Something that boggles my mind is that Squenix management to port Neir Automata natively to Switch, a much more recent a graphically intensive game, but couldn't afford the same luxury to Kingdom Hearts? Just... why...
KH on handheld sounds awesome, it’s too bad that cloud gaming isn’t working. Personally I hope game streaming is never the stand and just an option, I like my physical copies. Not having my own physical copy just reminds me how companies are pushing for us to not be able to actually own anything and have everything on the “as a service” model.
I still don’t understand why they thought this was a good idea. Especially since the Xbox, PC, and PS4 versions are all ported normally, rather than put on Cloud.
I still find it shocking how KH switch had so much potential, but the cloud gaming made it flop. I get that the base games need a lot of storage on PlayStation and PC. But, I’ve seen other games that are just as large like DOOM Eternal, The Witcher 3, Monster Hunter, and a few others that were clearly made for the advanced consoles, but can still play well on the switch. At least 1.5+2.5 could’ve been a base version.
This is why I bought the PC versions. Not only do they NOT use unreliable cloud technology, but I don't own a PS4, so the Epic Games Store was my only option. But I was SURPRISED by just how smooth the games ran on my PC, which, by today's standards, is REALLY old. Seriously, I played through the entire series, and I only experienced ONE crash, which was in Dream Drop Distance. Other than that, the games ran FLAWLESSLY, save for a few minor frame drops on KH3 (though the Darkubes boss in San Fransokyo did drag my framerate to hell, but thankfully it didn't crash). And I can definitively say that buying the PC versions was one of the best decisions I ever made, because Kingdom Hearts was truly a fantastic experience, and one that I'll remember for the rest of my life. So if you're looking to get into the series and don't own a PS4, get the PC versions on EGS (even if Epic may not be the best company to give your money to). Do NOT, under any circumstances, waste your money on these pathetic excuses for "ports".
Except getting them on PS5 or Series X is probably the best modern way to play since KH3 keeps it at a smooth 60fps instead of last gen where it plays up to 60fps, it does drop in frames during certain parts of the game Edit: also the All in One collection you can get for cheap on console
And the PC ports are even better if you add Topazk's RE:Fined mod, it adds alot of QoL improvements and fixes bugs and best of all it gets rid of the online only restriction.
3:18 at Atlantica, I had this problem where it stopped registering my inputs but was still streaming what was going on. It kept saying no internet (even beside the router) and I saw Sora swim in circles until I decided to restart the stream
I actually had this problem quite a bit more than any real disconnects or crashes, Sora would just start running around without any input from my controller, very spooky and 100% a ghost and not my terrible internet connection
@@tinglyjungle I was visiting someone who had a decent internet, but I guess it wasn’t that great. My biggest problem came from my first playthrough when I was fighting dragon maleficent. Lag, lag, lag
From what I understand, the reason why it's a cloud verison is due to the file size of the collection. 1+2 Collection alone is 50gb, more than the Switch has without extra storage. But what they could have done is either just sold them separately or have the menu download one game at a time. I usually try and give companies the benefit of the doubt (becuase the gaming industry is a nightmare), but this just feels lazy. And the we have the rhythm game which is perfectly normal!
@@Robbie_Haruna Hard to believe that the same company put out native ports of Crisis Core, Nier Automata, and Dragon Quest XI. Those were all high quality.
I have been playing the cloud versions, but mine wasn't bad as this. Maybe I'm lucky that my internet doesn't disconnect like the person in the video. I still lag here and there, usually reset the game if it is bad lag when I start. I already 100% kh1 final mix, beat re:com (will 100% too), and now on kh2 final mix. I plan to 100% the entire collection on switch. The lag isn't that bad for me. The only thing I don't like is if I'm idling too long, but I understand why that is. I'm having fun with the series... though when lag sometimes happens when I'm really depressed with life that's something else. I don't hate cloud gaming, think it gets a lot of hate. It needs improvements sure. Though once I get a ps5 I plan to rebuild the games mainly because switch version has no achievements but it be nice to not worry about lag even if it is extremely minor for me.
If anyone reading this is able to do so, I highly recommend playing the Kingdom Hearts games on a ps4 or ps5. You can buy ‘the story so far’ and ‘kh3’ for pretty cheap now, and you won’t have to deal with the irritating lag.
