Fresh out of college with my first professional job making roughly about $52k a year. I will not mention the company. After 3 years of working at that company, I was told on a Wednesday that Friday will be my last day. I schedule a meeting with my manager and HR and they. gave me no reason about letting me go. It all came down to the company was downsizing. From that day forward, I never gave a company a two weeks notice. Never. Why would I give you more time to find a replacement and you're not willing to give me more time until I find a new job.
Even worse is when they DO tell you you’re company is downsizing refuse to give you an exact date, then beat around the push until you quit so they don’t have to give you a severance and say they fired you
I don't know what industry you're in, but consider that two weeks notice is a courtesy you give that reflects well on you as an individual. Don't be like a company, companies suck.

Are they going to give you two weeks notice before firing you? Really glad I watched this, was about to give notice by email and my email was definitely not positive enough. I think in person, simple and positive is so much better. Thanks
I work casually on weekends at a party hire company and I’m considering quitting. I’ve worked there for almost a year and it’s been an amazing opportunity. My boss is wonderful and the company is warm. However, I just don’t have much free time anymore and I recently got a new job throughout the weekdays. The job is a receptionist role, and I’m passionate about customer service, and I’ve had a change of heart. I don’t know what to do. I feel like it’ll be a burden for my boss to find a new employee and train them
I’m considering quitting Walmart without a 2 week notice possibly but I want to do it in a professional way like you showed. Whenever I get in a new job, hopefully this helps :)
My job is killer, but I'm working on my business full time. I'm stating my resignation today and I'm still super nervous, even with my boss being a good friend. Here we go!
I like it on how indeeds own reviewing system won't let you write an HONEST review about a company, even though it constantly asks for you to wite one.
After reading a bunch of comments I'm just throw this out there but the 2 week rule is if you DON'T want to burn bridges and screw over your coworkers. If it's a terrible work environment with awful people then feel free to walk away as you see fit. Hand in 2 weeks If you potentially want references, or to refer a friend for a position, or possibly a backup job in case the new place doesn't work out and you know the old place will welcome you back with open arms.
Sucks how it's better if you give a 2 week notice but when they fire you there's no 2 week notice. It would be nice if I got a 2 week notice so I can look for a new job.
My position is as an at will employee I don’t owe my company anything if I’m resigning and they don’t owe me anything if they let me go. I’ve seen people fired for giving two weeks. Sometimes it happens often.
I applied last week, was offered a job the next day and the e-mail said: "don't quit your job if you are working". The next two days I completed the background check, physical and four days later was sent an email to report the next day. The problem is I was never given the chance to give notice and thus I won't be able to take the new job. I just can't call in and say "I quit".
F--ck two weeks notice. I used to work in HR and it doesn’t affect the company even if you quit the morning of your shift. In fact I had more respect for people who got that fed up that they did tht
What about a hand over of work for your current employer and the likelihood you won’t get a reference if you just quit on the spot. No longer you didn’t last in HR with an attitude like that
I just got hired into this new role, it’s all new to me and everyone is really helping me out to get settled. It’s been three weeks since I got hired. But I have just been offered a better deal, and a better pay, I am currently working 3 days a week and this is a full time job opportunity. I don’t know what to say in my two weeks notice, I feel like I am letting them down and they are super busy right now, finding someone new will be a pull on them. But at the same time I need to go because this new opportunity is exactly what I’ve been looking for. I don’t know how to go about it
I feel the same way! In march of this year I started a new job at my local Mercedes dealer as a service valet and I feel the same way, because the dealership is so crazy busy with all the service cars coming and some of my coworkers are good people but I just can’t take this job anymore! And plus my other job the parks department is hiring again which I liked working with them. It’s so hard to choose, but I put in my 2 weeks notice and a lot of weight has gone off my shoulders.
It’s good that you’re considerate to your co-workers, but it’s also important to think about yourself. I’ve spent so much time thinking about other people and how me quitting would affect them, that I forgot to think about myself entirely.
@@Brendenmaximin I can’t say for everyone but in my branch we were only allowed to eat set meals during our lunch breaks. Anything else we had to pay for.

