    I got my Q3 today and I highly suggest getting a third party data cable, especially if you play PCVR "sitting" sims like DCS or Racing titles. First off, the battery dies on you very fast and this is probably just a marketing tecnique to get people buing the external battery + kiwi heastrap combo (the stock strap is outright criminal). The data cable also has a USB-C Slot to attach the power cable and works in a smart way: while in use, the VR headset will not be charged, but won't discharge either, making it every balanced and avoiding overheat. So if you are at 90%, it will stay like that until you turn it off.
    The data cable is also a very good choice if your pc relies on Wifi, which is not the best with Meta devices as they require stable connection all the time.
    The light leak in the nose is also a very big bummer but manageable in a dark-ish room.

      Thanks for the suggestion! Definitely a good idea for sitting games

      I dunno what you mean by fast. For me my Pico 4 drains in about 90-120 minutes of PC VR and I know the Quest 3 can last a bit longer. Well, I suppose you also need to charge it for like an hour or perhaps 2 afterwards. I do rarely need more than that though (but I have an external battery just in case).

    Seems like a really fair assessment. Glad you're enjoying it and there are definitely some areas for improvement.

    Only having 80 hours on your old headset you’ve had since 2018 and only 25 on the new headset you’re reviewing I don’t think really counts.

    • @Vanity7k
      @Vanity7k  2 місяці тому

      How is that?

      @@Vanity7k Well, it's not a whole lot. But since it's mentioned in the review, I think users can decide how useful it is to them. Most of the reviews for the unit are from folks who haven't used it for more than that either. They use it a few days or a week and then push out a review for most part. But if you want the impressions from someone who used it for hundreds of hours... well, they're out there as well. It's usually best to look at multiple different reviews anyhow to figure out which pros and which cons are best for you. Someone who used it for hundreds of hours may mention something as a huge con which may not even be a con or at best is a small con to you. But since you've only watched that 1 review, you'll just take his word for it and maybe decide to not buy it as a result.
      Anyhow, it's best to just gather enough info when you're about to make an expensive purchase. When someone's gonna punch you in the nuts, make sure you know it'll feel good beforehand.

    I got the bobo halo headstrap, its night and day, and a must buy for comfort. Also you can flip up headset, also I completely take the facecover off so i never get uncomfortable or red face, and the batteries on strap make battery last allot longer

    Planning to buy the MQ3. What do you think is the minimum PC requirement to play that shooter game you are playing? What's the title?

  • @thenonexistinghero
    @thenonexistinghero 2 місяці тому +4

    It depends on your preference... strictly for PCVR, there are really only 2 competitors for the best in terms of bang for buck. And those are the Pico 4 and the Quest 3. The Pico 4 is cheaper, has a much better weight distribution and has a slightly higher resolution (which seems to be enough for there to be a noticable difference in screendoor effect since the Quest 3 seems to fall just a nudge too short to mostly eliminate it. The Quest 3 has the weight up front instead and is a bit more expensive, but it makes for a smoother experience and the wireless streaming quality is a bit better. And it has slightly better colours, black levels and contrast (but still nothing mindblowing in this regard). Battery life is also much better and there's a lot more comfort options for accessories (Pico 4 does have enough... but not as much. Though for both they don't exactly come cheap).
    In terms of price there's no competing with these 2 for wireless PC VR since nothing else comes close to that price. The Pimax Crystal has wireless PC VR, but the software experience is trash, it's insanely expensive, it's big and heavy, etc. Image quality, colours, black level, etc... all unmatched. But it's simply unwieldly. And everything else comes with wires (and if it can be used wirelessly requires a very expensive device to do that). It can fit people in a specific scenario, but as someone who has also used a wired VR headset for a while... it's a dealbreaker. Taking everything out, making sure cables aren't tangled, making sure nothing gets in the way of the cables, fitting the headset in such a way that the cables won't get in the way, the software experience, etc... with my Pico 4 it's just a matter of putting it on, clicking on Virtual Desktop and for some games I can already be playing them within a minute of starting the device up. Stopping is as simple as stopping the game, turning it off and closing down Steam VR afterwards with the mouse.
    Honestly it's a hole in the market. I'm hoping to see a good VR headset with pancake lenses with great black levels and an XR2 gen 2 chip for the best streaming quality at an affordable price. PC VR focus would be great, but I know the main focus of it will probably be to market it as a standalone device. I'd buy something like that for $500 in an instant. I think it's the same for a lot of people. I don't care about all of those different gimmicks that the ultra expensive PC VR headset makers are giving. I just want an affordable good PC VR headset without wires.

