the years.
Arrogant - having or revealing an exaggerated sense of one's own importance or abilities. Definitely NOT the definition of Barbra Streisand. If anything, she has been one of the very few actors who made it to the big lights and has stayed out of the limelight. She is an amazing actress and songwriter.
There cannot be Divas and Stars today b/c we know too much about them. When we know everything about them, they become as normal as us, there is no separation. A touch of it is fine, but with the Internet, seeing Stars at their worst, they are not Stars. No one ever caught Joan Crawford having a bad hair day. They always were immaculate and called press conferences (no 24 hr news) and were so polite. Their world really did seem different than ours. They were Gods and Goddesses.
Barbra always demands to be filmed mainly from her left side. So Jimmy made it so. Unlike Oprah which switched the entire set around. Cuz NO ONE sits in Oprah's throne ! Whatever.
Probably one of the most inwardly beautiful and gentle funny women with talent ive ever seen. This interview is so good its perfect how it went down. This is a Lady femininity personified. Her voice a gift from God to bless humanity.

Jerry Benjamin right on. I'm under the 30's but it doesn't mean a thing to me with the love I have for a variety of talents that you've listed and the point of where their inspirations came from. Lets not forget the feeling of it all. Great comment.
The "other" guy that neither of them recognized was Jonathan Winters (great comedian that was Robin Williams' hero and on whom he modeled his own comedy career)

RayasNegroOvejas Carson black listed her from his show after she cancelled on him at the last minute. He said she would never be invited back. And by him, she wasn't. I love Barbra, but I remember this. Not sure why she didn't show. Never heard her really talk about it. I always just figured she had some kind of insecurity thing going on, some kind of bad day. It wasn't going to break her career, but Carson took everything personally.
Barbra is the queen. I have loved her since 1976. Jimmy is the best at what he does. Id love to know what you haters do for a living. Probably nothing....!!!
Barbara's voice is so sweet and calm
She has a very sweet voice, her singing voice is loud and beautiful but when she talks it seems so soft and quiet, I love it~

Jimmy is hysterically fun and funny. The two of them are darling.
Streisand is the ultimate star 🌟
It's so cute how nervous he is
She's such a sweet lady, she seems really cool
All musicians become impressed with Jimmy. He's a rockstar in a talk show host's body
Love her so much! 💕😍👑

She recently admitted to having fillers in her interviews. But truth be told! Barbra has always looked very youthful. You know she hasn't done much because she still looks like her. And at 72, that is one gorgeous voice.

SHE LOOKS GREAT FOR HER AGE. EVEN IF SHE'S HAD WORK DONE, SHE'S BEEN SMART ABOUT IT.
Loveee Babs!
Jimmy's such a good sport for sitting in the guest chair, which must have been because of Barbara Streisand's demand.
Stop it. Just stop.
Oh yes.
She was today on Ellen's and sits on Ellen's place because she doesn't like her right profile ; So I guess here's exactly what happens
it's true and I saw her on Ellen's show today and that is exactly how it went - Ellen said it outright with Barbra sitting right there and to which Barbra agreed, saying she has a 'good' side (indicating her left profile) and that's why she asked to sit in Ellen's chair. Also, the lighting on Ellen's set was visibly darker as seen by all the many shadows. Barbra didn't even try to hide it was at her request.
Like Mariah have to sit on that side. But headed divas
So smooth "making" her sit on the chair. Bravo Jimmy. But now we all know that's what Barbra wanted after the Ellen interview 😛
Barbra is STILL SO COOL......she was even good in The Guilt Trip........loved her in that. She's a very modern woman. LOVE YOU BARBRA!
