About Scandinavian settlers (Swede over here): While the dream for a lot of people that went to USA was their own farm, a lot where forest or saw mill workers. Which in Sweden would never let them earn enough to by land to farm. But working a few years in a saw mill or laying rail or cutting trees made money in the US. I have distant cousins in US with a trio of brothers who went back and forth to the USA to work in Mississippi before 2 bought land in Oregon to farm and one bought a farm in Sweden.
Exactly. My ancestors are from Madeira Portugal and have small amounts of DNA from India and other places. My ancestors were merchants and sailed all over the place.
I have found that MyHeritage is pretty good with European, indigenous, and Middle Eastern ethnicities (I have all three). Not quite as good with African but they’re getting better. Generally, it helps to build your family tree to about 1750-1800 to get a good idea where your ancestry is from then compare. Plus taking multiple tests with multiple companies allows you to get an average & general idea of what you’re made of. Personally, my favorite companies by results are 23andMe and Ancestry w/ MyHeritage a close third. FamilyTreeDNA isn’t very good for autosomal ethnicity results but awesome for mtDNA and Y-DNA.

For the Northern Indian/Pakistan person - there was a reasonably long-lived hellenistic kingdom (for about 300 years or so) from the time of Alexander the Great... yes this is quite far back in time, but maybe that was long enough to lay down a small Greek/Southern Mediterranean substrate in the local area?
studies have shown that there is little to no significant Greek contribution to the South Asian gene pool as in those regions, ppl lack haplogroups common in modern Greek populations. Even if it was minimal, it was so long ago that it won't show up on any test testing ancestry within the last 500 years.

I grew up knowing I was a quarter Alaska Native. On Ancestry it shows 23% Native American for me and 25% for my brother. (We’re Tlingit from southeast Alaska) I know that I just happened to inherit a bit less of the NA. What I find fascinating though is that on MyHeritage, after they say I’m 22.7% NA, they also say I’m 7.2% Inuit. And I think that is accurate because in my Ancestry DNA matches I have a distant cousin who is 100% Inuit from Alaska. It’s curious that AncestryDNA doesn’t show that bit of Inuit.
The data size and type of the testing explains a lot for differing results for different companies. I tested on different sites just to increase my chances of genetically connecting with a particular region as I have a brick wall I’m trying to crack. Hoping someone I share this dna with will also test and we can have breakthrough.
Every testing company tests for different areas even in the same country. So you can be Italian but the area your ancestors lived isn't in their database. Or they will reference Italy as Southern Europe. I think this is why you should test with several companies.
For the Scandinavian in UK results we should probably also not forgotten the well-established sea traffic between West-coast Sweden / Norway and the UK for hundreds of year. It even lives on in the regional Scandinavian folk music where there is clear influences, and for that part the ballads that are shared between Scandinavia and Scotland like "The Twa Sisters". To add to all the other stuff about why the UK often has Scandnavian / Nordic mixed in there (Also where does the Faroe Isles end up in the estimates, that might also be relevant) As for where Scandinavians ended up in the US, for Swedes the major immigration was to Minnesota but as you said thats not everyone (In my own research I found a danish person that emigrated to Hawaii in the mid 1900s, that one was a bit surprising in how early it was)
I've tested my kids, wife and self on Ancestry. I found it interesting that despite my low amount (of tested) DNA for a couple of regions, just happens to be the ethnicity I passed the most to my daughter. However, it shows that I gave way more to her, than what I myself have. So, I will suggest the reason is because Ancestry isn't as superior as everyone says. It just happens to have a larger data base and is simply the most popular of the companies. This said, I'm waiting on my test from other sites as I write this. I plan to test around.
The Maori is (possibly) obvious in the New Zealand (North Island)... For some reason, MyHeritage has lumped it in with British Isles (the largest ancestry in NZ).
I wish Ancestry would not have done away with the range markers in the bar graph for each "ethnicity". They now just give some words and frankly people skip those usually.
I like myheritage i just disagree with the way they had predecided which 42 ethnicities they would highlight...there are hundreds of other ethnicities which are not pinpointed and this can ignite a lot of confusion especially among neighboring countries... what shook me with my results is that it highlighted Madeira of Portugal as one my only 2 high confidence genetic groups...i had absolutely no idea...from my dna matches i figured it comes from my paternal grandfather's side...could it be a mistake? Hi I had my DNA results from my ancestry last year: 74% south Asian, 6.1% west Asian, 11.4% Irish, Scottish and Welsh and 1.6% ashkanzi Jewish. On my ancestry I have 54% central and south Asian and 46% North Indian. My question is why are my results different? The European ancestry does not show up on my ancestry. When I got my heritage results, I contacted them 3 times to check if this is accurate as was completly unexpected. They insist it’s accurate and it still has not changed. My ancestry also insists they are accurate but no mention of the European ancestry. I’m very confused. Please can you tell me your thoughts on this. I just think my heritage have made a mistake. Is that possible? Thanks
I came up with a massive Scandinavian, my father was Dutch but mostly north Netherlands/Frisian as it turns out North Netherlands DNA is more in common with Scandinavian DNA on top of that word of mouth by my father who said some came from Northern Europe into the Netherlands in the early 17th century
Interesting video! So I uploaded my dna to Myheritage and I was very surprised by the different results! I have 6% Greek and south Italian, 2 % Central Asia, of course African, 8% Scandinavian.. ancestry showed 2%northern indigenous and 10% England w Europe. Is it just the different reference panels? No Italian showed on ancestry dna.
Myheritage is actually pretty good with European, indigenous, and middle eastern ethnicities but it's not very accurate with other ethnicities, atleast i don't think so, but atleast there getting better at it.