I’ve seen to many people get fired and walked out when they give notice. I base on giving notice depending how on the company treats me. If you get a bad receive simple confirm it with a reference checking firm, send off a ceise and desist from a company. Problem solved.
Had the amazing combination of a remote company and my manager being on leave the last few days. Can't tell them in person, can't have a meeting with them. Will just have to wait till theyre back and see what they say.
My job that promised me higher education decided that i "wasn't ready yet". And i just didn't want to wait another year to see if i was capable. So im planning to formally quit my job to join another school.
I think it's funny that a company that makes their living advertising for companies that are CONSTANTLY turning over their workforce is trying to tell me how to quit a job.
Do you have any tips for employers who are being totally unprofessional after handing your notice? My senior management are barley speaking to me and when they do, it’s only to be demeaning. When I handed my notice, all they said was ‘I hope you don’t do as much damage to your next company as you’ve done to mine’…
Feeling very anxious about my two weeks notice. I love the company I'm working for, not so fond of management and the lack there of. Coming from 0 experience this company took me in and taught me so much and leaving them in their darkest hour has me feeling guilty almost. But I need to this for my own personal gain in my career.
It’s unfortunate that this happens, but if that’s how they’re going to treat someone, then it’s probably for the better that you did resign. When I put my two weeks in at my first job, everyone was giving me the silent treatment. After a couple years, they’ve still had trouble filling my position and realized that I was helping way more than what I was being paid for. And now they beg me to come back, like, gee, maybe you guys should have thought long-term, instead of in the moment when you tried to pretend I didn’t exist.
I hate it here. this place sucks. lol That was unexpected. The problem is the next place might be worse. Make sure you go someplace that will give you a chance to upgrade yourself. One day we will find that sweet job as long as we keep improving.
Ive seen many temps and employees let go literally hours before they clock in. And we gotta give companies “plenty of time”….. so they can quickly get someone to replace them.
We had a guy give 2 weeks notice but because he was causal our HR only allowed him to work for 1 week despite desperately needing his services post lockdown. Crazy how self serving all facets of business have become. Quit like a boss - send your letter and move on. Don’t give any of your learned traits away ever then get them to hire you as a consultant on much higher pay 💁♂️
I have a huge dilemma, I just got my first job two weeks ago and I will not mention the company but it’s a children entertain entity. I’m 16 and they expect me to work shifts from 6pm to 11pm, which for some people is fine but I have no way of getting home other than public transportation and as you can guess it’s the nog the safest/reliable at that time of day. I wanna speak to my manager about it and tell her that I can’t continue to work there if my hours are that late. What should I say?
You could say basically just that - You are concerned for your safety getting home at night, and while you would like to continue working there, you feel you would be unable to do so working your current hours. -CC
Wanna put mine in today I feel completely bad because I know he needs people but I have kids and I have no one to watch them during the day so I need to leave to be able to make sure my kids are taken care of, honestly doubt my boss will take it as well as the one in the video

