40 Years ago I watched Mel Purcell in Vienna. I liked him but did not understand what he played. 10 years later I became a tennis coach for some years. Today I watch Max Purcell. Same movemens, same game a bit more modern of course. Don't understand what he plays. Nice family tradition.
It’s also interesting to see how much effort it takes to stay in good form at the top and even more effort to improve. Most players after top 10-20 never truly improve or reach true potential. It may be that their motivation and/or discipline is not up there, once they started making good money.
Ahh yes, the 500-level tournament with a weaker draw than most 250s. I feel bad for the organizers, as this is usually a fantastic tournament to kick off the hardcourt season.
Hey, it’s Korda and Tiafoe! So how does it feel to willingly make the choice to not even bother to show up for your country at the Olympics when called upon? I guess patriotism ain’t your thing🤷🏻♂️
Not just Korda and Tiafoe. Most tennis players have never cared about the Olympics too much. It may be a big thing for the top players who have a chance to write history (Djokovic wants it badly, as it's the only big title he doesn't have), but for the majority of players, it's just an inconvenient tournament in the middle of a very busy year, on a different surface, often a different continent, with no ranking points or significant prize money, disrupting their preparation for the hard court season...
@@J.-M. I understand their reasoning, and it’s especially valid considering that the clay is such a departure from what should be a hard court prep for the US Open, but it just feels wrong to me, a bit selfish on their part. This is for your country, a matter of patriotism and national pride. Ranking points or no ranking points, prize money or no prize money, if I were a pro athlete, the Olympics would be my life goal before all others, and quite frankly I’m disappointed in any of our athletes who put themselves first when their country called upon them. Just my thoughts🤷🏻♂️
@@Tennisisreallyfun Sure. But tennis is an individual sport, for both players and fans. Players are not competing for their countries (competitions like the Davis Cup have been struggling and dying for decades), and tennis fans don't care about countries too much either. Plus there is a difference between a "pro athlete" and a "pro tennis player". Tennis is a very specific sport. The Olympics are the main goal for many athletes, it's the peak of their career they're looking and preparing for in every 4-year cycle. They're often relatively poor, competing in sports that don't have much media exposure beyond the Olympics where they can become national heroes for millions of people who have often never heard of them before. It may also be one of the few opportunities for them to earn decent money. Tennis players compete in highly popular tours, especially on grand slams, they're often world-famous millionaires who typically play 20 or more tournaments a year, constantly battling with injuries and complaining that the season is too long and exhausting. The Olympics is just another tournament for them, and it cannot beat the grand slams in their (and fans' and experts') eyes in terms of prestige and significance. Not to mention prize money. Even the regular ATP tournaments are often more important for many of them, as that's what they do for a living. They need the money to earn a living, and many of them really need the ranking points because that's what directly influences players' future, tournaments they're allowed to play, their seeding at the tournaments, and therefore the possible future results (and hence ranking and money). Again, all of this is very different from many other sports. But sure, hail to the players who have the heart to disregard all these things and fight for their country.
@@J.-M. “Hail to the players who have the heart to disregard all these things and fight for their country”🤷🏻♂️ In the midst of your long essay explaining things to me I’m well aware of, I still didn’t see anything openly hostile, but this last line seems sarcastic. Look, if you disagree with me, that’s fine, I’m not looking for support here, I just came to this thread to post my thoughts, and they are as stated above. I think that as a pro athlete, no matter what sport you play and how much money you make, you should carve time every four years to play for your country if you are eligible. I feel that that is their duty as representatives of their countries for I do consider sportsmen and women to be representatives of their countries and not just individuals pursuing their own goals. I place a great amount of importance in patriotism and national pride. If you disagree with anything that I said, literally anything at all, I will not hold it against you😉
I had the most Bewildered look on my face at the end of that Kokkinakis vs. Purcell match. I thought someone died.
I have been watching how much Kokkinakis has been improving Heart, focus and resolve! The willingness to fight back!
I think tournaments should offer free tickets in the first rounds to increase tennis popularity. These empty courts look ridiculous.
Nice to see Shapo not pulling random triggers and staying patient in the rally. Is this the turning point?

No

Bravo Miomire! ❤️🇷🇸
Thank you video brilliant compliment
Super combattant Tiafoe, mais bon esprit sur le cours, toujours. 🎉
Why are the seats so empty 👀
For an ATP 500 tournament sighh
Olympics
fewer big names this year because lots of players are in paris
Who would have thought we would see the day when Shapovalov plays Mannarino and Shapovalov is the one with fewer errors

Good to see Korda back.
Those courts and shoes are making a lot of noise

Mannarino has just completely lost the plot.

Off today 🤷
Haha my thought to. That forehand is quite unconventional
Can we have Nadal and Alcaraz playing together please,

What is that thing that korder wears on his head? And why?
I love Wolf's attitude. Play, lose and exit like nothing happened...
Ofc i'm joking but gets me mad cause he's stronger than this!!!
what happened to wolf? he was booming last year and he’s just dropped right off poor bloke

Wolf out here just getting exposed on the daily. He and whatever team he has must be totally confused. He's basically Giron with more Ls.
Wolfie has lost the plot.
Why Tiafoe is not playing in the Olympics instead of farming these low level tournaments?
He focuses on hardcourt swing
How's a 500 low level 🤣 he needs all the point's he can get
When did they bring back the towels being brought by ball boys?
After Novak destroyed Mannarino in Australia he has been losing a lot in first rounds
