I loved this video! I'm always morbidly curious about the kinds of books that are popular on booktok, but never delve in because generally romantasy (or even fantasy in general) isn't my preferred genre. And I'm still curious now even after what you said XD I didn't realise Cleopatra & Frankenstein was on that list of hated books though?? I've had it on my shelf to read for ages, maybe I'll get to it sooner now!
Finally a review on ACOTAR that speaks my mind!! I felt too that did I missed pages or parts because I'm not convinced in the main love story at all. I kept reading thinking the book might get better. But no. I finished the book feeling very disappointed. And every positive review was like the 2nd book is much better but I felt so disappointed in the 1st book that I don't think I would be picking up the 2nd book of the series.
ACOTAR isn't meant to be read alone :) It's all leading up to the rest of the series so it doesn't make a lot of sense on its own but if you end up picking up the rest of the books, it'll make more sense why it's like that. Great videos btw!
ACOTAR I've found is more about the world building/setting up the second book... where the second book gives the first book context. You still might not like the series, and I still find flaws in the writing/plot but the second book is my favorite. I've found the first book is enjoyable after reading the whole series bc it is meant to be everything you found it to be, ie the fmc is naive to the world and it is her first love. I've really enjoyed your reviews!
Oooooo interesting! Yeh I feel very intolerant of her naïveté but I hadn’t considered that it was intended to be that way. Like it’s meant to be all a bit blind and foolish?? Might end up reading the others out of curiosity then, but currently there are far too many ahead of them on my TBR for that to happen And, thanks ! :)
@@RecoveringBookSnob no problem I totally understand! I have so many books on my to read list, but I just thought I'd give context as to why it's tiktok famous (for the second book onwards haha). I definitely think that the writer could have done better with the series as a whole, but I like the fmc character development in the second book, new characters that are introduced and definitely the magic. Without spoiling too much... we find the fmc come into her own and explore more of this magical world. Again, still might not be your cup of tea, but either way, cheers!
I'm probably reading ACATAR for the banned book event in September. It definitely won't be for me, based on all descriptions, but I guess that's not the point.
Came here because I just finished ACOTAR and was so disappointed 😂 I also think Cleopatra and Frankenstein is similar to Sally Rooney books, in that none of the characters are likable
I just love how you approach reading. 🫶 I do the same, but in Portuguese videos. 😂 That’s the thing, read it all, but THINK about it. ♥️ And I agree. The design of those books with a lot of colour in them and illustrations on the covers, but not for children at all, are so badly identified as being 18+ that is preposterous 🙄 A poorly informed parent will let them read and have no idea (because most don’t talk about what they read and therefore don’t think about what they read either). With that being said, I’m now going to give a chance to Fourth Wing. Cheers for that x And thank you for your videos. I feel like we could be best friends (no stalking vibes though) 🤣
They call them spicy, and.. I personally don't read them, but apparently they abound.

For sure. And once you’ve read it you can watch TheCookieRhino’s animated summary and lol
Wow, thanks for doing this so we don't have to 😂
I do secretly enjoy it tbh

Right?! It has left me gobsmacked!
And yeh I feel that. But at the start I wasn’t finding them interesting either 😭 warmed up eventually tho
