- I talk about why I quit my job as a nursing educator and the downfalls of the current system. I also talk about nursing shortage as a whole and why I think some nursing schools aren't able to help with the nursing shortage. I really enjoyed many aspects of being a nursing educator and their are many great things about being a nurse educator. However, I'm excited to be going back to travel nursing and doing more clinical work.

The Adventure Begins
Well let's go! I'm excited!!!!!!❤❤❤❤ by the way, I'm setting up to start my pre reqs for RN...LPN is nice, but after 6 months, I see the limitation...time for ELEVATION!
I appreciate how you roll professor, and concur , unions are not always what they are cracked up to be , former union Mason,
And I'm Very Excited for the great work ahead for you, I'm partial to the psych aspect of the profession. LOVE the thought of traveling with it . Your a good man.
And thank you for your time and effort. It really shows , au revior.
What specialty do you travel for?
I'm "nomadic" as of April 8, 2019!
I left Riverside CA and I'm in Arizona now, my next move will be New Mexico after that, I'm taking (2) 24 full hours of Texas. After that....onward and upward!
@@coolcutsgal2 woohoo I'm in TEXAS north TX.
I teach clinical as an adjunct faculty. I have no advising, or meetings to deal with. Plus I am able to take the summers off. Been doing it for 12 years now. I love it. It also gives you a lot of free time to work per-diem if you would like.
Amy I'm thinking if I get back into it, that's the way I'm going.
Are there benefits to this role ?
I'm seeing this theme in nursing where people get into it because of passion, then get out of it or go somewhere else because of shortages, asking people to do far beyond what is reasonable while still doing a good/complete job, inundating the individual with more administrative responsibilities than is acceptable, no support and being stuck bridging the gap between the expectations of management and what the customer wants. ALL aspects of nursing need a HUGE overhaul if we want to be successful and taken seriously.
When they say nursing shortage they mean that there isn't 700 applicants per job opening. They also mean that they have to pay a decent wage and actually show their nurses some respect. What they want is to pay nurses a dollar more than CNAs and treat them like convicts.
❤❤❤❤
Depends on what your goals are, instructors are just as necessary as care nurses. Whats unfortunate is how disconnected faculty can be from the work nurse educators do. Faculty (Ph.D., DNP., Ed.D), clinical instructors/educators (MSN) and care nurses (BSN, BSc or ADN) are all interdependent on one another. I understand your decision process and such a move is a personal decision, however I think we need to work on unifying all strata of nurses.
Thanks for using your platform to share your experience and start a talking point. Much success!!!
Thanks Dwayne! That's really good points! Sometimes I think we all forget that we're all on the same team!!
Welcome back😊 I tried to go back staff for about 2 months and the road started calling me back out. Look forward to seeing some travel videos! Safe travels!
Thank you! I'm so excited to get back out on the road.
Love the new youtube name. I'm glad you are doing what you want to do! Looking forward for more great videos!
Thank you! I feel like i'm starting to kinda hit the stride
Whaaat??!! No way! You looked like you really enjoyed being a nurse educator, but I guess you can still teach in the hospital being a preceptor.
Excited for your new journey, Santa Fe sounds cool!
When I’m not studying I love to catch up on your videos. Sorry to heard you left teaching, but so good to hear that you’ll be doing travel nurse again. This video was spot on about the nursing shortage. Once I finish school and put in my time. I plan to do travel nursing as well. Thanks for keeping us posted.
Thank you! I'm so glad you enjoy catching up. That's what I love to hear! Just makes me glad to know people get something from them 🙂
In our nursing program, we have had 2/4 class instructors leave while I have been in the program alone. We have also absorbed another campus class into ours because they lost all of their instructors that quit. When are these colleges gonna wake up and see that the old way of doing things isn't always the correct way?!
You know higher education in general is so far behind in many ways. It gets frustrating
Thanks for your input...I am half way through to completing my MSN in education. I've been a nurse for many many years & I'm excited to give back & share my knowledge to new nurses. I really enjoy being a nurse & I love to be at the bedside......Hoping that I can get a clinical nurse educator job. I currently live in NYC, but I am willing to move anywhere for this.....P.S......I loved being a traveler ....so much fun...you have inspired me ...lol...all the best to you !!
