    I give a breakdown of the current cost of living in Vietnam (2022) taking a look at things such as accommodation, food and day to day expenses. Prices are rising in Vietnam due to inflationary pressure and world events, but i still think it's a country that provides good value for money. Whether you're on a budget or like to splurge, Vietnam caters for all types of spenders.
    $1 = 23100 vnd at time of writing.

    Here in Thailand....never want western food so that's ok! Jog & exercise outside for free, where heat adds to calorie loss so that's ok! water price is 10-15 + drinking water electricity has just near doubled from 1300-2650 Baht which is a bummer! live in my house that I had built with last money in NE Thai countryside.! Don't drink much don't smoke, never go out except to Tesco or jog lake. Live on $500 a month!

    • @expatnam
      @expatnam  2 роки тому +4

      That's certainly doable here and you could probably do it for less than that in Vietnam if you were to live in the countryside. Problem is most of the work is in the cities here and local prices are much higher in the cities. I smaller city like Da Nang in central Vietnam would be a good compromise i think.

    Why are driving at the beach? There is no beach in HCMC!
    This is definitely NOT HCMC!
    The city is not typical Vietnam because it’s the most expensive city by far.
    In Da Nang, also a big city, you pay half price for an apartment with sea view
    And if you want to live on a budget move to the countryside and not in HCMC

  • @hoodhunter3262
    @hoodhunter3262 Рік тому

    yea I agreed with the rest, you should edit and remove the beach scenes. There are no such beach within 50 miles of Saigon. That scene is likely to be Mui Ne or closer to CamgRung/Nha Trang.

    I am from Slovakia, living in Iceland. I dont understand, why every video about "cheap" vietnam is so expensive? ICELAND is one of the most expensive countries in the world.. i am paying 1000 usd/ month for everything: accomodation ( city center - 2 rooms), food for a month, travel, shopping,cooking.. I snack alot ...
    Average income is around 5500 usd/ month.. as in a Vietnam it is 150 usd/ month..I would expect monthly expenses to be around 200 usd/ month.. noth 1000 usd as in Iceland...

      This kind of cost of living breakdown is aimed more at budget minded expats/foreigners-you sure can live for 300$ or so a month here but it won't be particularly fun. One of the biggest costs here is accommodation, it's very overpriced for what you get imo. I could easily pay the same as the UK for an apartment and it wouldn't be as good quality as a western built unit.

      So if you're employed here you will get social insurance from the government that you can use at certain hospitals. Also many jobs will give you private insurance as well, which is normally better coverage. I'm planning to do a video on healthcare costs soon.

    In restaurants, how do we ask that we only want a meat dish, and not the organs or other parts? I mean, to my understanding veg restaurants have a term called chay. Is there a polite term for "I dont want other parts of an animal?

    • @expatnam
      @expatnam  2 роки тому +3

      Yes, 'an chay' means vegetarian so look for those words or say that if you don't want any meat. That's actually quite a tricky request-i tend to stick to dishes like "pho" as that's just lean beef in vegetables. "Bo luc lac" is also a great dish, just lean beef, vegetables in a nice savoury sauce. I'll have to get some food videos done soon!

    You mention living in "good" area. I'm curious what that means exactly. In the U.S. that would mean a low crime area & aesthetically more attractive, but in Vietnam I think that term has completely different connotation. Access to stores, closer to public transportation... what's it mean to you? Good video!

    • @expatnam
      @expatnam  Рік тому +1

      It's pretty subjective i suppose, but for me it would be easy access to supermarkets & decent restaurants, slightly quieter traffic and not in the middle of nowhere. For most foreigners (but not all) this tends to be D2/D7 & D1.
