Bro, I've never seen 115 gr 9mm that slow. Those had to be 147 gr. And then you interpolated the numbers on the fpe for the airgun making it higher. In reality, a 9mm puts out 280-500 fpe (115 grain standard pressure averages around 325 fpe from a 4'' barrel) and that airgun is putting out 145 fpe...or about 40 fpe less than the average 380 acp or about the same as a 36 gr high velocity 22lr out of a rifle. Great vid... Thanks.

Actually, that info is all correct. Those are subsonic 9mm rounds I had forever. We needed to make it close for the entertainment value. I appreciate you watching!😉👍

Don’t forget a longer barrel for the aea will give it more fps and power .

@AirgunDetectives At 7:11 do you mean exit hole instead of "impact hole"? Cause that is not the same impact hole that was visible when you shot it.

And like the other poster pointed out, the highest fpe for the AEA was146, how did you get an 194 fpe average? What are you doing?

There is one big difference, in my country I am allowed to have the AEA or any other airgun without a permit and plink in my backyard, but not any firearm, not even a toy that looks like firearm. And if you can get a permit you are only allowed to shoot on an official range.

Good job! Air guns get my vote for shooting every day ranges are way too expensive for doing a lot of shooting.

Ola jc, I loved watching this video, an unthinkable comparison a few years ago. It's incredible to see the evolution of airguns in recent years. But as I said, they're not on the same level. Excellent and entertaining video. Have a good weekend. Cheers

Im 62 and been into airguns since my first Red Ryder around 1970 or 71 or somewhere close lol. I agree that they have advanced drastically. I remember my Marksman's and old Daisy and Crosman, Sheridan's, Benjamin's etc... the multiple pump and then the fancy co2, wow, those were awesome. Nowadays my K1 Huben, and the new GK1 and the AEA guns, FX, the new Daystate's. I could go on and on but you know...😊 great video brother

Fun and entertaining video! Thanks! And while I realize the 9mm was loaded with subsonic rounds, it is pretty amazing how far airguns have come. That AEA is a nice looking rifle. Looks like it would be pretty handy as well.

Hi Steve, Yes, those were some subsonic rounds I had left over from the department. Those are great for the urban environment. You get great knockdown power and no heavy penetration. You try to avoid a pass through in heavy populated areas. Airguns have come a long way, but they'll never achieve the major leagues. 👍🏻😉

The graphic said that 9mm air gun had an average of 194 fpe. On the Chrony test the AEA topped at 146 fpe. So how did it average 194 fpe ?

You did say "re-loads" didn't you JC? I say this because like the others, I thought that the " FPS" shown was pretty slow for a 'normal' 9mm round.
I suspect somebody loaded them to be more like the output of the air rifle/carbine.

There's no way that 9mm was shooting those lightweight 115gn slugs that slow😱 Either those were light powder hand loads or something is wrong with that chronograph, because even stock 147gn fmj's are hitting well over 1050 to 1100fps. Nice testing either way😂👍

    • @BoggWeasel
      @BoggWeasel 4 місяці тому

Commercial sub-sonic 9mm is common and very available. It's used a lot in rapid pistol shooting as the reduced recoil allows for faster reacquisition of the target and as with a lot of competition shooting, accuracy takes precedence over power. Sub-sonic ammo is usually a little cheaper too.

Amazing to see how air guns have progressed over the years, couldn't even imagine an air gun putting out that kind of power when I started out all those years ago, it was sub 12ftlb springers or nothing. I do have one concern though, while not being on the same scale as a powder burner, the lethality to humans factor is raising it's head which may lead to legislation with limitations and restrictions that warrants air guns to require some sort of governmental certificate or license when above a certain power output similar to the UK where any air gun with a power output above 12ftlbs requires a firearms certificate (license). I can't help but feel that sooner or later, things being what they are, there will be a either a lethal or serious wounding event involving an air gun and big brother along with the anti fire arms lobby will insert themselves into the sport of air gunning and it's usually never a good thing when legislating government bodies get involved with rules and regulations that end up making nobody happy. Fingers crossed and I really hope things don't go that way.

Comsider this… pcp airguns like the one you saw in;this contest have been aroumd longer than modern firearms. The first one was called the giardini and hailed from italy. It shot 45 caliber round balls at over 800 fps. I don’t know how much they weighed but the were successful in a few wars defeating armies of muzzle loaders . Also Louis snd clark took this same rifle with them on an expedition of America. So this technology has been known and used for ages… I was told that the wording used to make those initial constitutional laws explicitly is in relation with firearms and thus its extremely difficult to put restrictions on airguns with the above being factul historical events becuase it’s really hard for justify restricting them after all these years out the bllue…this is just what I’ve been told…obviously we need to keep our people involved in airgunning from behaving recklessly and drawing bad attention anyway s

Well to be honest man it’s not very fair or scientific to give the firearm the edge because you didn’t even start out with the same fps/fpe right when you did the assessment in the beginning that showed the m and p was shooting just shy of 1000 fps we knew exactly who woul win…the firearm bc a footPound of energy is going to be a footPound of energy no matter how u slice it. If I wa shooting same grain weight project tile from a sling shot at 1200 fps the damage and penetration would be given to the sling shot. The one thing that you maybe shoild have done was make sure the hollow points cavaity were similar between both weapons because obviously a differently engineeered hollow point will greatly effect the type of damage inflicted on the target …I feel like I’m stating the obvious but I don’t know…it was fun to watch the two different weapons compete tho thanks for the video