We had 2 rounds of cuts. We went from a small 50 people start up to just 6! I organically took on 4 new roles and have been doing it for 1 year now. I was offered a dream job and took it. I know when I resign, it may end up in the company closing 😢 But I have kids and other things to consider. Not to mention the lack of professionalism and toxic people who have stayed. Its not easy but you have to pull the bandage. 1 suggestion! Overly nice to everyone!!!!!!! It is so true that you will or may run into them down the line. My dream job was offered to me by a previous manager I had. She told me that no matter where she ends up she wants me on her team. She become director of marketing and made me Team Lead of 10 people.
I want to share something. I feel like I want to resign but I feel like there is no such a desire to start. Idk where to go. I dont seek new opportunities. If i could be honest I overwork, dont get paid enough, etc. I work in start up company. Which start up don't have enough cashflow to provide a lot of employee. The salary increment ain't enough. Too low for someone who've been working this far. No bonuses. I feel like I'm valuable but in the same time I feel not appreciated. It makes me undervalued myself and lack of confidence to start a new journey. Should I leave or stay? I'm 28. Been in this industry for almost 4 years. Using incognito accounts bcs I don't want to be mean to my current company. I grew alot but i feel like I could spread my wings wider in somewhere but not here anymore. An also I've thrived my company a lot. I dont like to get some credits. Bcs I'm result oriented. In the end I've finished my stuff. And that's the good.
Question, so the two weeks start counting from the day you talk to the supervisor or manager ? Or you will be counting the two weeks in the next week after talking with them ?
I just walked out of my job and gave them my military base ID and quite my job and I have been doing this crapy job for 1 year and it’s not worth doing it anymore and now I work in the meat department in Food lion going to start next week so excited and a better pay .

Employers can treat you bad, but you always need to treat them good. Discrimination, racism, sexism no matter what, you need to leave “good” and give a good review on indeed

honestly, I would say maybe stick it out for at least a year. that way when you reference it on your resume, future employers will see you’re a committed employee who don’t quit within the first few months of a job and can understand what kind of worker you are. that’s just my take because I felt the same way about my old job.
I'm wondering if you really need to write a letter of resignation if it's entry level job? I'm leaving a job at a grocery store but i was just going to have a meeting with the manager and tell them
My boss works oversees and won't be in for another 3 weeks but I want to put in my two weeks as soon as possible because I'm getting more hours at my other job and the pay us better. I'm struggling juggling both right now. Since I can't see him in person, would email be appropriate? I want to do it in person just rather not keep waiting
If you are unable to talk with him in person, then you could use email. You can explain in the email how you would have preferred to do this in person, but given the circumstances were unable to do so. You might also consult with your Human Resources department for guidance on other steps you will need to take, given your boss is not present to guide you. -CC
I've quit without notice once, I never plan to go back and I am not putting them on a resume. Most of the time you want to quit on good terms. Where I work a bunch of employees have quit, worked somewhere else, and come back. They always come back with much higher level positions and salaries. You'd think the company would just get the hint and pay better right off.

Listen to him people!! I’m quitting tomorrow. Save money. Live better 😂

I actually found it okay as a first job! Just had to deal with the idiots and get on with it!
Or McDonald’s
About to quit that’s why I’m watching this . I don’t even want to wait 2 weeks I hate Walmart with a passion!
i’m trying to quit cause my manager sucks . i’m not even registered as an employee and a job isn’t on my record . i’m thinking of just quitting without telling anyone because i’m still considered unemployed.. yes or no 💀
If this is an under-the-table job, that means no one is even paying payroll taxes and this entire ordeal is illegal.
Do it :') 👍 and accept you just touch the floor while having that job dude, yeah it was awful but it's about yourself to find a new good job, is not like out there good jobs are waiting for you, even less with this plandemic :/ so you have to get better in all the ways posible to get a good job, I will try that as I see is better for one self and for others
Same did you just quit and not got to work?
@@astroant9354 i texted her and said "hey, this isn't the kind of work environment i want to be in and i'm not registered as an employee . i won't be showing up anymore"

When employers fire you on a Sunday last shift without notice...? Think about it just for a bit. Why would you give them a two weeks notice? Are they going to give you two weeks notice before firing you? Just look for another job once you get an offer you like quit finish your shift and say hey manager today is my last day thanks for everything and the opportunity this is unfortunately not working anymore and I learned a lot from you guys! But don't give two weeks... Waste of time.
About to give my two week notice. A little nervous, but I know it’s for the best. Wish me luck

