What are your thoughts about the new Raspberry Pi 5?
Three words:
No. Nvme. Support.
@@GustavoMsTrashCan fear nit. vids up with that being demoed. 700?+mbs is the answer..
excited.
I would have liked to ask how far they are along with the Pi 6 :-) they must have started on it already.
@@t43562 Eben said the release cadence is a 4 year cycle. So Pi 6 will be 2027. A pi 5 b+ maybe in 2 years
During the lockdowns the Pi400 became my go to computer for most of my daily tasks. I bought it as a reminder to the good old times where typed my first lines of BASIC on a ZX80 (!) kit.
I like always love these interviews with Eben
right? those are best thing about new launch. i also love ones where larger team is present
100% ♥
Yes please a Pi 500. :)
why not Pi 5000 )))
And option for a Black one....
their a talented family the Statham's... 🤩
Great interview, thanks for sharing! Good to understand the specs and the decisions behind this version. I'm looking forward to trying it out! 🎉
Great interview Kev. I learnt some new stuff!!
Chiplet ... any one remember Amiga with it's custom chips. 😁
Great video! Thanks for putting this one together. My RPi 5 is on pre-order.
That’s my Xmas present sorted…..

Ebon is a genius imdeed.
Thanks for showing the talk.
.........i wondered if Ebon would ever divulge exactly How many Pi's IN TOTAL have been sold since 2012..........it would be so interesting to know..........
.........he mentioned 55 million but is that ALL MODELS ....?....and across the whole industrial and personal models fields?
Eben is really making the rounds with the Pi5 release... surprised that he still has a voice...
Really good to hear all this, thanks for sharing.
Thanks for sharing the full interview. That was extremely informative. As soon as my Pi5 arrives it is going on a mobile robot platform that contains a robot arm. I look forward to experimenting with sensors, vision, and maybe try running an LLM.
How about building a mobile inMoov?
I am off away from the 'puter so will watch later. I am just hoping for two things with the replacement for Pi 400. One, it is released in a black case as well as the white one. Two, the motherboard is available sans case.
I have no need or want for a RPi 5. But for me I know it is good for IT education, the hobby, and the Linux world and that is fantastic.
Raspberry Pi 5 is very interesting board. Was interesting to hear(not hear) where Pi 4 fell in the discussions. For Pi 5 dual camera support is great. Am curious what's in the pipeline as far as new Pi Hats. Given the Sony investment and their AI connection, that could be interesting.
Was awesome to hear how well the RP2040 has been doing over last couple years. Am curious what roadmap for the RP2040 looks like. Looking forward to that (future) interview.
I was hoping for DisplayPort and USB data on the USB-C connector, so you could have a single-wire setup connecting to a monitor.
Wow, so interesting. I sure hope it is something like the Orange Pi5? AI and TensorFlow are fun. 😎 Thank you.
The big selling feature for Raspberry stuff are the working examples with GPIO support. I would rather spend a little more to keep up with the future SBCs machine learning, etc.
Will we be able to get our hands on it. Sold out everywhere at the moment in the USA.
Brilliant Kev very interesting 🎉
The stock blower fan should have a grill to help blocking accidental touches on the fan, especially while running.
First Rpi pencil sharpener on the market, that's not a bug, it's a feature.
Wayland info is interesting, 2x software boost on top of hardware boost.
41:45 That was a devastating demonstration of weapons grade shade
If they release a Pi500 - I'd love to be able to buy it in motherboard form (as a straight swap with the Pi400's motherboard)...
It's rather difficult to hear him even with my audio cranked up fully.
Thanks for sharing.
Will this ever be available in quantity enough to discourage scalpers?
We just need the Rasp Pi5 CubeSAT onboard computer variant now.
With UA-cam going H264/VP9 -> AV1 route and many others going AV1 as well, having just H265 as the only hardware decoder but aiming to be Desktop replacement/alternative is a bit alarming. Doesn't affect my use case though as all my pi are headless servers or emulation stations
I get strong Clive Sinclair vibes off of Eben Upton for some reason.
Great Interview, but since when did a very British Company turn American why am i hearing and seeing Dollars everywhere?
Sterling is less important these days (represents only 5% of global reserve currency) and world markets run in dollars or are valued in dollars.
I think it's good there is to be overlap between different generations..I still run some pi 3b+ & various zero & zero 2w all chosen dependant on their application. I didn't want to use a pi4 where a 3 was sufficient. Will.lilely do the same with pi5.
