    Great job, Rachel! You are really doing a bang up job with your garden! Every year you learn a little bit more and incorporate it. You do so much better than I do, even though I’ve been gardening for decades. You are more passionate and more diligent. I love to watch you in your element! I also love your top!

    Garlic harvests are my very favorite things to watch. And potato harvests. I planted 30 bulbs of garlic this year and ended up with 6!!! Darn squirrels!! Your harvest is beautiful!!!

    • @cynthiafisher9907
      @cynthiafisher9907 3 роки тому

      Try putting chicken wire over the bed after you plant and the garlic will grow up through it, but the squirrels can’t get it. Or hardware cloth.

    Nice garlic....I feel pretty good ; I just harvested my garlic here in MN yesterday and it looks just like yours....I never fertilized it at all since I put aged chicken manure on it last fall when I planted it.
    I didn't get why you said at first that it was not the wisest choice to plant the squash where you did as you knew it would creep into the garlic and then went on to say you like doing it that way :) Seeing that is giving me lots of ideas I could try here :) Thanks!
    Oh the end when you fast forwarded picking the last of the weeds and you both walking to the house with the garlic was SO SATISFYING to see!!! Good choice!!! Now on to me watching your carrot canning video....I picked most all of my carrots this morning before the lovely rain we are finally getting today....so thankful!!! I know I will get some tips and ideas for my carrot processing :) Have a great day Rachel and Todd :)

    I pulled my garlic yesterday, on a whim.. first time ever planting it (last oct), i should’ve left some, and should’ve taken some sooner, but 90% the time seems to have been right so I’m hoping they cure ok 😬 nervous but hopeful!

      I read somewhere to wait until the scapes are pulled, leave just one to go straight upright and then they are ready to harvest. I apologize I cannot remember where I read it to attribute the credit. Indeed, it proved correct for my harvest this year.

    I have never grown garlic before and I only have a few raised beds...for now. I'd like to get a few more so I can plant some more things. I was too late in my area in Illinois to grow spinach. It was just too warm. This was the first year I couldn't grow lettuce or spinach. I went ahead and planted some spinach next to my green beans because they could give it some shade. Hopefully not too much, but the spinach has started growing I noticed. I'm still working on what else to grow in my smaller containers that nothing is in now.

    Peas are nitrogen fixers. If you cut them off instead of pull them out, you will increase the nitrogen in your soil.

    Great garlic haul! Here in NE Ohio...my hubby & son together just hung over a thousand bulbs to dry from beams in our barn...ahhh the aroma! They dug... so what is secret for no digging? We do alot of mulch w/grass clippings and lots of leaves in the fall when we plant. We don't treat our lawn. I really enjoy your videos? Blessings to you and your family 🙏
