@@LEsL564 Palestine was the name used for the area as early as 12th century B.C. by the ancient Egyptians. The Assyrians called it Phalastu in the 8th and 7th centuries B.C., and Herodotus and other Hellenistic philosophers called it Palestine, after the Philistines. “Writing in the 5th century B.C., Herodotus was the first historian to describe vividly a multifaith country located naturally (geographically) between Phoenicia and Egypt, and to denote a geographical region he called Palaistinê,” observes Nur Masalha in his 2018 book, “Palestine: A Four Thousand Year History.” What was Israel called before it was named Israel during the U.N Partition? Judea and Sumeria kingdoms? How long ago? Who were the kingdoms subjects, or citizens? Was it just Jewish people living there only during that time? Maybe looking into Biblical or historical “Israel” which never existed as a country, I can only think of Judea and Sumeria existing back then, and what geographical and geopolitical areas it encompassed… learning history, helps understand the present situation…
@@SsecicKG My dear. I am an archaeologist, I don't need to be lectured on learning history, especially not when you are quoting anti-Israel Palestinian scholars who are more in tune with modern geopolitics than historical ones. I know very well the root and usage of the name Palestine. Yes, Paleshtu was the name given to the Philistine people, not the entire Southern Levant and later the southern coast of the Levant was referred to as Phillistia, because the Philistines lived there, specifically from Gaza to Ashdod and from the Sea until the western Shefelah. The Philistines were seafarers of Greek origin and had contact with the Greeks, hence their ethnic name was adopted to the entire region and Herodotus and later Greek and Roman scholars called the region Palestine because for them, the Philistines were the "main" ethnic people of the region but in reality, archaeological evidence proves they inhabited the coast and NOT the inland. Another theory is that Palestine is a literal Greek translation of the name "Israel", both of which are a form of "to wrestle" or "wrestler". Isra-el (Hebrew- wrestles with God) and Palaistis (Greek- wrestler). (I suppose Masalha never wrote that in his book). The land was called Israel, for the people of Israel. You have proof of the Israelites in the Mernaptah Stela, and of the Kingdom of Israel in Kurk Stela mentioning King Ahab the Israelite. You have Assyrians texts mentioning the House of Omri and yes, later the texts mention the northern Kingdom of Israel as Samaria. This is all paralleled in the Biblical texts as well. Regarding Judah, I won't even start to list the textual evidence as there are plenty (like you wrote). Samaria was a city, first and foremost, and only later began being used as a name for the kingdom after it became its capital. Israel and Judah are the accepted names of Iron Age kingdoms that ruled modern Israel/Palestine, whether you like it or not. What was Israel called before it was named Israel during the U.N Partition?- The British Mandate of Palestine was called in Hebrew המנדט הבריטי על פלשתינה ארץ ישראל (The British Mandate of Palestina Eretz Israel" and all the coins of the Mandate have the א"י to prove it. Judea and Sumeria kingdoms? How long ago? Judah from around 930-587 BCE. Israel (Samaria) 930-700. Easy and so much textual proof from Assyria and Babylonia. Who were the kingdoms subjects, or citizens? Israelites Shomronists and Judahits. I mean, these are Iron Age kingdoms, they didn't have passports. It was ethnicites before it was subjects of a Kingdom. Was it just Jewish people living there only during that time? The term Jewish derives from Judah. So the people of Judah were definitely יהודים, but not Jewish in the religious way. this came after the Babylonian conquests of the Judah and the Jewish return during the Persian conquest. Maybe looking into Biblical or historical “Israel” which never existed as a country, I can only think of Judea and Sumeria existing back then, and what geographical and geopolitical areas it encompassed. Israel as a geopolitical entity, was synonymous with Samaria, as already written. regarding the geography: Israel roughly Jezrael Valley until Shechem. Judah: Shechem until Beer Shava...but this was always changing of course. Archaeological proof is abundant

They said that to South Africans, Native Americans, Algerians, and so on. Oppressors often deny the existence of a place or its people when the oppressed fight back, or they falsely claim to be indigenous instead of the actual indigenous people.

@@deforetime3094 The hostages would be free by now if Netanyahu wouldn’t be rejecting negotiations with Hamas.
For him it’s more important to use the attack on Israel to try to get all Palestinians thrown out of Gaza. That was the goal of the Israeli part of this war. Because reaching the goal of throwing almost every Palestinian out of Greater Israel would have been the way to reach the goal of defeating Hamas and getting the accusations of being an Apartheid state off the table.
And the West was totally complicit with this goal. And up to now they’re only asking from Israel to hurry up because they can’t resist the resistance of their populations forever.

100 Year old cast iron drain covers in most towns embossed with 'Government of Palestine' is a bit of a giveaway...
Of what..that there was a British Mandate of a bordered region that the Europeans called Palestine?
Maybe for people who have such little understanding of geopolitics would not know the difference between a geographic region, a geopolitical region and a country.
Palestine was a geographic region, the synonymous name for it in Hebrew was Israel.
Jews adopted Israel and Arabs adopted the European name "Palestine" as their political entity.
Each name has roots in the land.
But Palestine country is an Arab Muslim-majority geopolity and has nothing to do with the British Mandate Palestine, which was a European Mandate given by the League of Nation of a territory and it's name could have been Spaghetti Monster if the Brits chose so...
Palestine is not a country because it doesn't yet function as one..that doesn't mean that Palestinians are not people, wo will one day have a country
@@LEsL564
Palestine was the name used for the area as early as 12th century B.C. by the ancient Egyptians. The Assyrians called it Phalastu in the 8th and 7th centuries B.C., and Herodotus and other Hellenistic philosophers called it Palestine, after the Philistines. “Writing in the 5th century B.C., Herodotus was the first historian to describe vividly a multifaith country located naturally (geographically) between Phoenicia and Egypt, and to denote a geographical region he called Palaistinê,” observes Nur Masalha in his 2018 book, “Palestine: A Four Thousand Year History.”
What was Israel called before it was named Israel during the U.N Partition?
