      It will be a real challenge. Neither Iowa or much of the rest of the Midwest have had volcanos, the original gold source. All gold in Iowa and the Midwest is thought to have been dropped from glaciers when they retreated. All you are likely to find is fine flour gold - don't expect any nuggets.
      See raregoldnuggets.com/?p=650 for some information on gold in Iowa.

    Enjoy your vid's,
    A small piece of knowledge on your vacuum... knocking the air filter (into a pan) out after each section you clear will give you longer battery life (it really depletes batt fast with just a little dust).. the other thing to note is the bottom of the unit is very thin (try not to slide), but adding a layer of vinyl/neoprene (siliconed to bottom) will keep the foot pads from getting holes & losing vacuum. Hope that helps

    • @wakeupidiotsnow2611
      @wakeupidiotsnow2611 5 років тому +1

      mrmcclung - great comments and suggestions, the first time I saw anyone using the VAC was in AZ cleaning bedrock in dry washes, dirty hot nasty work in the desert 🌵 they were using generators to keep their dry sluice running and VAC’s charged up, so they didn’t have to stop all day.

    • @mrmcclung
      @mrmcclung 5 років тому +1

      @@wakeupidiotsnow2611
      I used one on the job (concrete chunks and dust) only takes a minute to tap out (and maybe some fines), but once filter is a bit obstructed the fan has to work harder a the draw goes to 2-3x faster. Other than the formentioned, it was handy & sped the work up verses cords

    Dan Hurt: crevicing for gold..have afew other suggestions to try besides using the vaccum..try assembling a smaller tube to use with your vaccum pick-up nasel ( example: looks like your snifer bottle-end w/h a very long and thin hose attacted to the end.."to work those very small places in bed-rock" & second: every see a water pick for cleaning your teeth of hard to reach "Carter"..but, in this case..your after that very-fine gold that you can't see..working with your scrapping picks, small vaccum tube from a shop vac & and a 'make-shift' kind of water pick..you may remve about a 3nd. more gold..good luck..Dan..later..(Critter).

    Can't wait to see if and when you clear the boulders on the adjacent point. What appears from the bedrock cracks there should be impressive. Ty for the content.

    Thank you for your excellent series of videos Dan.
    I have a couple of questions for you if that's ok.
    Do you think that gold has been in the crevice for hundreds of years?
    or
    Do you think more will wash back in from the river again, in maybe 10 or 20 years?