Thank you so much for the video. This is unfortunately very very common. Good luck to you in the future.
You are so adorable. You have inspire me at my age to get back into the medical field.THANK YOU NOMAD! You rock! I start school in July!.
I don’t think that A&P & Microbiology should be critical thinking based just because there are other majors like dental hygiene, PTA, surgical tech that have to take those classes as well. I do think that there should be an independent critical thinking prerequisite(s) for only pre-nursing students and it should be a mandatory prerequisite.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Needless to say, Crosby I understand the reasons why you resign your position as a Nursing Professor & Nursing student mentor. Wishing you all of the blessings that you deserve in whatever you decide to do, which I have no doubt that it will be awesome as I look forward to for your future videos................... Abrazos
So excited!
Me too! It's gonna be a fun summer
During pre reqs, I had an amazing A and P professor who instilled the importance of critical thinking within his curriculum. Each of our test question possessed correct answers, but one was more correct. He also staged the questions in a way that if you didn't read carefully or follow directions, your answer would be wrong. He was amazing; definitely contributed to my 90 on the TEAS. My nursing school also mandates all potentials to take the CCTST (California Critial Thinking Skills Test), to reject those who do not possess adequate CTS.
Couldn’t agree more, the nursing school process really needs reworking. Every teacher that is honest says the same thing. Like you said too many issues to list. From what I see it sort of becomes passing students no matter what so that the schools can keep their accreditation and get those checks. I also think for the amount we students pay we get a serious lack of supplies and lab time to try things like IVs and needle skills. So my money doesn’t go to my benefit, it doesn’t seem to be paying the instructors and keeping them employed, so all that tuition money is lining the wrong pockets in my mind. Just my thoughts. I spent a little time in Santa Fe and it’s beautiful! Look forward to future content!
Paul you are 100% correct. I could say it all again, but you hit the nail on the head!
Thanks for the insight!
Thanks for some insight! I always wondered why instructors didn't stay long. gotta do what makes you happiest! What is the song called at the end of the video? 👽
It's by Andrew Applepie and I believe it's called Cassette Love
Congratulations! I've had instructors mention their former employers are always attempting to recruit them due to the shortage
Thank you!
I’m ready for the traveling videos again.
Me too LOL
very interesting... I was considering a job as a nursing educator.... I think the critical thinking skills goes as far back as elementary school and nursing experiene, students are coming from different educational backgrounds. I hope my lpn background experience will help me with the critical thinking area of nursing school
I would def still consider a career in nursing education. I was just talking about the overall issues. We need good nurse educators and critical thinkers
Interesting video. Good luck 👍🏼
Thank you!
good video on keeping it real
Hi nomad nurse! Do i need to have an MSN before i become a nurse educator? I am an RN but I have M.A in Education.
Yes you do. A masters in education( is general and not in anyway nursing related)wont stand in for a masters in nursing education(streamlined towards nursing).
There will always be a shortage of staff nurses and nursing educators. It’s a systemic issue it seems.
Yeah I think it is
But let’s not think that way. We need teachers every time. 🙏🏻
5:04 Crosby's face, "I am part of that statistic now" 🤣🤣🤣
😂😂😂
Keep up the good fight man!
You know it!! Thank you
Do you need MSN in education to teach nursing courses or can you have Masters in Education
You need an RN education/license
Are there travel opportunities for LTC?
Absolutely!!
Is there something you could recommend a nursing student to do to build critical thinking skills, outside of school? Like maybe something available online or in a book?
Monica Erwin yeaa good question
Monica Erwin I was gonna ask the same thing It has become difficult to put the pieces of the puzzle together
I suggest while you are in nursing school just do NCLEX questions daily and read the rationales behind it to understand where the thinking is coming to get to the answer. This may help with critical thinking and importantly with the NCLEX. When you become a nurse and you actually see what’s in play is where you will start really learning how to critically think.
So basically what ER Nurse & Gamer said. I always recommend going to a bookstore and practicing questions in the bookstore because you don't have to actually buy the books LOL but you can study and drink coffee in there.