I came here because I recently got a job as a loader at Hermes and judging by the position itself, I just want to work there for the experience only so that I can move off to something else instead.
I have an interview if all gos well I will be leaving my current job . This definitely gave me some much needed tips for when I do in fact leave for the job I’m going for the interview for or anything else I will go into in the future . Thank u !
did u get the job? what job
Easy to say when your employer doesnt belittle you and make you feel unwanted and you have no where to go
I did this literally minutes ago. Thank you for the video, watched it right before going in. Very helpful.
Great to hear that we could be of help to you!
I was just gonna leave and not come back

Here in the UK we have to give four weeks notice. Depending on where u work and the length service sometimes it can be months.
Really glad I watched this, was about to give notice by email and my email was definitely not positive enough. I think in person, simple and positive is so much better. Thanks
Best of luck to you, Matthew. Thanks for tuning in!
Should preface this video with if the employer is civil.
Here we go!
Putting in my 2 week notice tomorrow just got offered a new job
I like it on how indeeds own reviewing system won't let you write an HONEST review about a company, even though it constantly asks for you to wite one.
After reading a bunch of comments I'm just throw this out there but the 2 week rule is if you DON'T want to burn bridges and screw over your coworkers.
If it's a terrible work environment with awful people then feel free to walk away as you see fit. Hand in 2 weeks If you potentially want references, or to refer a friend for a position, or possibly a backup job in case the new place doesn't work out and you know the old place will welcome you back with open arms.
This is honestly so helpful.
I just recently found a new job and I'm so excited to jump into the new role.
So glad you found this helpful, Stormy. Congrats on your new job. Way to go!
Same here.
No sabotage, just left to retire, at no time did I look back. Great decision.
Sucks how it's better if you give a 2 week notice but when they fire you there's no 2 week notice. It would be nice if I got a 2 week notice so I can look for a new job.
This is your sign to hand in those two weeks... OR ONE WEEK notices too :)
My contract says I need to hand in one month notice 😔 gotta wait 4 whole weeks to leave this shit hole😕
Wonder why there are no comments for 45 thousand views...
My position is as an at will employee I don’t owe my company anything if I’m resigning and they don’t owe me anything if they let me go. I’ve seen people fired for giving two weeks. Sometimes it happens often.
Even with being fired isn’t there an option to get severance pay?
Putting mine in on Friday. Thanks Indeed!
I just put my two weeks in
So you got new job now?
Dam
Tell me how it went
It's The Great Resignation, lots of people will be following the steps in this video
I don’t know how to go about it
I feel ya brother
I think I’m going to quit. This video certainly does help, thank you!
did u quit, what job do u have rn
@@Brendenmaximin yeah I quit in January. Hated KFC, don’t know why I ever wanted to work there. I’m now working in a butchers shop

