The Cube ability is basically just a P-switch from Mario, and I'm not sure that really belongs that well in a Sonic game that's supposed to be really fast-paced.

Sonic Colors Wii's mostly positive reception has mystified me for years. I tried playing the game twice a long time ago, and I kept getting an experience that felt bland, repetitive, and hardly flowed well. Finally someone who agrees with me on this! I played both the DS version and Wii version and I found that I liked the DS version a lot more and thought the Wii version was almost too sterilized and boring compared to it. I think the only reason the Wii version got more attention is because people liked to sleep on the DS back then.
Honestly? This was probably the first Sonic game where I was actually getting burnt out playing it. Prior to Colors, nearly every Sonic game gave you either alternate characters to play, or alternated the gameplay itself. Or the gameplay sucked but the plot was engaging enough to keep you going (coughStorybookGamescough) Colors had neither of those. The thing keeping me going was literally the awe of how pretty Starlight Carnival and Planet Wisp were. I'll remember those parts fondly for sure, but this is one of the few games I just don't have any interest replaying. I'm not missing anything except new glitches.
just on a regular romp through the levels i can se ewhy you feel that way and definitly have experienced that, though i think the game shines most when going for 100%, exploring the areas and sing the wisp to do that to get all the red rings is quite fun and having to collect the red rings as fast as you can while collecting and keeping a large amount of rings while also trying to maximize wisp usage for the extra points for the S ranks was really fun imo. i still dont' think it's as good as a lot of people say but i definitly didn't give the level design enough credit until a couple weeks ago when i went for 100%
I bought it on the Wii back when it came out and I still to this day haven’t finished it. I remember hearing it was basically the daytime stages of Unleashed, but I can’t say I agree. The level design was so bland compared to Unleashed. This was also when I noticed that the storytelling in the series had been considerably dumbed down and lame.
great video man, i love sonic colors, especially the DS version, because sonic colors ds is the game that brought me to this franchise (yeah i becoma a sonic fan from a mario fan) because if i don't have NDS maybe i won't be a sonic fan, and yes i also play the wii version from dolphin as well, i really enjoy 3D Boost of sonic game play and some day i really want sonic unleashed being ported to PC / Modern console officially (not counting xbox series x/s backward compatibity) because i never played the xbox 360 / ps3 version of unleashed, i also played sonic generations, adventure 1 & 2, Lost World, the 3 original first game, shadow the hedgehog, and mania, though only colors and generations i've completed for 100% (haven't played 06 and forces btw) well maybe that was not much for a hardcore fans, but at least i'm happy to be a sonic fan and i'm really hope that frontiers at least it will be a good sonic game with a good story & gameplay (if that can't be great) but still i wish the best for this franchise because i really want sonic to shine again just like back then in early 2000 until 2010s and hope that frontiers will be one of the best modern sonic game (but i put low expectation and i only hope the best for sonic team and sega) because i really don't want frontiers to become a failure / bad game anymore (not saying forces is bad) btw great job for making this video, i like all your honest opinion 👍

7:52 Sonic Colors on Wii released when I was 9 and Baldy Nose hair was never funny. To ten year old me, Shadow kicking Silver in the head in 06 and that cutscene in Unleashed where Chip bumps into Werehog Sonic prompting him to swat at Chip in made me genuinely laugh. Since most of these games contain back and forth or exposition during cutscenes, sprinkling in a bit of slapstick with the characters reacting in a realistic way is key. In more recent games, Zomom smacking Sonic with a sandwich was pretty good, and Sonic beating up Zavok was hilarious, if only they didn't follow it up with a lame chili dog one liner afterwards.

