When is Too Low TOO Low?

  • This week we have an old friend in for some much needed attention. "Basic Tune Goes Sideways" is in for all that much needed work to get her tightened up. Jim's bug is slammed! It also has blown out axle boots. This combo is a transaxle killer. Once we open up that gearbox, the damage is catastrophic. Nothing we can't get fixed.

    Good to see the “sideways bug” getting straightened up again.

    I really need to watch more of these George. The Demonstrations and explanations are top notch and thorough. Comprehensive and not condescending to viewers. You show us how to do everything, but more so make me want to just hire you to do it. lol

      The best part is, it isn't for the camera, or clicks. GT is just built this way. If it's worth doing it's worth doing right.

    No one in this space is doing these kind of detailed step-by-step repair videos except you. Fantastic work and much appreciated from those of us DIY’r’s out there!
    Maybe you did it in the description but supplier links for quality parts would be helpful. Extreme close-ups of all the detail would be helpful too.
    Again, another home run video about important air cooled VW repair/maintenance.
    I’m not sure about others, but I’m extremely interested in the shop tools you use, so brand names tool part numbers are all helpful to hear about. Thanks!
    By the way, who makes that parts washer I’ve never seen one that small. It looks to be the perfect size for a home shop.

    i’m glad i found your channel. lots of good content and its well paced. i want to keep watching so i can see what my car needs. the number 4 wire from the alternator to the starter really caught my eye. i need to look into this. my car had some bad work done to it from various shops before i got it. That car you have in the shop looks beautiful, soon to run beautiful too i’m sure.

    Unfortunately, most folks want their ride to look nice rather than doing things properly and performing preventative maintenance. Great video.

    I have the first or second gen wide 5 rear disc brakes on my 58. I noticed leaking axle seals. The instructions from CB never explained which bearing caps to use. I ended up using the late style with type 3 part numbers on them. Short axles and tubes, works much better. I had the exact type of leakage, but it appeared to be from the early style “slinger” setup. The 311 bearing cap is a completely different style, but sizing and depth were the same IIRC. Great explanations on everything else as I agree 100%. I seem to be that guy that people always hit up to troubleshoot and understand the details of many changes throughout VW history, and I can tell you know what you are talking about. Great work!

    I love your channel. You get to the point, you're a good teacher, and make things easy to understand for us that aren't mechanics. Since I have a bay, if you ever get a chance to film some type 4 motor things, that would be great. haha

    Cool story, I accidently flipped a fulcrum at some point and drove around with a chunky trans for probably a year. Well, it was more like glitter at that point. Also funny, Ran into John (RcTrans at Cal Ranch a few months ago). He always got me back on the road.

      I had dropped fulcrum plates for years. Only in tear down did I find the problem. Chased mounts thinking it was a nose cone.

    Should have done it years ago. Rides so much nicer. Not getting bounced around anymore.

    I wish you were in California I need a go through on the hole car.
    Spent over $1,000 on certain work to not even get a new belt on the car and have it come home with leaks when I had no leaks! Went looking for someone reliable and got the call next week so I stopped calling and now I for a great man to work on my car! I need a new engine! I need a bunch of work

    Now show us the condition of the (2) engine compartment seals🤔. A new doghouse cooling setup won’t help if the seals are bad or missing.

    • @the_Wagen
      @the_Wagen  Місяць тому +2

      They were actually in good shape. The firewall seal is upside down, but we’ll correct it.

    Hey George! Chad T here. You shortened my 69 chassis for a Berry Mini T in 2016 and I'm finally getting around to building it! Quick question. How did you cover the differential for the tamale when you put it in the "dishwasher" at 29 minutes in? Looks like you used orange duct tape? Any pointers here would be great! Thanks man.

    • @the_Wagen
      @the_Wagen  3 дні тому

      Duct tape. But I knew we were going to take it apart. So no water would stay in it. 👍🏽