The pi5 will make clustered computing exciting too.
I'm sure I will love the content and will certainly "listen" to the whole thing 😊.
But do you really need to switch camera angles and zoom in so many times in the first 30 seconds? 😅
Maybe I'm just getting old at basically middle aged. I'm not the main target audience of UA-cam videos and I guess you have to follow the common conventions to fit the algorithm and get more people to see the video which is a good thing. I just wish we could have an interview like this and have the camera stay still for a while.
Zoom cuts are one thing I find really annoying. If there's nothing on screen besides the people talking, I just listen as if it was a podcast 😆
Eben is the Jason Statham of mini pc board :)
I had hoped for an 8 core
I wanted more power !!!!
Why not build a Pi fact in the USA?
Great question - probably cost, it’s much cheaper to manufacture in the Uk than the US (just look at cost of living in UK vs US, and then think about labour costs)
Not if Trump gets in office. At least company tax would be less
@@cjlowe1650 I thought he put extra taxes on imported goods, so would end up making you pay even more for the same thing
Why does he keeps tackling on Intel 😂😂 It's savage I don't get it
2-3x is not an order of magnitude, unless you're operating in binary instead of decimal ;-)
...thank the pi 1 - its 150x faster which is 2 orders of magnitude faster
@@kevinmcaleer28 right I thought you were referring to the difference between the Pi 4 and 5
The real question is: Wot does e know about diamonds?
Is raspberry pi 5 can be used as the brain for artificial intelligence.
Dear god. Eben is still doing that bizarre growling speech thing where he starts out speaking normally, then gradually speaks lower and quieter until he is barely using his larynx at all and has almost swallowed his voice completely. It must drive his co workers round the bend.
Yes I'm sure his coworkers care so much more about how he talks rather than how pleasant he is to work with
It's an ego / power dynamic where your speaking style FORCES your coworkers and others to uber-focus on you, hanging onto your every word.
😀
Jason Statham tells us about Pi 5 )))
$60+a case + a memory card + a power supply. Who the hell is buying this thing? Has to be near $100 when all said and done. You can get much better kits for less than that off of another company.
Well, they’re sold out so lots of people clearly!
It may be worth noting that 1GB RP4 was $35 back in 2019, with the 4GB model being $55. Adjusted for inflation, that would be $42 and $66 today. Not to mention this wholly disregards the ecosystem's value and the support availability with the Raspberry Pi. If you have ever tried to work with some of the other boards, like from Rock, or Orange (Banana has been pretty okay), it can be very troublesome getting everything compiled and working, and there is barely any community support by comparison.
Back in 2013 I developed a digital signage system for an exhibition with RPi A boards. For a touchscreen table display with 10 finger input the Raspi was somewhat underpowered so I bought a Cubitruck and an Olimex board with the A20 dual core CPU for this contraption. Guess what, the Mali GPU drove me nuts and I ended up with Intel Nucs!
Since then 'I use Raspis wherever I can, the ecosystem is just great.
@@VolkerHett This very much, software support and documentation is where the value is. I'm getting a PI 5 to continue tinoering with toy kernels on actual hardware instead of emulators on a PC as I'm doing now.
Still waiting for the "just buy an Atom server" guys to show me where the GPIO pins are and how they fit the motherboard and power supply into their project
cant even keep up with pi zero w 's and htey talking pi 5
Raspberry pi 5 is too expensive Orange Pi 5 plus is cheaper and way way more powerful with AI cores and has built in PCIE. This is a joke product a 6 year old CPU... I wont buy raspberry pi 5
From what I see, the 4Gb RAM Orange Pi plus is only a few pounds less. No onboard WiFi or Bluetooth, no FCC certification, documentation isnt very good, no EOL information.
Not sure it's quite as good as you say but each has their pros and cons.
Pi5 available until 2035, that's worth it. And Orange Pi is not much different in price.
That would be a relevant comment if orange pi products worked for anything other than booting into an OS. Even then, it’s typically outdated and a really old kernel. The community support isn’t there. I purchased orange pi, rock pi, odroid etc etc during the shortage to try and source workable alternatives for my product lines. None of them worked. The rock pi was the closest, but the net plan stuff just didn’t work, and it wasn’t worth spending weeks of debugging. The pi foundation community support is second to none. It doesn’t matter if the competition is faster on paper if they just don’t work in reality.
Not for you, don't buy and don't comment WTF
