I built it today but used pool noodles on the rails instead of carpet. I made the bottom 7 feet long and the top rails I made 8 feet long. I didn’t have access to a carpet remnant. It works so well!!! Thanks for the design and cut list!
Great build video. Made mine 10" taller (Gets the kayak closer to the truck tailgate) and 12" longer (cart is 7' long and carpet runners are 8' long). Most expensive parts were the locking wheels. Mounted pegboard on the backside to hang paddles, equipment, etc. Rolls like a dream. Now all I have to do is paint it.
There are no words to express how grateful I am that you made this video. I made it and LOVE it! 👍😃Not only is it great for storage, but it’s a million times easier to load and unload my kayak on my truck and my new kayak trailer. Thank you. 👍😎🎣🐟💦
I used 3 inch pvc instead of 2x4 and solid bottom. Works very well and bigger wheels a must. Also mounted pvc on my rhino rack and very secure platform for my outback. Tip. For outback , 11 inch center.
Great video! I was going to design my own but your template was perfect! I made mind a little taller and added 1/2" plywood I had laying around to the base. I don't have a lot of space in my garage so it was added storage for me. Thanks for sharing your design!
Thanks for the video and instructions. Built this today and it turned out great. Fits my Old Town Salty PDL perfect and I can even store my truck bed extender underneath.
Made mine today using your plan. The only thing I changed was adding another 21.5 inch 2x4 to the casters row to add some more height. I have a 4x4 and its pretty high up. Otherwise it works perfect on the Old Town 132 Bigwater. I can even put the PDL drive in and lower it making working on the drive possible. Awesome design. I figured I put a total of $65 into making it. Thank you!
This thing is great. I finally made one for my Lure 11.5. Had to modify the dimensions, but it turned out great. I have it set to the height of my truck bed. Super easy load and offload. Thanks for posting this great idea.
I’ve built a cart myself as well. One thing I may do is add lockable wheels. When I’m loading my yak back onto the cart from my truck the cart tends to move away from me. Something you may want to consider.
Thanks for the video . Made one today using your measurements for my oldtown topwater pdl. Works great but if anyone else makes one for this model an inch narrower would have been perfect. I narrowed it a touch with the center brace . Very happy will be perfect for installing my boonedox landing gear.
Made this one for the Bigwater 132. The channels were close enough with his plan for me. I did add some height so loading my 4x4 was easier. I love how I can put the PDL drive in and run the pedals. No prop contact.
Thank you for this video. I finally made my cart and I based it on this design. I made my cart 1 foot longer and kept the rest of the dimensions the same. In hindsight, I would have used a match larger wood for the bottom where the caster wheels screws into. The 2x4 was a bit small for my 3-inch caster wheels from Lowe’s. I suggest for someone to do this same build, buy the wood at same time as the caster wheels and see how much room you have when you screw the caster wheels to the wood. I used lag nuts and pre-drilled the holes for the caster wheels. Also it’s best if you have two drills (1-for drill bit, and the 2nd to screw in the screws). All in all I like this design. Now Waiting for my yak. Thank you again for your videos.
Thanks for the build information! I built one this past weekend and it's perfect for my 2020 Outback. Perfect for working on the kayak and makes it a breeze to load into my truck.
@vtseller How are the measurements holding up for your Outback long term? I have the same year, and decided to double check the comments to see if other Outback owners made any adjustments to the plans. I also bought everything today to build, so I'm anxious to get it done!
I just built mine last night. Took almost 7 pieces for 2x4x8. I had to tweak it a lil for my Ascend 133x and figure out where some of the cuts went but great video man! Cant wait to install my casters hopefully tomorrow the. I can finally start the build!
I think am going to build one but I will only put wheels on one end and a skid on the other end so it doesn't roll away on my sloped driveway. A buckle strap will hold the lifting end down and should be much effort to lift one end and roll.
I don't have space inside for my 2 kayaks and plan to build some type of wooden structure in my backyard. It wood be cool if I could add caster wheels to the structure for maneuverability. But not sure if there are any casters in the market that are suitable for permanent use outdoors and exposed to rain and the weather?
Nice design, I like the simplicity. I live on a canal and sometimes I launch mine off of the seawall, have you found any easy way to get it onto the ground from the cart w/o the help of another person?
I shortened this by 1 inch on the width and substituted carpet for a pool noodle I split longways that hugs the rail. A little more cushion for it to rest in. This cart makes life so much easier! I literally back my truck up, slide it off the hitch extender on to this and roll it away. Thanks!
Any idea if it would be possible to make it so that the T-shaped supports can be removed/re-attached so that the cart can be taken apart when not in use?
Took your exact cuts. Added 2 extra 5' boards to bring the cart up and nice wheels. It came out amazing! I plan to wash my kayak on the stand after use in the salt.. have you had to replace your carpeting material at all? I'm sure I'll need to from the salt wash off and possible collection of water! What's your take on this?
I use my Hobie cart, when I float up to the ramp I install my cart under my kayak. Then I pull it to my truck and set the nose on my tailgate. Then I just pick up the back of the kayak and slid it in. It’s really simple. If you watch my last video ua-cam.com/video/WUYD9C9ViMo/v-deo.html In the beginning I show myself unloading it, it’s just the reverse of that 👍🏼🎣
Nice build here!! This would definitely make things easier lol Quick questions: 1) What were all the cuts you made? Couldn’t find it on your Kit site. It may be there but I probably overlooked it. 2) Think it’s wide enough for a Sea Ghost 130? 3) Did you eventually add plywood to the bottom for a flooring to use as storage?
Very good design I suggest decking the bottom for additional storage when you have to take off anything off the kayak to work on it would probably be 👍 but you did a great job!
Hey I really enjoy your videos. I'm just getting into kayak fishing. I know this video is 3 years old but the blue lights that were on your kayak what were they and you had them wired to a switch? I have the pelican catch pwr 100 and theres not alot of storage to drill holes and get to wires. Any suggestions are welcome
Great cart build I’m in the process of doing one now. Did you already mention how high it is from the ground, I may have missed that? Trying to compare to the height of my truck bed, I wanna slide in/out with as little effort as possible. Love your attention to detail.
Nice project. Can you leave a kayak laying on top of that folding table you had it on outside in the sun covered if you don’t have a garage or would the kayak warp. ?

