Chris recommended you, so here I am, I’ve sub’d of course. I live near the Kennedy Space Center, and have been a computer engineer for 50+ years. Looking forward to watching your videos. 👍👍
Hey Alan! Pleased to meet you!

@@kevinmcaleer28 This is my first time I watch one of your videos and your reply to @perrymitchell7118 is a proof that he/she was right.
Thank you both Kevin and Chris!
If you are into retro gaming you know - with a high degree of certainty, that by early 2024 the Pi5 will have the best experience, possibly by a long way.
While they underplay the speed improvement, the CPU and GPU are between 60% and 110% faster than the 4. The higher numbers being real world as opposed to synthetic testing.
The retro ecosystem is going to get a big bump forward in the next 18 months. I know other SBCs are quicker than the 4 and have been for a while, but they never seem to get the developer support the Pi does. That's what makes the difference in the mid to long term.
A lot of us would love to see Haiku running on Pi5, an obvious natural pairing so I would hope the Pi5 team would give all the internal driver docs to the Haiku team.
Also looking forward to the keyboard version too.
I hate those hdmi ports 😅
I do hate them too. At least one full size HDMI was expected
I hate them, the 3b+ is the choice just because of the hdmi port.
finally the PI5 with great improvements, waiting also for a CM5 ! The only think there is no onboard eMMC storage, at least for now.
I wonder if 2GB or even 1GB version might limit the whole positive features and transfer speeds being discussed on 8GB version?
Or should 1GB or 2GB version are closer to Pi4 except the new SOC to keep it at low price point?
I hope that it will have enough stock for all the people interested and not only startup or little enterprises.
It is only available at retail for the first quarter. Industrial customers will have to wait until 2024, but they tend to work to much longer lead times anyway.
Raspberry pi 5 is a nice board , wil certainly order one when it's available in a 8 GB capacity
An interesting development would be an PCIe based hardware RAID hat. that would be a game changer in the the homebrew NAS market.
Agreed. This would be a really good development.
Many of Apples Mac products only come with soldered 8GB so it would be remarkable if any SBC had 16GB. I will buy my 8GB Pi5 ASAP.
How long till the release of the RISK-V RPi 6 ?
I was going to buy an Organge Pi because I really do not like the way Raspberry treated (dare I say abused)) the community. But, the Raspberry Pi ecosystem is rather compelling.
They are a great company, there was a *lot* of hate thrown at them last year and there are real people behind the social media channels, who were getting personal attacks etc. I’m glad that’s all in the past and we can focus on new boards and new possibilities!
In your opinion from a desktop arm computer user which one is better - Raspberry Pi 5 or Jetson Nano 4 Gb?
The Jetson Nano shines when it comes to realtime machine learning models, from a desktop perspective the Pi 5 is nicer experience.
They have got to the cost prices where a second hand micro is a much better way to go.
FWIW, Kevin asked out loud whether there are any SBCs with 16GB+ RAM. The answer is yes. I have an Orange Pi 3 with 16GB. Similar performance to the Pi 5, but more efficiency cores. They offer a 32GB Orange Pi 3 too.
I'm pretty sure the answer I gave was "yes". :) Are you sure you have an Orange Pi **3** with 16GB RAM (not eMMC)? I think you mean Orange Pi 5. :)
Chris just released his 500th video today. And, it included ducks.
It has to include ducks! :)
The absence of an eMMC socket is the one thing which gives me pause about the Rpi 5.
Q - RealVNC is a product that does not support Wayland and is still Xorg based. Does that mean Raspberry Pi have ended their relationship with RealVNC because of adopting Wayland?
You can still use X - I used RealVNC in the Pi5 so it’s still bundled and works fine
Thanks for the confirmation Kevin 👍
I was hoping for 16 GB of memory.
Any reason they couldn't offer this some time later? Its my personal standard on every device i use graphics with and I'm curious if this 8GB will be a new bottleneck or not. What do you think where you might need it at?
@@ifly2themoon171 16 gb would be real useful for win 11 ARM . more memory is almost always useful
yes yes all good but can it run switch games .... joke btw lol
£25 million spent by a charity and we never mention that.
Raspberry pi trading is not a charity, raspberry pi foundation is. They are separate entities.
@@kevinmcaleer28 wholely owned by the charity. Don't worry, even employees don't know the difference. They have been transfering the assets (trade mark) from the charity to the trading company for some time. The rename was a act to give the trading company more muscle than it was. It was simply a shell of employees. Unfortunately no journalist has reported this quick switch of hands. Morally you can't start of as a Charity and then sell off the assets to Sony.
@@oninbridders you can check out raspberry pi on companies house. It’s a legit entity. Not sure what you’re talking about.

Pro tip: when you ask someone how they're doing, it's customary to give them a second or two to answer.
Pro tip - don't be mean, it gets you know where and people think your a terrible human being. Being kind costs nothing.
@@kevinmcaleer28 my comment makes me mean, and a terrible person ? .... you should take your own advice, you lunatic.
