- Batman Haunted Knight by Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale is being reviewed today. This review covers the trade paperback (tpb) edition of this classic Halloween comic.
For those who loved Batman: The Long Halloween or Batman: Dark Victory comes the third collection from Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale. This time instead of a sprawling epic, we have a collection of three Batman Halloween Specials set on Halloween.
Follow Batman as he fights Scarecrow, Mad Hatter, Penguin and more!

Great job on the review man! This book is often slept on and is very underrated. I see what your saying about the difference in art style for the book. My guess is that Tim had to do an art style that was fitting for the legends of the dark knight title at the time.
Hey thank so much for stopping by and for the comment 💪
And yeah! Slept on is a great way to describe this! It’s kind of a gem and I don’t think it gets talked about enough!
Thanks again
Almost finished reading this. Awesome work by Tim Sales. RIP Tim. I loved your illustrations. I enjoy them greatly 🙏
He was a legend! Definitely a missed presence in this industry. I particularly loved his work on this book 📚
dont know if you saw but DC just released the Deluxe hardcover of Long Halloween, and is slated to release deluxe hardcovers of Dark Victory and Catwoman: When in Rome, which is apparently in the Long Halloween Continuity.
You know I heard about long Halloween but some of the rest of this is news to me!
I’m particularly excited about When in Rome! I knew it was in the continuity but never had an opportunity to pick it up. I will definitely need to keep a look out!
Thanks for the information and for stopping by! 💪👏🎉
It was cool to hear you say you’re a Christian and also see that you’re passionate about comics and making high quality reviews about them. I find Batman to be the most immersive and fascinating comic universe, but I often wonder if God disapproves. I felt some encouragement by your remark.

A great choice for Halloween! I used to have these as original special issues but unfortunately they were lost to time. I wonder how different a new printing would make the art look?
You know I’ve seen pictures and footage of newer printings and overall
I think they are improved. My trades for
These Loeb/Sale collections are on the more newspaper/matte paper and I feel like they’re almost too dark and that some of the details are a little lost or hard to pick up on.
The newer glossier prints I feel capture all the detail of Sale’s art.
I think eventually I may need to upgrade.
But that’s just me :)
Thanks for watching!!
I bet the original issues would have been something great to see
@@TheComicBookReport I have quite a few graphic novels printed on "the more newspaper/matte paper", so I know what you mean. I'm also tempted to upgrade, especially if it brings across the art better.
@@WakizashisTeahouse yeah your experience may vary. While I do prefer glossy pages sometimes the more matte is just fine. Specifically with the Batman Loeb/Sale volumes I’m considering an upgrade someday only because of how dark the shadows can be. I think you get a richer picture in the gloss or digital format
Great reading any way you can though ha :)
i just finished dark victory? should this be my next one ?
Unlike Long Halloween and Dark Victory this is not a direct sequel. But if you like Loeb/Sale this is a fun read it’s a trilogy of Halloween specials 👏🦇
This looks like a really nice trade to get for sure. Love the fact there's a Scarecrow story. I've wanted to read one of those for some time, so this might be the one to buy next in my little Batman spree. Also, i like the artstyle in the stories! :) cheers
Loeb/Sale are an iconic Batman team. This collection I’d say is very underrated!
I enjoyed all the stories, but I did particularly love how they drew Scarecrow and Mad Hatter!
Good little collection if you have an opportunity to get it at the right price :)
Thanks for watching!!
@@TheComicBookReport Haven't read anything by Loeb/Sale yet tbh but i've seen the animated batman movies based on their comics. They're really good and actually what got me into Batman recently.
Yes, i like how the depicted Scarecrow and i like that villain as well, at least in the animated stuff!
I've added this one to my i-want-it-list :D hehe cheers!
@@pixel325 if I had to pick one of the Loeb/Sale Batman works it would definitely be The Long Halloween. But all their stuff is solid.
I just finished the animated movies and really enjoyed them myself :)
Happy reading 🎉
@@TheComicBookReport I've been looking at The Long Halloween as well. Loved the animted one and thought i'd read the original story :)
The animated Batman movies are actually really awesome, most of them :) some do stick out a bit extra but they're quite solid
@@pixel325 I really agree with you here! I feel for the most part DC’s animated movies have been pretty great, particularly many of the Batman adaptations!
I thoroughly enjoyed the Long Halloween movies, even though there was some deviation from the source material. Similarly with Hush and Gotham By Gaslight..which were some others I finally got around to watching recently.
Good stuff 👏
Nice collection, I think I will get the original copy in Amazon
Yeah great book! The omnibus that collects this along with Long Halloween, Dark Victory, and Catwoman When in Rome is also a great book 📚
I reviewed it here if you want a look:

Can I read this as stand-alone story ?
Yes 👍