I will die on this hill they’re fucking PS2/PSP/3DS games. There’s no excuse for them not to at least be downloadable from the e shop or even split up 1.5 and 2.5
If there's enough fan demands, I think Square Enix might consider making a native port for KH 1.5 + 2.5 ReMix. Idk why Square Enix was so lazy making a native port of the first two games, when Nier Automata runs smoothly on the Switch.💀💀💀💀
If WB Games could release Batman Arkham Trilogy on Switch, why can't Square Enix do the same to Kingdom Hearts? Konami of all people are doing the same thing bringing Metal Gear to Switch.
Not only that, Squenix themselves ported Nier Automata to Switch, no cloud nonsense involved, and that is a much more recent and graphically intensive game. I don't understand this company sometimes.
I am glad I was able to emulate 1 and 2. Although the computer used renders and lags in some sections, the game is mostly playable and passable. And even better is it is FREE!! Instead of spending money for the same lags and crashes on Switch. 😂
@tumultuousv Haha, not on this PC. PoS sucks aaaaaasssssssssss....... And THE original Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2 are not really available w/o buying them for ridiculous prices online. (Which the makers/creators are not getting a single cent for them prices) Just the 1.5/2.5 versions are what's available nowadays, but I wanted THE originals. Or other I would get all the KH games on a better PC.
The fact that Dream Drop Distance, a game originally released for the 3DS couldn't get a native port on the switch... Fucmin baffles me to no end. Plus all of the older KH games before 0.2 and 3 could've been perfectly playable In a native state, really the only ones I'm fine with clouded Is 0.2 and 3. The rest being Clouded Is ridiculous.
Didn’t even see this video til now But in a real note i got this game last year and it was amazing no lags either but the funniest thing is that I made my game on one hit kill because I was kinda scared playing it on normal hit
The fact that BOTW and TOTK are even functional on the Switch proves that some of these games could easily run natively. Even DOOM Eternal, an ultra fast paced shooter, runs natively. Native Switch versions of these games are clearly downgraded, but that's sure as fuck not a surprise. It's still very impressive that Nintendo can work with what they have. Functionality>Form
I hate the idea of needing the cloud server, but I played through KH1/2/3 on the switch pretty recently this year, totaling about 120 hours and I didn’t have nearly as many issues as some other may. Never felt input lag at all, slight frame dropping occasionally but nothing I’d notice for hours at a time. Never disconnected from the server either. My biggest complaint is if you go to the home page or need to walk away from the system for even a minute, you’d have to go back to the home page and reconnect.
This was such a killer for me too, I’d get up to go talk to family or hop on the phone with friends and then lose an hour or two of gameplay for being a dumb dumb, truly a skill issue I suppose lmao
These game's aren't even available in latin america (I live in Mexico), because Nintendo thinks we latinamericans still use telephone modems. The funny thing is, I play regularly on GeForce Now and the streaming is smooth as silk, I almost never have connection issues, and the few I had, the blame is on my internet. Cloud gaming isn't the problem. Nintendo's cloud service *IS* the problem.
I’ve only had 3 Non-skill issues for switch so far. KH1; returning to Tarzan’s world for black ballad (frame drops and game freezing), and when fighting Xemnas I got black screened (could still hear myself moving around tho). KH2; Coliseum Rapid Thruster level, some would become immortal. Currently on BBS but put on hold because it’s draining trying to collect everything.
Now look at you you agree with me on this comment but in another comment disagreeing with us because we said they was lazy idk if you’re a kid or have a mind of one because you’re not making no sense whatsoever.
I still don't get why Square made KH cloud games on Switch like, half the games are from the PS2, DDD was already in a Nintendo Console, and if KH3 was a problem, it wouldn't matter some worse graphics. If space was a concern, just divide 1.5 and 2.5 and do the Megaman collection thing of, you bought both, but only one is in the cartridge
Surprisingly, my phone's hotspot runs cloud gaming really well if I hook my console up to it, but I've gotta run a VPN through it via jailbreak so I can reach those 50mbps+ speeds
I was so excited and then found out it was clouds and felt absolutely gutted, so I held off for like 9 months. Then bit the bullet because I just like the game so much and I only have a switch. Thankfully it has run perfectly for me. I have been playing it for about a year. I would play for hours without a single glitch and even works with my hotspot. I was shocked! I only get kicked off if I have it paused for longer than fifteen minutes.