I tested with Ancestry and my sister tested with MyHeritage and our results could not be more different although they do show us as sisters. (I uploaded my results to MyHeritage) I got 28% Scottish and she got 0%. I also got a fair percentage of Scandinavian and she got very little of that. I would think our results should be more similar.
Siblings only share 50% of their DNA with each other, so that makes sense you’d have a different outcome. My Sister had a DNA test, (can;t remember the company though) but I’ve also just taken one with MyHeritage - I hope it works out! Lol! Some are saying they’re not very accurate - I’ll be able to tell because I’ve managed to trace my ancestors quite far back now - but my Sister’s results did seem to be accurate based on the evidence I’ve found throughout our family tree. I probably didn’t even really need to do a test, but I wanted to see if I matched with anyone else too and wanted to know about other information such as haplogroups, etc. Sadly, most of the family members I’ve tried to contact have not been interested in connecting with me - one even went as far as to claim they didn’t even know who I was talking about and that they didn’t have any of those names in their family tree - despite having full records of them and even pictures! I did 2 tests - one with MyHeritage and one with Ancestry. The MyHeritage results show 2.9% Middle Eastern which they seem to classify as anywhere between Egypt to West Iran, South Turkey to Yemen, however my Ancestry test had no mention at all of any Middle Eastern Heritage. I noticed on their website, however, that Iraq and Israel are not included in their testing pool (I assume they don't have enough samples from those countries). So would it be safe to say that the 2.9% showing on MyHeritage is likely from either Iraq or Israel?

