VLOG | ONE BAD SIDE | ARABIC CULTURE | SPEAK LEVANTINE | SUBTITLED

- This is a new episode of the series "Let's Speak Arabic Levantine".
This episode speaks about a weird thing that we do in the Arab World which is calling people by Doctor and other titles before the first name, that started to be irritating.
We call doctors: Dr. "someone"
we call engineers: Estaz (teacher/master) "someone"
we call teachers the same
we call pharmacists: Saydali (pharmacist) "someone".
Have Fun

thank you Rana u r helping us so much
You are super welcome
Great video again, Rana. So helpful to hear the natural flow of the language and to be able to pause on those subtitles and figure it out. So, I have a doctorate but here in the UK if anybody calls me 'Dr' outside of an academic context it just feels ironic, or slightly teasing ('ooo look at you, trying to be clever), or just downright embarrassing. I'd even say it's looked down on by other academics if you flash your title around in a non-professional context. I think people who've just got their PhDs do that a bit, but then they soon settle down, realise it's not that big a deal.
Thank you Jonathan!
It's interesting how this part of the culture differs from country to country but still exists!
Should I tell you Dr. Jonathan now? Haha just kidding (speaking of our culture).
Have a wonderful day 😍

Well done, Rana! This issue is no stranger to me, living in Brazil all my life. With a poor educational system, some of those who acquire a degree here do favour being called by a title first. Some even introduce themselves as "doctor ..." as if it is part of their given names. But I wouldn't generalize it because Brazil is a very large country with multiple layers, each with a distinct cultural background. Some professions though still enjoy some glamour and reverence: physicist and lawyer at the top of the list.
I totally agree with you, this is nonsense!
By the way, thank you for these subtitled videos you're sharing... They are a big help!
Thank you! Regina :))
This issue exactly like you mentioned! Those who only study to get a degree, not because they like it, are making life too difficult
Excellent
Shukraan ❤️
Great video and topic Rana! I love your vlog style vids so much! So helpful especially with subtitles in A3rabizi! As far as the pretentious people who depend on titles for self affirmation and identity goes…., unfortunately we have them here too in America. In Dallas I’ve met some this way. But they are definitely in the minority and most normal regular down to earth people think they are a jerk for trying to flash their titles. But like I said they are in the minority. I would actually be more impressed with people who are very wealthy or have achieved a lot of amazing things but have maintained and devolved a humility in their accomplishments and come across as just someone who puts their pants on one leg at a time just like the rest of us then a pretentious snobby person who gets a false sense of affirmation from money or status or ability. I dont respect that either. At all. Very well said Rana! Great video!
Shukran Zain. Exactly! This happens everywhere but we have it here more than other countries I guess, unfortunately
Here in UAE it exists only in professional meetings otherwise I don't think it is there.
Anyways , the video was so beneficial , keep doing this please.
Shukran kteer ❤️🙏
Its 3.30am here...I just missed the live stream. Great video though. Here in Australia we don't favour using of titles before our names.
Exactly! People who aren't selfish and only like to brag here, don't like titles either. But mostly they do
I really enjoyed this video. I really hate how people take the title and just run with it like they're better than everyone else due to their profession or completed education level. Why make a big deal about the title outside of the workplace and even then.. the job duties should speak for themselves.
It's annoying how people act sometimes! Thank you for commenting and letting me know your opinion, I love it 🙏
يعطيكي الف عافيه
الله يعافيك طاهر 😍🙏
Why no accurate translation.
Means no verbal translation.
Because when i paused your video and by looking your English subtitle i tried to make arabic but it is not verbally translated.
Mam im a big follower of you.
Your teaching way is good but.
If verbally translation other than literary❌️ is good