I don’t know who at square thought this was a good idea. Just a company desperate to squeeze more money out of decades old franchises without doing any actual work to create a functional port. I feel really bad for anyone who spent money and this and we’re duped by nostalgia. We’ll all have to keep dreaming on and hope that portable KH is on the horizon at some point in the future. RIP.
If Final Fantasy X/X-2 can run perfectly on Nintendo Switch so can Kingdom Hearts 1.5+2.5, also the Dream Drop Distance portion of 2.8 since that game was originally a Nintendo 3DS game.
I just got a Switch for cheap over the summer (a coworker only used his three times and sold it to me for $100) and was looking to add this bundle. Tempted to get this bundle, but at the same time I’m scared too. I still have the original two numbered games on PS2 that I could always play.

This was the most heartbreaking gaming thing for me I LOVE KH and I wanted it on the go since I was in middle school (specifically 2) then this… there’s absolutely no reason this can’t natively come to switch… I choose to ignore these games… there’s only 1 KH on switch and it’s the rhythm game cloud gaming is the absolute WORST (also I was wanting to get my friends into the series and promised I’d buy them the franchise for each of it came to switch… but this both 1 not actually on switch but 2 it’s not even available in all countries so some couldn’t even play this trash if they wanted to…) sorry my thoughts are all over the place I’m just so pissed about this still… at least Square is giving better support to FF DQ and NieR for switch and I guess I can emulate 2 on my steam deck :/ if they ever fix this wrong I will still be buying at least 4 copies of each game but they have to be NATIVE ports
To be honest if you have great internet it's not that bad Personally while I had occasional lag spikes it was nothing pausing and waiting 5 seconds couldn't fix Also mine has disconnected only once and it was when I went to the bathroom (where the wifi is weak)
@@satanasluciferi7278 I have good internet but 1 if I’m stuck at home I already have other ways to play them I wanted the ability to play on the go like I said I dreamed of it since I was in middle school but 2 I personally also despise cloud gaming because a it craps on the idea of why one would buy a switch in the first place b it needs good internet and conditions on both sides (say there’s a storm where the servers are and they have a power outage you are kinda sol if you wanna play at that moment) and c the big thing is preservation once the servers go down that’s it even digital only games can be backed up and played later with emulation and stuff but if no one has access to the files to back them up that’s it once they go down they’re lost media (much like the satellite BS Zelda games) Ik it’s not as big an issue for KH specifically but for other games it is Sorry for my rant
I too almost tried to get it on sale because a friend of mine said it ran great. Skeptical, I still downloaded the demo first. The slight input lag drove me crazy. I just couldn't do it. Glad I didn't blindly trust them tbh.
I know this is late but by this stage, it's safe to say we're fine with additional downloads for at least 1.5 + 2.5 seeing Arkham Trilogy and Borderlands 3 do the same. Surprisingly, most don't mind because they played fine (except for Arkham Knight)
I saw the video title, and was like "wait, that type of title is typically only used for bad games or bad ports. Is the switch version really that bad?". And then I saw the advert at the very beginning that said "cloud gaming" and I was like "oh, that explains everything."
I'm still surprised some people defend these kinds of games saying at least it's on the console. Not everyone's internet will be stable at all times. I'll take downgraded visuals and 30 fps to actually own it.
There’s really no reason for anyone to hate kingdom hearts unless they hate Disney or action rpgs in general. Maybe if you just don’t like the crazy over complicated plot/backstory but you can either dive into it or just don’t stress that much about it and it’s actually pretty good
Incidentally, Tingly, a good way to beat Riku in the race is to not imitate him. Riku is cocky and a show-off because he knows he can get away with doing things you probably can't do as well as he can. But if you just stick to the low ground and run across the beach rather than trying to be fancy, you're pretty much guaranteed to beat him because he wastes too much time showboating.
