With a nearly month long vacation looming, and a pile of parts ready to assemble, work on our 2234cc EMPI Engine Battle motor begins! April 30th the engine build starts and over the course of four days & 30+ hours (spending 12 to 16 hour days at the warehouse) Sam takes the parts he's chosen, and spent numerous hours of work on already, and begins and finishes the full assembly of the largest engine he's ever built. The best part is, by the end, it runs and most importantly it runs well! Will it make the most horsepower at the EMPI Engine Battle? Probably not, but that really isn't the goal. Our goal is to make a powerful but more importantly to us, a street drive-able engine. An engine that is only good for all out power is fine for a drag racing car, but as most of us spend time in our Vintage VWs on the roads, that is what we are aiming for. Keep in mind that all of this is done by an enthusiast, much like yourselves. Sam has no formal training and is just a self taught (by the school of hard knocks and mistakes mostly!) guy that does this for enjoyment. Heck, this is only the 4th COMPLETE engine that he has built. So, follow along and enjoy the process of taking a ton of parts and turning them into a running engine!

Congradulation What a beast of an engine It roars like a lion Would love to hear it coming down the street Thanks for the experience of the build Good luck in the contest😇😇😇
Thank you, it will be a bunch of fun I'm sure!
Thanks for posting the build...
That's making the engine stand bounce when you get those carbs set and balanced that'll be some serious cruise engine
Looks and sounds great looks like all the hard work paid off 👍
Awesome work Sam. I can't imagine how good that feels to do. Can you show us one day how you do an engine test on the stand?
Absolutely, once we get back from the dyno competition I plan on going through how to sync the carbs and what not. I just didn't have time to film it before hand!
Sounds so good! I cant wait to see how it does. Nice work Sam!!
Thanks Kyle! I’ll have it at home tomorrow if you’re bored, maybe we can slap it in Nate’s Baja Bug really quick to take it to the car show at O’Reilly’s on Saturday! LOL
Nice job.
Nice work! Sounds like a beast.
Thank you, it really is! It would be a kick to drive in any VW!
Love it! is a link for all the parts in 1 kit?, or I have to buy different kits to make that whole engine?? thanks!
This was an a la carte build and at the moment so many of them are not currently available so it will be hard to list them all. When I get back from the dyno competition I’ll get to work on compiling all the parts and we’ll probably have them listed on a page on our website.
@@Sam_Mebane awesome!!! that would be nice!!! thanks!!
hi why don't you install a strait cut cam gear on this power full challenger engine ?🤔😁
Straight cut gears sound cool, for about a minute, then you realize how loud they are and want a break! I used to co-drive a Class 11 race car and after way too many hours in the car listening to straight cut gears, we decided against them for an engine that will eventually end up in a street car.
Hello! What happens with gearbox if you connect it with a powerfull engine ?
Nothing, until you drive it. At which point if you drive carefully the transmission might hold up for awhile. If you don't, you'll probably end up with a broken differential or a cracked case. Whenever you upgrade the engine for power, the transmission should be upgraded to suit.
Hi Sam, where can i purchase the mirrors on the blue superbeetle restoration?
I found mine on eBay. Search for "Universal 2 Pcs Carbon Fiber Vintage F1 Style Racing Car Left/Right Side Mirrors". I modified mine to fit the factory mirror threads.
Hi, valve sizes, cam specs pls...
The heads are EMPI GTV D-7000s with 44x37.5 valves.
