I feel like "its really long" goes for every fight in FFXVI. I loved the combat and I loved the game but almost every fight felt like it was drawn out far more than it needed to be. I had a friend over while fighting Bahamut and at the beginning he thought it was amazing and the coolest thing he'd ever seen but 10 minutes into it he was just getting bored and disappointed 😪 you can only stay at a 10 intensity-wise for so long before it just fries your nerves and starts to get tiresome
Can't wait for the Ascension reaction. That song alone is worth 70$

Honestly FFXVI has so many incredible tracks you can check out, the floor is yours!
It's not actually a loop, despite how it sounds. During the main chorus in the second half the drums completely drop out, which doesnt happen in the first half. It syncs with the climax of the fight and let me tell you, in game, it hits :)
This score alone is why FF16 should win soundtrack of the year. SO many bangers in this game, but for an OPENING track???? This was insane

I love that this track includes elements of "Prelude" which has been used in nearly every, if not all Final Fantasy soundtracks!
Away is a gorgeous track, Masayoshi Soken is a musical genius hope you listen to more of his pieces from FF16 in future videos, especially The Riddle or Find the Flame.

In my opinion, the strings are the star of this piece, as much heavy lifting as the percussion is doing. Contextually, this is a piece that plays for a battle between two Eikons of fire. Meaning the piece is meant to evoke imagery of a raging, infernal flame. When I hear those strings going as hard and as aggressive as they do, I imagine the bows on the instruments literally catching flame from the friction. Yet even so, they maintain this sense of control and flow, making it feel sorta fluid, like a spreading/swirling flame.
To me, one of the best ways to evoke fire in music, is to have strings playing as quickly and dramatically as humanly possible. Freaking love this piece
I would love to hear more from FF16. Masayoshi Soken really cooked up a legendary OST. Theres "Away", "Titan Lost", "Heart of Stone", "All for One", "My Star", "Catacaucamene" and "Ascension". This game will definitely win Game Awards for OST/score.
Edit: The OST is like 180 tracks long and there are even more good ones.
The Riddle is worth mentioning as well!

What I especially like is how he timed the soundtracks to hit the right beats during the boss fights.
I almost suspect the music was composed first, and then the game designers matched the boss fights to the soundtrack.
cant wait for it to get robbed like xenoblade did last year tho considering game critic votes are worth 90%, and they chose GOWR over XB3 for best ost last year, i havent even played XB3 and i know that the soundtrack outclasses GOWR in every way, im kinda worried that ff will lose to whatever game the critics lhave a hard on for, so prob totk or baldurs gate 3

@@TwilitFall I know it was a great moment but I wish it wasn’t relegated to the rapid fire awards so they could throw in another sci fi shooter trailer or celebrity appearance, a lot of awards including best score did not get the spotlight they deserve

The "folks" who wrote this and a lot of things for this game also did a lot of Final Fantasy XIV, the composer being Masayoshi Soken. Soken is a legend.
The cliché quote of: "I wish to forget [insert game name] to experience it the first time again" is real with this game. I really wish to be able to experience it again for the first time. The music is a big reason why.

just came by the channel by chance. Good reviews....I just gotta say, this song literally brings a tear to my eye every time I hear it. Uematsu and Soken are truly phenomenal with their work.

Soken has been doing an amazing job with composing these soundtracks for not just FFXVI but FFXIV. I would check out Ascension from XVI as well, probably my favorite from this game.

I wholeheartedly agree seeing the full score of a complex arrangement is a magical experience. I remember how impactful it was just finding a fanmade musescore sheet for Ricordando Il Passato.
I don't have a very good ear (or equipment) for picking out individual instruments in music, especially percussion (one of the reasons I appreciate your analysis so much). But being able to isolate the presence of each intrument on the sheet changed the way that I hear that song.
I just wish those scores were more readily accessible to the laymen. Very little is available for purchase online, so I guess you need to directly contact the company or something.

Not suggesting the bahamut fight theme was a huge mistake. It's the best track in the game and it's not even close. I had to pause the game just to listen to it, I got chills so hard listening to it the first time.
If you happen to do any other ff16 tracks in the future there is a channel called Whitegame that has been uploading the tracks as well as having lyrics at the bottom if thats something you're interested in given that they can be pretty hard to understand over everything else

I'm one voice in the very loud FinalFantasy fan choir, I know, but as a pianist, drummer, and vocalist, and a lover of classical music, please... PLEASE for the love of music, Final Fantasy 9 has the ACTUAL music that not only is pretty much pure in regards to classical composition, but with unique interesting techniques you could actually get into and break down. No obnoxious grunge metal or screaming or vocals, none of that. I love one winged angel to guys, but this man is missing out on music that he would not only enjoy much more, but be able to give us actual breakdowns of the orchestra in ff9, all because of the VERY popular obnoxious FANS directing him to the most popular games, not the most musically elevated.
Please, I hope someone other than me requests ff9 tracks, ANY track. You're not alone is good, but maybe not his style. Overworked song... can't remember what it's called

FFXVI is a great game from what ive heard so far
It absolutely INFURIATES ME that games like COD and GTA make BILLIONS but Final Fantasy games don't. These games are works of f*cking ART! The TALENT behind these creations, they are instilled with passion and art and emotion and have literally impacted my life as a 13-year-old struggling with severe depression, they should be winning more awards and sales! >:(((
The Final Fantasy franchise has made 19 billion it seems. So... lol yea in fact they are in the 3 commas club.

With your focus on percussion I'd actually recommend Titan's themes over most everything else from the series. Honestly, it's not super important which, the ff14 and ff16 themes are both made by the same team and both are absolutely excellent. Ff16 would probably have better engagement, though, unless you summon the MMO hordes somehow.
Anyways. Good stuff, I always love to see final fantasy music pop up.

FFXVI is weird in that the gameplay that comes with the song is extremely simplistic. Usually, even if there's an amazing visual spectacle that goes with it, it won't necessarily "feel" good to play. But music does the heavy lifting here and makes that whole section simply astounding.
ff16 is sth else, when I recommend the game they first thing I emphasize is how great the music is.
