Short attack smooths the transients. Long attack lets the pass and compressing the “body” of the sound. You want an aggressive vocal do a slower attack and if you want to smooth it out a bit start shorting it up. The faster attack will help push the vocal back in the mix. Same thing with drums. Want that punch dont have too fast of an attack. Release is all about the music feel. Make that meter pump with the music if that makes sense. All to taste. Thats also were your clipper would come in for drums ya know get spanky
If you make your attack and release short enough you start manipulating the individual wave cycles though, which could give you an arguably more aggressive sound 🤷♂️
Appreciation note here.. Im a Drum and bass producer from Australia and I find myself watching your guys tutorials more and more. Having not just one but 2 guys share their views on production is amazing, in this vid 3.. keep the nuggs A-coming.... Legends!!
You guys are truly the GOATS forever!! Everyone sees compression they’re on way but it’s great to hear the 3 of your own takes.. gonna help me a lot broskis bout to take them Nugs and hopefully make a banger!!
Big up really helpful for the project next year will be a big year for me as my mum passed away and caring for her was really hard and my production took a big hit thankyou all for the luv and i am always learning and will to try harder keep banging out the tune guys peace and love for 2022 big up!!!
I feel you man. My mom passed away 2 years ago and I know how hard that is. Keep producing as I am sure that is what she would want you to do my man. Thanks for the love
If you highlight the midi track hover your mouse over it and press shift as you click it, you can drag it onto an audio clip below it so you don’t have to wait for it to record. Idk if y’all knew that knug but it’s dank af def recommend
This is my first time ever commenting on your videos and wanted to thank you so much for everything ya'll do for us! Also thank you for having JOKR, I learned so much!
yooooo just wanted to let you know that you deserve everything you get! Thank you so much for your packs! When I start working more, will be supporting the patreon! Hopefully someday will be on the show.
Dudes, super stoked on the information. I have been having a hard time wrapping my head around compression but you guys described it pretty well and I have noticed the difference in my mix. I know I might be jumping my own gun but do you guys know of any good resources for how to do side chaining? I know what it is, but I don't really know how I can properly set it up. Happy New Year, keep kicking ass!
I heard somewhere that, attack time is not when it start compressing, it is how much time it takes from when the threshold hit until full compression. I could be wrong tho, it just out of memory
You are correct, usually compression is most audibly noticeable at full compression though, so some people just say when it starts compressing. However to trained ears you can hear the compression before it reaches full compression, so you’re technically correct. Important stipulation.
I'm one o' dem bois that needed this as someone that knows fuckall about compression cause in all the videos I've seen about it everyone uses it differently and have their own opinion, leaving me confused about how to actually use it. Haven't been on this channel in a very long time and I'm glad for that cause now I can binge watch your tutorials heheheee. Edit: Also, what do you guys think about StandardCLIP by SIR Audio Tools?
Currently each of my drums/perc are all in individual audio tracks. Should they all be in one? Should I put them into one and then compress? Should I leave kick and snare out of that and compress them individually?
can you guys please make a video about how to turn normal vocals into deep house vocals (like the ones in WHTKD - Say To Me), I feel like it's a pretty simple technique but I can't figure out pitch my normal bad vocals to make them sound good, please help!
whats the attack on the soundpack. ratio set at 1:32 as of rn. i got click baited comment baited nugg faded and even contemplated cuz if nobody kno how to use a compressor bring back the white noise boomer tricks cuz im nobody asf without my boomer ass dad. say wut
You guys need to SUPERBAND (superproduce just sounds trash) maybe Danniegio Parker? Idk the name needs work.. but you guys could smash an EP and maybe DEADMAU5 tha Karen would sign you??
Thanks for having me on! Always down to drop some Knugs of Knodge. 🔥
Love you bro. You family, thanks for coming on! Side Note you are disqualified from winning the most liked comment lol.

Very nice sausages boys! Merry chrystler!
Sick remix. Love that preset. Props for going over a topic that can’t be gone over enough.

Yo this is one of the best explanations of compression I've seen. I appreciate the takes into the individual settings workflow

Big Remix Energy
Those were some very compressed, sticky and dank nugs of knodge my friends. Let's hit 69k subs by 2022. Godspeed brethren
PS I finally know how to use a compressor after 7 years. Thank you
Nice! Let’s hit. 69420
@@dferrare12345 bout time tbh
Attack gives you more transient,
Sustain/Release gives you more body.

Merry Christmas Bros! I wish you guys and all your subscribers a safe and joyful holiday, God Bless.

We need joker Kapsize in here one of these days in here
A wise man once said: "you can't compress a square wave".
My mind went 🤯
Currently each of my drums/perc are all in individual audio tracks. Should they all be in one? Should I put them into one and then compress? Should I leave kick and snare out of that and compress them individually?
