My son planted 3 lbs of garlic one year in our lasagna bed. Every single clove he planted bulbed and several of them twinned on us. We gave away tons of garlic and had garlic for a year. Wowza!

I've always loved Muesic garlic, it is my absolute favorite here in Vermont! Wow, 5 lbs of garlic, that's a ton....I usually pick out the best garlic from the last year, and it has acclimated to our soil over the years.🌻

@@1870s one of our local homesteading friends gave us some to tryout a few years and we just keep replanting the bigger cloves and eat or give away the smaller ones. I don't know the type but I do know it is a hardneck variety.

Hey Rachel !!! Glad to see you smiling and happy in the garden :) Last year.. i planted garlic... WITHOUT READING up on it.. and went and peeled all the paper skins off. LOL Well... i did get garlic but ide say about 1/3 of them rotted and i think that was because of the paper being off. Maybe that protects them somewhat. Then the quirky weather we had. My garlic is going in tomorrow morning. So excited. Finally cleaning the plants out... LOL i have two pepper plants im trying to Over winter in the house. They are doing pretty good so far. They kinda lost some leaves but still have plenty. I guess that is normal, we shall see. I have several differnt kinds of garlic going in also> I need to make some markers i think so i know what is what.. LOL I got i think five different types of Luke over at MIgardener and then some from Spain from a local farmer that i buy from also. Excited for a better harvest next year. I also have a compost thing.. its a bit ole tree pot from landscapers. Its not huge.. but it is cool to watch the stuff break down. :) Funny though ... tomatoes started growing in it.. lol I told them to go back to bed till spring but they didnt listen LOL. Silly tomato plants. Excited to watch for your harvest next summer !!! :) God bless ya's !!!

Awesome! I just bought my garlic this morning. I remember last year all the good seed garlic was sold out and I had to resort to using supermarket garlic. I didn't really get a good yield or good bulbs. What I grew was yummy though. So now, I'm happy to be able to buy some heirloom garlic and some perennial shallots. My Ruth Stout garden was awesome this year! Everything I put in those beds grew beautifully. I expect for my garden to do even better next season. :)

Hey, Rachel, you look really nice in this outfit, love the sweater on you!
I really wanted to do garlic this year, but I don’t know if I’ll get to it, I’m so swamped with canning/drying still. I just picked probably the last of the tomatoes, peppers and tomatillos today. It’s supposed to get down to 21* tonight, brrr! I’ve had them covered for at least a week. What to do with a whole box of tomatillos?

    • @1870s

I've only make salsa with them, but last year I had so many and found out you can basically use them as a substitute for rhubarb in alot of recipes. I'll see if I can find an example for you.