The worst part about this is the switch would be perfectly able to operate/run kh1, 2 re chain, and birth by sleep no question. If my ps2 could run 3 flavors of kh, the switch should be able to. But sadly the fault is on square not nintendo. Square doing a crappy job without proper operations revisions before the cloud version
I played though all of KH1 this way, the input delay and loss of progress really annoyed me, I had lost all my progress twice on the last phase of the last boss
That’s why im glad I got rpcs3 running on my steam deck I was able to get 1.5 and 2.5 playing great and I got kingdom hearts 3 the remind edition running even with mods by downloading kh3 from fitgirl on a windows desktop and just transferring the folder over to my steam deck with a sd card and adding it to my library now I got the whole series in a handheld form its amazing
I even understand Kingdom Hearts 3 and 0.2 (which is part of the 2.8 collection) are not native ports for Switch, these two are Unreal Engine 4 games that are quite demanding, already run at 720p on Xbox One and have serious problems maintaining the frame-rate on the base PS4 and Xbox One so I can't imagine how this would run on the Switch ( and Square is aware of Unreal Engine 4 on the console, after all, they ported Dragon Quest XI to it ) but still... No excuses for both 1.5 and 2.5 collections being cloud and not native ports, these are DS/PSP/PS2 games only and this collection was originally released for PS3, Switch is a more powerful console than PS3, it would run that no problem. I think they could have gone the way Dying Light did, they announced both games, the first game is a native port, the second which is a more demanding game runs via cloud on Switch.

At least 1.5+2.5 could’ve been a base version.
kh1 and 2 could easily play on the switch, as well as every single spin off. not sure why they don't do a proper port
I feel like they were just rushed onto the system to coincide with Sora in Smash but that's between Mr. Square Enix and God now I guess
even 3ds has an actual playable kingdom hearts game💀
Agreed the ports sucks
Except getting them on PS5 or Series X is probably the best modern way to play since KH3 keeps it at a smooth 60fps instead of last gen where it plays up to 60fps, it does drop in frames during certain parts of the game
Edit: also the All in One collection you can get for cheap on console
It's crazy that they're exclusive to the Epic Games Store, I always forget they're not on Steam...
Square Enix is too lazy to optimize literally anything I swear to god.
A collection of fucking upscaled PS2 games shouldn't be goddamn 50GB
@@Robbie_Haruna Hard to believe that the same company put out native ports of Crisis Core, Nier Automata, and Dragon Quest XI. Those were all high quality.
Remember ff10 on ps3 is 32gb and ps vita port is 3gb? Just "optimal" and the whole colection is 15gb maximum
I'm still waiting for this game sales on the switch.
Ima be real with you as someone who played kh2 on a ps2 slim back in the day you’re getting better frame rate than I was.
Mine doesn't lag really either.
switch is more than capable of running at least 1.5+2.5 with 30 fps so WTF, SQUARE?
For a more premium handheld KH experience, get a Steam Deck or ROG Ally.
man that's rought.. all i can say is... PCMR!!!!!!
i love the epic games ports. they work so well :3
If anyone reading this is able to do so, I highly recommend playing the Kingdom Hearts games on a ps4 or ps5.
If you have a PC to emulate then you have a PC to purchase these games that run well.
@tumultuousv
Haha, not on this PC.
PoS sucks aaaaaasssssssssss.......
And THE original Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2 are not really available w/o buying them for ridiculous prices online.
(Which the makers/creators are not getting a single cent for them prices)
Just the 1.5/2.5 versions are what's available nowadays, but I wanted THE originals.
Or other I would get all the KH games on a better PC.
@@tumultuousv The actual pc version they released literaly crashes during cutscenes constantly
Didn’t even see this video til now
But in a real note i got this game last year and it was amazing no lags either but the funniest thing is that I made my game on one hit kill because I was kinda scared playing it on normal hit
I know Final Fantasy 7 did great and that's fine, but did they really need to make a Cloud version of Kingdom Hearts?
(I'll see myself out.)
You have no idea how hard it was to make a title for this video without making it sound like a mod where I played through the game as Cloud lmfao
@@tinglyjungle There's an upcoming game called Genokids, the game looks Kingdom Hearts inspired.
@@tinglyjungle Oh my god, all it took was that one time to become an over-saver. I feel ya haha
Hmm. A lot of people are saying KH3 wouldn't run natively on Switch but... Nier Automata runs great on Switch.
