    Hi Sue. I had been in the mortuary business and I can say this. The fluids and the stench are definitely coming from the crypts. I had seen it here in the USA but not nearly as much as in your video. I would assume they use mostly coffins and also alot were not embalmed. Even with embalming you can have coffin explosions if the mausoleum is not properly constructed. And by the looks of it with the age and size it wasn’t properly constructed. More goes into building than people think. Great video and thank you for taking us along !!

      I was wondering if this could be the case here. It definitely was before as there are articles about it, but they were supposed to have cleaned it up, and there were flies there too

      Caitlin Doughty from "Ask a Mortician" channel says it's all about "Drainage and vents" .. she even sings a song about drainage and vents. She is a brilliant advocate for natural burials, human composting (not like garbage), home funerals, unembalmed burials, etc and aquamation - which is the relatively new alternative to cremation that uses alkaline hydrolysis ( heated water ) to create the same product as cremains - or ashes - but is much more environmentally friendly. She has answered many of the questions people have about death, mortuary practices, and the various legal option we can choose when we pass away. She runs a not-for-profit mortuary, has written several books on death and dying, has toured the world to promote environmentally friendly end-of-life options, and I highly recommend her channel to anyone who is nearing the end of their life, or is close to someone who is - or if you're just interested in the processes of the mortuary sciences, human remains and different disposal methods. But she also covers much, much more - like mass human tragedies and natural disasters, and what becomes of the victims. She's incredibly likeable with a great sense of humour too! It will come for us all.

    These type of mausoleums are a terrible idea. They decay and fall into ruin and there is no one to look after them. Modern mausoleums are the same. 100 years from now, NO ONE is going to be paying electricity bills or fixing a leaky roof. They will all fall into ruin. Six feet under is the only way to go.

    If a person has been interred decades ago, there isn't anything to leak out of the caskets/coffins. There should be anything left.

Whoever and whatever this country is responsible too for not responding to these awful conditions. Another reason I rather be cremated the cost was too high and these family members weren't taken care of properly . Perhaps no one wanted to take over or those responsible are dead. This might sound strange, but the notion of a mausoleum burial is romantic, as depicted by the double photo frames connecting both spouses, or housing a family. However, after watching various cemetery clips, and the various problems with such a burial, it's not for me. I cannot imagine bringing flowers to a loved one and having to walk through that. People should not be exposed to that. I also bet those interred there never thought this could be a reality. Thanks Sue, for the insight. ❤

    Well I'm going to day that the wet spots now are all water as those niches are far too old to be fresh decomp leaking.
    This place was in far worse shape before they spent 4.5 million euros on cleaning it up.
    Modern mausoleums have an access to the niches and they will open the coffin lids a crack to allow gasses to vent and bodies to dry out.
    Unfortunately it very expensive to get repairs done on these enormous old underground crypts it can run into the millions.
    The stone working skills required it's hard to find stone masons to do it as well.

    These underground vaults are creepy yet sad due to the condition of some of the vaults. The little childrens photos touch my heart. There are many uncovered and empty vaults. Were the caskets with bodies removed and buried elsewhere due to problems with leakage? I've heard stories of such problems in this country in some cemetery vaults but probably rare since most are embalmed at well known funeral homes.

    I've seen recently a video of the same cript made by an other youtuber. He dit not mention any fies of odour problpm nor any leakage. In his video I also did not see any fluids on the flour. It is hoever correct to say that Belgium had more rain than usual the past 8 months. Also there are for I know no doors to close the cript, so cats dogs and foxes can enter as easily as you can

    I just don't understand who would think that laying their loved ones to rest in a place like this was a good idea. Beautiful as it may be in its own way, it's also incredibly creepy and isolating and I can't imagine it would have felt much different even in better repair decades ago. A little (or a lot) frightening to go visit mom and dad, or one's child, alone through hundreds of meters of maze-like, echoey, solitary corridors underground. I don't understand this.

    Judging from the skylights that crypt isn't that far below ground. I think all that water you see has sifted down from above. Most those crypts are so old that there is nothing left inside but bones, if that. So the water flowed, however slowly over them and out onto the floor. Yeah, I'm sure it smells bad.

    • @SerenitySueGraveyards
      @SerenitySueGraveyards  21 день тому

      Yes the water on the floor is just that, the discoloured marking on the niches was leaking from the bodies, it was in a very bad state years ago, so they got 4.5 million euros to repair them, looks like it wasn't completed in certain areas.