I hear ya trade! 😜 I decided to compromise and go 6’6” and 5’6”. I think it’s gonna be just right. I also am gonna make it a little taller since my tailgate’s 36” from the floor. Gonna increase the 14” supports to 26”. With 5.5” casters that should get me right. Thanks again!
I am looking to build a cart soon and was wondering after having this one a year, has it sagged in the middle at all? I was debating if I needed to add two more wheels. I just bought a Big Fish 108 and it is close to 150lbs fully loaded. Thanks in advance for the info, I am now a subscriber!
I gotta build me one of these. I have about a half mile walk to my pond and that green C-Tug cart just doesn't work. The strap doesn't stay put and the wheels slide out from under the bottom of the kayak. A good kayak cart is hard to find. A steerable kayak cart with four wheels is impossible to find. I'm gonna add some eye-bolts to the bottom boards for tie-down straps because my hike to the pond is pretty bumpy.

What wood did you choose for making g this cart? I love the design and I’m looking to build this exactly. Also after use how is the cart/kayak holding up? IE, weight distribution of the kayak
Great Video!! The measurements you put at the end are to put the runners at 12” on center correct? My Hobie 2021 PA 14 and Outback both measure 11” on center. Is their a reason you did 12” instead of 11”?
Most kayaks are 12” but you are correct my Hobie is 11” but it still slides ride on because the edges of the 2x4 is narrow. This way I can use the cart for any kayak. 🤙🏼
Will this cart and measurements work with a hobie mirage pro angler 12 360 2020 because I would like to build it before I get my kayak so that I can move it around right away?
Too bad you didn't show us how well it works loading and unloading from the cart into your pickup truck. I would like to have seen that in the video. Otherwise good job. I have been contemplating building a similar cart. I was considering using 1/2" pipe for the structure but wood seems to be much cheaper.
I built it today but used pool noodles on the rails instead of carpet. I made the bottom 7 feet long and the top rails I made 8 feet long. I didn’t have access to a carpet remnant. It works so well!!! Thanks for the design and cut list!
That is awesome! Thanks for watching!!
Just finished mine. Thank you for the video. I used all spare 2x4s around the house. Turned out great!

Mounted pegboard on the backside to hang paddles, equipment, etc. Rolls like a dream. Now all I have to do is paint it.
Taller is a good idea. Wish I had done that. Would make it easier to get it in and out of the truck bed.

You could save money at Harbor Freight by buying a moving dolly on sale or with a coupon. Just remove and reuse the casters and bolts.
I used 3 inch pvc instead of 2x4 and solid bottom. Works very well and bigger wheels a must. Also mounted pvc on my rhino rack and very secure platform for my outback. Tip. For outback , 11 inch center.

Hi Jay. Sounds awesome. Can you share any pics of your build? And/Or the dimensions?

Thanks for the video and instructions. Built this today and it turned out great. Fits my Old Town Salty PDL perfect and I can even store my truck bed extender underneath.
I just finished my cart on wheels today and can load kayak to it alone effortlessly
Heck yeah!! 👍🏼
I just built this and it fits my Old Town Salty perfectly. However I think if I were to do it again I might make it 6 inches taller.
Just made this and it came out pretty solid! I have a big water 132. Thanks for the help.
You should build a stand for your miter saw.
Im not much of a carpenter BUT I think I could build this!! YAY! THANK U SO MUCH!

Great video. I’m actually thinking of making two of these for outdoors. Plus you can mount the paddle and stake out pole on the side of the cart.
Love it Thankyou!
Just completed mine. Gonna add carpet and decking to the bottom later
Great build, I can see this used on almost any kayak. Stuck inside has it's advantages. Stay safe.
Thanks Russell for this simple to follow build. Keep up the great work

I need something similar but perhaps with under storages with concealed rod holders.
