Thanks for throwing in the Carmen. I think people forget just how awesome she was.
Most people don’t even even know she existed. I think she’s incredible.
Sadly, indeed..
@@kenmicallefjazzvinylaudiop6455If that is so, it's astounding! She's probably my favourite jazz singer. And she was rather prolific in terms of releases.
People commenting on sound quality based on a (clearly ID’d!) iPhone recording cracks me up. I would LOVE to hear this system in person.
Fabulous! Both the playlist and the equipment.
Great presence; this is what grandad listens to when the kids with their iPhones and earbuds go home.
Yes, Thanks for the Carmen McRae!
Need a squirrel brain to watch this
What Chico Freeman record was that?
I was about to ask on IG of a video is coming about it 🤣. Always great to see Devon’s system. I imagine you had a blast playing records there.
This is so attractive, but it would be like investing in a new home. Next lifetime.. Thanks for show a little bit of heaven.
rm plinth for the Technics 1200G?If so I gotta find out how much it is
How do you like the Ojas sound?
Incredibly transparent. It’s a real time machine.
Is it my ears, or does the system play quite fast?
Ken the thing I love about you is that you not only talk the music but allow us to hear it. Ty. Please identify the tract at 7:20 in the presentation. Drum and Trumpet.? Tia
new ambrose akinmusure record, artist credits listed above
Wonderful! Very much enjoyed this, would love to see more or hear more about system and the records!
Check out OJAS. Devon Turnbull
No acoustic treatment? 🤔
You can find out about this show room through Steve Guttenbergs audiophiliac and you can read about Devon Turnbull in Resistor magazine.
I interviewed him on my channel over a year ago. Three different installments.
Steve makes a cameo appearance @ 8.56
Thanks Ken.. From 8:26 you found a good spot audio-quality-wise..
No, thats just Steve filtering the sound. 😂 @audiophiliac
Agreed. Not sure what changed. Rest sounds thin and 2D.
Perhaps it just is the recordings. It came alive around 8.30. I'd be interested in hearing something I recognize like Steve's MA Recordings sampler.
This sounds good on my laptop speakers!
Mine, too, the clarity of the system really comes through
I think you are right and wrong at the same time. You are right in the sense that a higher level of neutrality can be purchased at a substantially lower price (let’s say a set of Revel Salon II driven by any competently designed solid state amplifier) Where you are wrong is in the assumption that people are looking for neutrality in the first place. Stereo and loudspeaker listening are flawed by design and absolute neutrality cannot be obtained. Therefore people are looking for for colorations which are sympathetic to the music and which they like rather than what’s in the recording. The Bose 901’s is another perfect example of this. Amar Bose felt that envelopment and missing warmth was what made him dislike listening to music. Ultimately he designed a loudspeaker system that prioritizes these things above anything else. Making people either absolutely love or hate the product. While writing this I am listening through a pair of Sony MDR Z1R headphones a headphone which also divides listeners because of its somewhat wonky frequency balance. What I hear is not neutrality but warmth and wonderful separation of the instruments. Greetings from Denmark
The above was meant as a reply to the person who further complained about the sound and hipsters. So read it in this context. Anyway it reflects my general view quite well. Greetings from Denmark
Lame excuses. Horn colouration is wildly unsympathetic to the music unless one thinks of music as what is reproduced by PA systems in rock concerts.
if pa horns are your reference you've heard nothing of what horns can do.
@@kenmicallefjazzvinylaudiop6455 No, of course they are not my 'reference' but I haven't heard an 'audiophile' horn which doesn't sound like a horn and nothing like real music regardless of the price.. It seems your reference is not unamplified music in the first place.
@@razisn I was a drummer for 16 years. I’ve spent a lot of time in studios and concert situations. Most of the great jazz we love today was recorded with tubes and horn speakers. Maybe you need to get out more
Gorgeous selections Ken!
Wonderful, thank you for this selection, Ken.