      @@Vanity7k Only 2 headsets so far, but I've done a lot of fiddling with them. Had a HP Reverb G2 (version 2) and while the image quality was very nice, there were also a few major downsides. Hard to say what caused the most discomfort. The constant readjusting because of the tiny sweet spot (max IPD was a bit too small for me), it being front heavy and wiggly, the cable getting in the way too often (no I can't rebuild my living room just for VR) or hell even the pretty much grey blacks. They're kinda greyish in the Pico 4 but in the Reverb G2 is was so bad to the point of it being bothersome.
      I think by now I've played a few hundred hours in VR. About 200 hours in Steam VR, but it's probably closer to 400 or something when also counting stuff not in Steam VR like watching 3D videos, just watching some anime episodes or simply just playing some games through it without VR. Oh and some standalone usage for gaming, but that's probably like 10 hours combined so far. I hugely prefer using PC VR and kinda regret spending few €150 or so total on standalone games that I don't really like to play because of just how inferior they look compared to their PC VR counterparts. Even the damn golf game... (also jealous of that Quest 2/3 exclusive golf game from Everybody's Golf's creator that actually features some nice looking women as you're golfing... nice character models in VR outside of porn games is already rare, let alone nice looking women in non-porn games. Doesn't everyone just want to send a ball flying after seeing a pretty woman?).

    For me, I have the BoBoVr headset and actually don't mind having it slightly away from my face with the Halo style configuration. I don't notice light from the bottom unless I look there, which can be a bonus to quick room orientation, but more importanly, because it is not pressed against my face, it breaths and I don't have the same fog up situation over time that my previous headset gave.

    I haven't done VR since I had the original PS VR about 6 years ago, it's come a long way. Just got a Quest 3 on sale at Target today and have to wait until tomorrow to get my aftermarket 15ft $15 cable from Amazon tomorrow. After playing with it a bit on native games though I think I will have to get a 3rd party headset and battery, going without any cables was awesome. Ran into a few hiccups... At first after setting my boundary I couldn't get a game to play, or should I say couldn't get one to display. The games would start but all I would see was my environment. After some resets and more trying eventually I got it to work. I hope that's not an omen of things to come. The pass-through video was cooler than I thought. No need to take it off to move around the house. The quality is decent, but it was hard to impossible to read the text on my computer's monitor with the headset on. My living room doesn't have a ton of space, I wish they'd keep the boundary visible on the floor while playing games so I could feel more free to move around. Walking around is awesome, but I don't want to take three steps in too quickly and run into something. It would be nice to be able to orient myself and center myself in the available space so I had maximum freedom of movement.

    • @Vanity7k
      @Vanity7k  Місяць тому

      That’s awesome! There’s a lot of settings in the boundary section, not sure but maybe you can rig something up to help you in your situation

  • @Gurtopolis
    @Gurtopolis 2 місяці тому +1

    i feel like a review shouldn't come without you also mentioning what came before, the quest 2 doesn't really care if something is in your boundary but when you boot up it makes sure you wanna use that boundary anyway. the quest 2 has bulky controllers that struggle to keep tracking if youre too fast. the quest 2 has about the same physical quality of the quest 3 (i wore one back in March because of a family friend but not for long, its very similar. the cameras are more indented on the quest 2. which i personally like more, because of my clumsiness and dropping it. the headstrap on the quest 2 does dig into your head if you have short hair. the battery is the same for the quest 1-2-3. i used the quest 1 and 2 and you name the 3. so that issue is mostly just because the quest 3 is an edited quest 2, the quest 2 gets the software updates of the quest 3 though so it cant handle the software updates sometimes and lags more. i got my quest 2 last christmas, i like it more than the quest 1 because on the quest one the view is more boxy, the controllers are more sturdy and break less easily, and the games run better.
    basically all to say what the quest 2 has and to compare to the quest 3, theres obviously differences that may be good or bad, quest 1 controllers were very slim and easily slipped out of my hand but in turn were easy to move fast, compared to the quest 2 which although i also drop have the pro of a more comfortable holding experience. you need to see whats old to appreciate what was improved on.

      Ouvi dizer que o video perde um pouco a qualidade porque o pc precisa comprimir o video para envialo ao head set. Porque a meta deixou de lado jogos em pc. O que acha?

    • @UnstableShield
      @UnstableShield 2 місяці тому +1

      @@vagner5229 if your wifi connection isn't great you can see artifacts from time to time from video compression. But in the steam vr settings you can set the bitrate to as high as possible. As long as you Hava wifi 6 and on 5ghz, you'll probably never notice the quality drop. Usually the quality drop is also only temporary until the network gets stable again.
      As far as I know, it shouldn't take too much resources from your pc to stream the video either. I think if you can run the game on your pc you'll be able to stream it. But I'm not sure, with my 4080 I can't tell if it's putting extra strain on it.