How do we as students applying to a nursing school should look at in terms of the educational system ? Because having heard from you right now how this educational systems do not prepared well their students , what can we do us as students?
So it's not all completely bad, but therre are some issues that I don't like. If I were you I would start practicing some critical thinking and NCLEX style questions
OHHHHHHHHHHHHHH MAN!! HECK YA Brother, Finally you're back!
👈😁👉
I'm begging you, literally begging you to PLEASE do travel nursing vlogs like you used to. Like the epic vlogs of Hawaii. I used to watch those vids and think "that'll be me one day". I'm so happy for you bro, this was a GREAT move (and I'm happy for me cuz of great content lol)
That's for sure coming back!! Probably 75% of them will be like that!
@@CrosbyTheNomadNurse OHHHHH MY GOD!! I can't wait!
Very Casey Neistat intro I enjoy it 😄
Also, that would explain why in my college they sometimes say that there isn’t enough instructors or why some students have to wait another year to begin the program.
There is a lot of truth in what you say because when I took pharmacology (I’m still working on pre-reques) there was a lot of critical thinking questions and that’s why more than half the class dropped out because it was difficult to learn the material in the first place and if we wouldn’t understand the concepts it was almost impossible to apply it to real life scenarios.
The teacher would ask a question and a lot of us just had blank faces because we were taught to pass standardized testing all through high school rather than understanding why this information is important in the first place and if it doesn’t click then it’s all a waist of time.
I mean I’m the first to admit that I suck at lectures and critical thinking because we never discussed the learning or was taught hands on.
Def Casey Neistat influence. He's one of the reasons I started (Like millions of others LOL)
Talking about the critical thinking. It's something that should be slowly started in pre-reqs and that way there isn't as much of a learning curve. Many times the people making nursing style questions are confusing critical thinking with VAGUE/SUBJECTIVE and there is huge difference.
The Nomad Nurse yeah that would make life a lot easier 😂 if they could teach us how to become critical thinkers. Also yeah I’ve been wanting to start a YT channel too. (Lol but I’m geeking out that a UA-camr is replying my comments)
LOL You should start one! I always try to respond to all my comments in some way. I usually sit down for 30 min or so a couple times a week and respond to everyone. I also really take the time to read them all and actually respond in the right way. It's respect for my viewers.
They're not their in video caption.
What's no tin the caption?
Hehe
"I really enjoyed many aspects of being a nursing educator and their are many great things about being a nurse educator."
Truthfully so, if I had a nursing educator like you lecturing in class I wouldn't have paid attention cause you're too handsome. I probably still would have attended every lecture too lol. Finishing up in 3 weeks woohoo, lots of love from Los Angeles! @@CrosbyTheNomadNurse
isisbenny404 *there
Huh!!!!. I IMMEDIATELY pressed PLAY😔
LOL
Whaaaat 😱🤯
LOL
So sorry that another one bites the dust. Lots of problems in nursing ed, but seems like everywhere in nursing.
The hot nurse instead of The Nomad Nurse
I bet there will be a shortage for nurses every time, but we need teachers to make others become teachers! I read an article that because of physician shortage, nurse practitioners are very important. Still, all medical practitioners are a team. We need teachers. You need to be in politics. Just because of this lack critical thinking skill, you need to stay. Please. Everyone needs you.
I am a CNA and I feel you. As a cna, my critical thinking I think has being maturing. So we students are smart, just need a push forward. :-)
Thankfully you’ve left teaching. Clearly you were not dedicated, nor was it your calling. The video has a lot of “I’s” and this is indeed indicative of nomadic behavior not team oriented. You said a lot to in fact not say much at all. There is a nursing shortage and nursing educator shortage ~ and perhaps modifications of curriculums are needed along with developing critical thinking skills but leaving because they exist is why I say what I do. Good luck.
Thank you. Yeah I don’t like getting paid low wages, decided to take risk and start my own business and it’s exploded more than I could’ve imagined, thanks for watching.
Post like this might make you not hirable if you look for another nurse educator job.