I’ve never been so happy resigning a job, I feel free.
I’ve seen to many people get fired and walked out when they give notice. I base on giving notice depending how on the company treats me. If you get a bad receive simple confirm it with a reference checking firm, send off a ceise and desist from a company. Problem solved.
@GreenBreenMasheen All you need to do is call Allison and Taylor confirm the bad reference then send off a ceise and desist. Works for me every time.
This is really helpful! I might be leaving a company I've been at for 6 years. I had no idea how to write a resignation letter.
Ouch
I’m doing this next week. First time to actually resign from a job that needs face to face. In my old jobs, we just put it in the web portal.
Feeling very anxious about my two weeks notice. I love the company I'm working for, not so fond of management and the lack there of. Coming from 0 experience this company took me in and taught me so much and leaving them in their darkest hour has me feeling guilty almost. But I need to this for my own personal gain in my career.
When I put the resignation letter I had people making me feel that I made the wrong decision and try and manipulate me.
I HATE IT HERE, pure and simple
thats childish talk
Leave
I quit today with an email on the spot after 3 years. They were pissed. Good riddance. Id rather starve than have their agenda on my mind 24/7
😂
I hate it here. this place sucks. lol That was unexpected.
The problem is the next place might be worse. Make sure you go someplace that will give you a chance to upgrade yourself. One day we will find that sweet job as long as we keep improving.
I have so many things to complain but i think i will refrain from those things.
Ive seen many temps and employees let go literally hours before they clock in. And we gotta give companies “plenty of time”….. so they can quickly get someone to replace them.
Excellent simple to the point I will used this planning to resign as we speak thanks again better opportunity 🎉❤😊
Everything about this video is perfect
Ive been at my job 4 days but i have gotten a better offer and im leaving my job im so nurvous its my first job
Instructions unclear, I just shat on the desk of my boss.
I will give my 2 weeks notice tomorrow 5/3/2023, I'm a bit nervous.
How does it feel now?
-CC
1:24 This is how I dream of having that conversation.
Wanna put mine in today I feel completely bad because I know he needs people but I have kids and I have no one to watch them during the day so I need to leave to be able to make sure my kids are taken care of, honestly doubt my boss will take it as well as the one in the video
How did it go?
Your kids are more important than your boss.
Did you do it ?? I want to do the same today is Monday and I’m thinking of typing up my quitting notice at the end of the day I just feel so scared because this is a corporate job and I don’t want to have to work for another two more weeks it’s nerve wracking too to type of this letter
We had 2 rounds of cuts. We went from a small 50 people start up to just 6!
I organically took on 4 new roles and have been doing it for 1 year now.
I was offered a dream job and took it. I know when I resign, it may end up in the company closing 😢
But I have kids and other things to consider.
And that's the good.
putting my 2 weeks notice today, wish me luck!!!
Question, so the two weeks start counting from the day you talk to the supervisor or manager ? Or you will be counting the two weeks in the next week after talking with them ?
@@KaoruMinaI believe it’s the day you talk to ur supervisor. it depends when they make the schedules for ur job
@@breezybrad thank you for answering, I really appreciate it 🙏!
Huge mistake. Always get fired so u get unemployment benefits.

In the UK some firms hold you to a week for every year you have been there - potentially 10 to 12 weeks .
2 Weeks would be a dream !
Wow I've never heard of that, that's kinda wild.
@@Shadowdreamer4 it’s a joke
I served notice 12th Nov and was held until 12th Jan for a job I’d been at for 10 years and that was a back office Admin job with no management responsibilities- little to no consideration was given which one of the main reasons I left in the first place
I’m 14 i work in a grocery store and I want to quit. Not because it’s hard or anything but because my co-works are so annoying and the managers are rude to everyone and, the store is disgusting. On top of that they never buy new stuff so we have to use all the old broken carts for stuff.
Surprise! Most retail jobs are like that. I suggest applying to other places first and if you get a job elsewhere then leave.

Okay, thank you so much!
Employers can treat you bad, but you always need to treat them good. Discrimination, racism, sexism no matter what, you need to leave “good” and give a good review on indeed
I've been fired days before Christmas. I will never give any warning I will just leave. You don't owe these greedy heartless companies anything
i work for a family friend and the pay is good and the hours are amazing but its just not made for me and its so toxic, i want to quit but ive been only working there for about a month and half and days before i work im stressing out about working cause i hate it so much idk what to do.
honestly, I would say maybe stick it out for at least a year. that way when you reference it on your resume, future employers will see you’re a committed employee who don’t quit within the first few months of a job and can understand what kind of worker you are. that’s just my take because I felt the same way about my old job.
I'm wondering if you really need to write a letter of resignation if it's entry level job? I'm leaving a job at a grocery store but i was just going to have a meeting with the manager and tell them
for retail I wouldn't bother.
Love the way this was laid out!
Micromanaging is one reason to quit
Life's a playground, so wear that smile proud.
Ahhh Indeed... teaching people to be inauthentic corporate shills. Gotta love Indeed
I quit the same day I started my new job. My manager was awful and I didn't do any of this
I have to be honest. But not being exactly honest. Thanks for the advice Indeed.
The number one reason to leave a job is more money, yet it isn't on the list being shown in the video lol
Didn’t it say compensation
Mental health too, very important reason