But the point is I could hear something there. Then you do a Knuckles dialogue reference and I gotta say… I haven’t changed my mind.
42:46-44:06 will forever be one of my favorite things that Nick, or any Sonic fan for that matter, has said. There's no way to make that section any more perfect.
"Are we just this accustomed to glitchy games at launch?" Gee, I don't know. Why don't we ask the people who defend all of modern Pokémon's blatant bullsh*t in that regard? Bleh.
I actually got the DS version of sonic colors first when i was little (it was a conscious choice too). I loved the game so much and played it all the time on my own and with my friend. I eventually got the wii version, expecting it to be great because everyone said it was. I realized while playing it that I was really spoiled with the DS version and REALLY didnt like the wii version. It had pretty good 3d sections but most of the game is slow 2d, its like they took inspiration from the first sonic games second level, made it slower, made much more then even the 3d sections, and the cherry on top was the bad controls and slow wisps. The DS version in my opinion is a faaaaar better version to the wii and im really glad i got it first. I would also say i almost dislike it as much as sonic forces but forces makes colors wii look like a great game.
Personally, as a DS colors player, I played the newer colors on Xbox and I wasn't a huge fan with the 3D areas. I really enjoyed the 2D of the DS more than the Xbox (which probably isn't much). But, I still enjoyed the DS version more. A small rant from a 17 year old.
They dim the lights for lazer so people won't have seizures. Because I dunno I guess basic lighting and colors can make anyone have seizures in games and other media
Loved your video split apart, love it put together, covers a lot of why I didn't like Colors but still remains respectful to those fans like I try to do. Don't have much to say that I didn't say in the others. Keep my complaints brief since I already said them on the other video, I think other Sonic games deserved a remake more, just because Colors was good as it was, even if it was a Wii exclusive (...TECHNICALLY, you could play it via X Box via emulation). 06, Heroes, Adventure duo need remakes more. My original issue with Colors was not enough 3d, the 1st level in each world is amazing, but I play boost formula to go fast, and adventure games to adventure, I want 2d I'd play the classics, Mania, or classic Sonic 1/2 of Generations. The other levels are either puzzle like, precarious with Sonic's bad jump, among other things. Colors just wasn't my speed vs Generations or Unleashed (day 1/2) which are. That being said I know people liked this game and it's wrong that this game doesn't not only live up to their expectations, but also doesn't reach beyond it to do something new. Commercialized as a remake but is essentially a port, could've done something cool with Metal Sonic maybe replace 2 of the repeated bosses so we don't have 2 bosses reused 3 different times. Could've given 1 fight 1/2 the wisps to Metal Sonic, the other battle he has the other 1/2. Customization is a neat concept though. Was it Sega's fault? Was it this other developer company? whose to say, but going forward I hope we can say that Sega has learned from this, much like Pokemon BDSP I hope they know that they shouldn't just remake/remaster/whatever any game to tide fans over and should focus on making their new game good. That they also should focus on making the remakes good, to breath new life into an old game 1, and 2 to give new players the experience us older fans felt when we initially played them.
What if sonic threw tails in the elevator, then said something like "I'm getting really tired of this game, Eggman. *It's time I scrambled you like the rotten egg you are!* "
Colors Ultimate was mostly handled by Blind Squirrel Games, and while they do good stuff, but they do have some seriously bad lows. They are most well known for the disaster that was the Switch port of WWE 2K18
Sonic Colors deserved the remake that Kirby's Return to Dreamland got. You can almost tell how well a game franchises is doing at keeping it's fans happy by how few fangames get made for that franchise.
My biggest problem with Colors Ultimate is that it doesn't live up to the Ultimate part of the title. There was really nothing new added to improve the quality of life of the game. No multiple character unlocks, no hidden levels, no bonus story, no release of deleted content. Just some sad cosmetics and glitchy gameplay. The re-release definitely plays worse than the OG.
There was just a big update yesterday and I think now sonic color ultimate is the best version of the game but still no excuse for why the game came out the way it is but at least I now have the option to listen to the remix, original or the ultimate sound track and the game looks beautiful with boost bur off
Could someone please tell me what the tune is at 41:15? EDIT: Thank goodneess I came across it in a compilation! In case anyone else is struggling, it's the world map for Planet Wisp!
Whenever I played Colors Ultimate for the first time, I was so... bored. It felt like I had just gotten all the joy from the original game because of nostalgia. But I think I should give it another try. I feel like if I do, I'll appreciate almost if not just as much as I used to.
Colors was literally called ''the only good 3D Sonic game'' back when it came out by most review websites, it played a major role in the overhype concerning the game and eventually the extreme negative backlash towards it.
@@BlackScreenProductions125 Considering the main arguments for that claim were ''there's no story, no playable friends, no other gameplay styles AKA this game is amazing for all the things it doesn't do'', then yeah it is pretty moronic. That isn't to say the game does nothing right at all but when its greatest accomplishments are for not doing anything, it's no wonder that blindly trying to replicate that success eventually led to the bland, sanitized experience of current times.

Can we go back to Secret Rings tone? Seeing as the comedy does not work and not many people complained about Secret Rings tone?
Mario and Crash have better written comedy.
Sonic talking to the robots is very awkward without the music.
I'm currently waiting for my grandpa to (attempt to) fix my Wii, so I'm hoping for the best so I can play this great game (the Wii version) again.
I know sonic colors is a bad game but that intro theme slaps
Bad???
@@_V.Va_ yes
@@RaginDragn24 this is exactly why I’m no longer a Sonic fan

Bro man got folded more then clothing when you are moving
While watching this I completely stopped playing sonic colors and turned on mania
I quit Sonic as a whole
11:12 Speaking of shit, I lost mine right here
I just realized something reach for the stars suits Mario Galaxy more than colors
Agreed.
1:10:56 No it was a pun, it's Asteroid Coaster, an asteroid wiped out the dinosaurs, you know what I'm saying?
I can't beleive that they added an entire customization menu but there aren't any Soap shoes in sight
i always like the werehog but that is probably just my love for werewolves talking
this was fabulous, but can we go to adventure without anything in the middle now
Tbh the best part of this game is the music, especially the main theme (wii that is)
Nearly got the verification mark
Man the eggman announcements are extremely Glados like
There was just a big update yesterday and I think now sonic color ultimate is the best version of the game but still no excuse for why the game came out the way it is but at least I now have the option to listen to the remix, original or the ultimate sound track and the game looks beautiful with boost bur off
Could someone please tell me what the tune is at 41:15?
EDIT: Thank goodneess I came across it in a compilation! In case anyone else is struggling, it's the world map for Planet Wisp!
"Hey bro you wanna meet up at McNoseHairs for some food?"
The clobbering topped with everything joke is to call back on the fact that Roger Craig Smith used to work in Pizza Hut ads
11:50 well, that escalated quickly.
18:45 why did the futurama theme play?
The cars
@@hanezutchins2786 okay.
Whenever I played Colors Ultimate for the first time, I was so... bored. It felt like I had just gotten all the joy from the original game because of nostalgia. But I think I should give it another try. I feel like if I do, I'll appreciate almost if not just as much as I used to.
So...I can't be the only one who has never heard anyone call Colors "a good game" before, can I?
Colors was literally called ''the only good 3D Sonic game'' back when it came out by most review websites, it played a major role in the overhype concerning the game and eventually the extreme negative backlash towards it.
@@MegaGlassguy well, if that's true, then that's...moronic, putting it lightly.
You've probably already noticed, but that's a pretty egregious typo you've got there in your title card for the thumbnail.
Yup. Appreciate the heads up. I'll sort it out.
What was it?
