Reading, a drug addiction without harm to self or others. In an increasingly noisy world, reading gives the blessed gift of silence.

@justsomeguy2142 I suppose you're a non fiction reader? Lol. The act of reading is a disciplined activity and it engages your mind in many ways. It doesn't matter what you're reading it's always going to be a lot better for you than tik tok

@@justsomeguy2142 Hey, don’t trash talk us girls reading smut 😂 Colleen Hoover, for example, (author of the book It Ends With Us that’s become a major motion picture starring Blake Lively) has explicit and mature scenes in her writing, but her stories also hold value that a reader can relate and learn from. Hell, even comic books can be relatable and have lessons for the reader

I might have missed it but you didn't mention how reading can help us find out things about ourselves we didn't know, or how it can help us to understand others by exposing us to different kinds of thinking. This can help us to empathize with those we might otherwise not have.

I've been reading scientific books and romans for quite a while. I have a small collection for now, but it's a drug! I always smell the pages of the fresh new books. When I read romans, I imagine scenes like watching a movie, and sometimes I even smell what I read. The knowledge sticks and the way they are presented in books are like a map guiding yourself in learning. It also helped approach a reader with whom I share quite the taste of books.
PS. I prefer hardcover rather than paperback, and I dislike Kindle because I like collecting books and holding them when they're brand new, even if it's expensive.

Number 14 is definitely needed in today's society. When I was younger I was in LD classes my reading ability was years behind. About 20 years ago I was in an accident that put me in a wheelchair for many months. I had watched so much TV I got sick of it and decided to read a book instead. Soon I fell in love with something I hated for so long, (reading), now I read books that are for intellectuals, like The Iliad or Dostoevsky or Pushkin, Nietzsche but I also like simple but powerful books like The Little Prince. I have a library of books. 20 so far not much but they are books I love.

Only those with coin, connections, crews, clout, computer code, control, communities, and opportunities will be able to climb up through the algorithmic jungle. That's just how it is. Marketing is all that matters in 202x. Is this sad and pathetic? *YES*. But it's what XiXiPi, TT, and other wealthy corporations wanted. Thus, so mote it be.

Once, i used to think, why Holy Bible is a big book. Now, after reading through the book once every year, i understand why The Blessed Holy Trinitarian God of The Holy Bible has given history books, poetry books, prophetic books, gospel books, acts of the Apostles, epistle books & revelation book and understand why HE has given such a great volume of books within the great Holy Book which is HIS WORD [Love Letter] to everyone of us wherein we can’t understand fully this one Book throughout this short, uncertain, temporal earthly life and pilgrimage…😊 How much we should cherish this great Book ? What a great unfathomable mystery of God Almighty ! Fully enjoyed this great video…❤

Recently, I read a book that is not in my native language. I found it really hard to understand every single word, and I had to use translation a lot while reading. It was quite complicated, but as the climax approached, I was able to read without searching for words. Although it’s tough, I'm really into it!😂

I love reading. But now I’m a very busy professional and have a family. I am lucky if I get any time to eat or sleep, let alone read. It is wall to wall responsibility at work and home, with no room to breathe. I am working hard to try to cut back on some of this so I can find time to read again. But it’s like fighting for air. I try to cut back on anything even a little bit everyone gets upset. My brain feels like it is swimming underwater and can’t even come up for air. I am keeping hope though and working on it. This pace is unsustainable.
But if you are someone who has the luxury of time to read, especially for pleasure - enjoy it! Not everyone can.

As an avid reader and family woman myself, give yourself that rejuvenating and needed healthy habit to read 30 min before family wakes up or work.
The built in routine will calm your nervous system long term and pay back dividends in your health, self development, relationships, and professional life.
I have a kiddo under 5 and I practice that foundational self care to show my little one mom/dad need to exercise our mind/body too, like 30 min to read/write, workout/eat, do a passion project while they can do independent play or join in/watch!
It can be sustainable with a little time to plan I'm advance. Parenting comes with its struggles but you can do it :) I mean we as parents are on UA-cam, we can carve out 10-15 min to read/ listen to 1 ch. of an audio book haha
It's okay to take care of you, so you be that much more present for your fam, life, and work :)

Does anyone have a video about your personal experiences reading books? Like, has anyone imitated something that was said or done in a book? Is there any comical references you've made from a book to your friends, and did they get it? Because I see a lot of videos of people talking about the benefits of reading, and how to get into "good reading habits," but never any videos about people's personal experiences with reading! What's your favorite book, and did you have any experiences in life similar to what happened in that book? :)

Paper books improving test scores and creating a tangible, emotional connection, and more, vs e devices causing sleep disturbance, eye strain, lower retention of information read, and much more.

I've never been able lose myself in a book. I'm simply unable to visualise so the words in a book are no more than simply a sequence of words making up a sentence...nothing more nothing less. This is the main reason I don't read fiction. Also as characters in fiction don't actually exist I simply don't care what happens to them as it doesn't matter. Sadly I've never read any book (fiction or non fiction) that created an emotional response in me. My wife thinks it sad that I don't enjoy reading and actually find it to be a real chore. She says that this explains why my emotional intelligence especially empathy is not very well developed.

@@Moon-qd9nrMy wife said the same thing. But I said I don't see it as such. She responded by saying response had proved her position. I said I couldn't see why. Thankfully she accepted with good grace the situation wasn't ever going to change.

I read books whenever I have some leisure. But is it acceptable to read without understanding or forget what you read as soon as your book ends?

As someone who was reading "The structure of scientific revolutions" - a geographical academic book, I assure you not many would immediately understand, just like me, that's why I try to understand what this author is trying to mean, and the new academic words are a real challenge for it

It depends on what you like. I mostly prefer older sci-fi (books written before 1980). The Foundation Trilogy (Asimov), The Robot Trilogy (Asimov), Starshiptroopers (Heinlein), The Illustrated man (short stories by Ray Bradbury), 2001: A Space Odyssey (Clark), Childhood's End (Clark), Dune (Herbert), Ender's Game (Card), The Moon is a Harsh Mistress (Heinlein), Brave New World (Huxley), The Space Trilogy (C.S. Lewis). Happy reading.

Must be nice, I read every night before bed and I suffer from alot of the things listed here that reading is said to improve. I'm reading actual books too, not comments on social media, I dont do social media at all. Just finished the 3rd book in the old mans war series, wasn't as good as the first 2 imo.