Ikr 🥹
I’ve only had 3 Non-skill issues for switch so far. KH1; returning to Tarzan’s world for black ballad (frame drops and game freezing), and when fighting Xemnas I got black screened (could still hear myself moving around tho). KH2; Coliseum Rapid Thruster level, some would become immortal. Currently on BBS but put on hold because it’s draining trying to collect everything.
Square enix needs to open his eyes and get rid of cloud version
2:40 bruh now i kinda wanna see someone fight lingering sentiment with the added lag for the fuck of it 😂
You are a champion sir. Thank you for this ❤
Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2 can run at 2x resolution on some pretty cheap phones. They were exceedingly lazy with the switch versions.
The thumbnail for this video looks like a mobile game ad.
Perfect.
Surprisingly, my phone's hotspot runs cloud gaming really well if I hook my console up to it, but I've gotta run a VPN through it via jailbreak so I can reach those 50mbps+ speeds
KH has been ported so many times, you’d think they wouldn’t fail porting KH on switch, but they did….
It's just Square Enix being lazy lmfao
@@michaelrobosa146 I recommend Legend of Mana as alternative to KH on Switch. It's action RPG from Square it even has Yoko Shimomura has the composer.
@@GingerPisces2023 if it’s the only option you have to play a lot of the games in the collections it’s completely valid. I’ve been able to play through all of the games on the collections on my switch on the cloud in the year or so since this video came out and I only had 1 or 2 MAJOR errors outside of the little bit of lag and occasionally forgetting that it’ll disconnect if I leave it for a moment
The real critical mode
To be honest if you have great internet it's not that bad
Personally while I had occasional lag spikes it was nothing pausing and waiting 5 seconds couldn't fix
Also mine has disconnected only once and it was when I went to the bathroom (where the wifi is weak)
@@satanasluciferi7278 I have good internet but 1 if I’m stuck at home I already have other ways to play them I wanted the ability to play on the go like I said I dreamed of it since I was in middle school but 2 I personally also despise cloud gaming because a it craps on the idea of why one would buy a switch in the first place b it needs good internet and conditions on both sides (say there’s a storm where the servers are and they have a power outage you are kinda sol if you wanna play at that moment) and c the big thing is preservation once the servers go down that’s it even digital only games can be backed up and played later with emulation and stuff but if no one has access to the files to back them up that’s it once they go down they’re lost media (much like the satellite BS Zelda games) Ik it’s not as big an issue for KH specifically but for other games it is
Sorry for my rant
@@RaxonXVI I recommend Legend of Mana as alternative to KH on Switch. It's action RPG from Square it even has Yoko Shimomura has the composer.
@@orangeslash1667 I do have it and it’s an amazing game but it doesn’t scratch that itch for me
@@RaxonXVI Other action RPG's I recommend are Ni no Kuni 1,2 and Cross Code.
I too almost tried to get it on sale because a friend of mine said it ran great.
Skeptical, I still downloaded the demo first. The slight input lag drove me crazy. I just couldn't do it. Glad I didn't blindly trust them tbh.
its hysterical that this game doesn't run natively, and that it only runs via cloud.
Fight sephiroth in this version. I dare you.
... might have to hit a McDonald's and beat Sephiroth using their wifi
Imagine fighting KH3's Super Bosses as well.

There’s really no reason for anyone to hate kingdom hearts unless they hate Disney or action rpgs in general.
Maybe if you just don’t like the crazy over complicated plot/backstory but you can either dive into it or just don’t stress that much about it and it’s actually pretty good
The writing. I can absolutely understand someone hating Kingdom Hearts because of how the writing is made for literal babies at times.
I couldn’t even imagine playing KH3 with cloud gaming and it makes me sick thinking about it
Incidentally, Tingly, a good way to beat Riku in the race is to not imitate him.
I love it too much but the cloud is where I draw the line your a warrior a keyblade master
I played though all of KH1 this way, the input delay and loss of progress really annoyed me, I had lost all my progress twice on the last phase of the last boss
Where are the downloadable versions at?
It’s don’t exist on switch
@@Nyto242 Awwww... At least the All-In-One package can make up for it.
They should've launch the games in physic and in digital, i don't know why nintendo and square enix took that decision