My 4th-10th were also Spanish(6th-10th 31 ancestors which would be 0.4-2% for me), my 4th-10th GG were Irish and Scorch/Anglo Irish,4th-10th Scottish,1st-10th GGs were Welsh,German and Dutch 6th-10th GGs,I have no Swedish and Norwegian ancestors,and still don’t know my maternal grandpa’S father?
I have a question. I wasnt able to get a male in my direct descent line to test. Does that mean I only have 50% accurate results? And also, with the advancement in DNA always occuring, are you aware of anything on the horizon that will allow females to see what their nuclear DNA is without a male relative?
I haven't done a test that has it, but apparently there's one that tracks the female line. Mitochondrial, iirc? I've seen a couple of titles from genealogy people here on YT. Suggest a search DNA Maternal line, & see what looks might give you more info. Good luck with it!
I don’t know exactly what you mean by “nuclear dna”, but if you’re referring to the Y chromosome, which isn’t passed down to females, there might be ways of getting it tested indirectly, even if your specific ancestors have already passed away or aren’t willing to test. For instance, lets say your paternal grandfather has living (male) grandchildren. They’d have the same Y chromosome as your father, so you might get them to test to see what the results are and if you can find matched through that (pretty sure that’s only an option on family tree dna). Autosomal dna, on the other hand, is passed down regardless of gender.
On my DNA test everything was accurate but my North African was 5.3 percent in my Heritage while on 23&me it was just .2 percent. That is a huge difference of 5.1 percent.
MyHeritage will be more accurate, becUse it focuses on more for people of jewish heritage or from the east. 23 and me and my ancestry is more focused on the west.
Implicit in most discussions of this subject is the assumption that there are distinct types of DNA that can be, and are, distinguished from each other by the testing companies. I think this is a fallacy. To take an example there is no Irish DNA per se, but there is DNA found in the Irish population. It's variable like all human DNA and a range of variation can be observed in the Irish sample/reference panel and that can be compared with that in the other samples. A statistical distinction can then be made by the mathematicians working for the big databases. The result is then an estimate based on statistical probabilities. Or am I missing something?
This is something I try to reiterate and why I often say ethnicity admixtures at best give a pixelated view of someone's ancestry - it will give an idea but it won't tell the actual story. So while these percentages can certainly be helpful, the true power of the DNA tests are the genetic matches. These companies walk a fine line of being scientific with the data while also giving something to the consumer that is understandable. A big reason why I started reactions and this series, to help people understand what they might be able to extract from the results but also all the different possibilities. I guess another way to put it (similar to your Irish example), instead of thinking that there are distinct types of DNA (which is an unfortunately common assumption) it is more of what percentage of your DNA matches which tested population groups studies. So you are not missing something at all.

I seriously don't think my heritage has as large and diverse of a data base especially with native American ancestry because it gave me Papuan and Asian more than native American where I've never shown Papuan on ancestry and for my other percentage it said I was literally English from southern north America ? Like what the heck? I paid 49 bucks for it to tell me what I already know which is I'm from Kentucky in the United States! I wanna know where my ancestors immigrated from.
My heritage actually has a larger ethnicity difference. So their estimates are more accurate. Ancestry just has a larger base of people from less ethnicities
Got my results yesterday from MyHeritage. Im so bad at reading my results lol. I’m born in Sweden and have lived here my whole life. My mother is Finnish and my dad have said he’s Swedish. My results said: 56,8% Finnish (with some Russian results) No surprise here. 12,9% Baltic 12,4% Eastern Europe 10,4% Irish, Scottish and Wales 3,5% Scandinavian 3% central Asian 1% American ( I’m not including this one though) Should I ask my father to take a dna test when my Scandinavian results only are 3,5%? Or I am thinking wrong? 🤣 Sorry for my brain lol
Your mom could have a longer family history in Finland than your dad has in Sweden. But other than that, your results are mostly in each others neighborhood and so they could be coming from either parent. You could ask them both to test but If they don't want to do that, you could try testing at ancestry where you will not only get different results, but also be able to view a feature they have that breaks down your ethnicity percentages into parent 1 and parent 2 which may help answer your questions.
As someone with Swedish ancestry, I recommend doing 23 and Me. It was spot on with what I know from my family tree. Ancestry and Myheritage do not read Scandinavian dna well from what I’ve seen.
I took a My Heritage DNA test and I got English 53% Azores Islands Portugal 26.4 % Irish Scottish Welsh 8.9 % Scandinavian 7.6 % East European 4.1 % and with Ancestry DNA I got England and Northwestern Europe 42% Azores Islands Portugal Eastern Group 17% Scotland 16% Wales 10% Sweden and Denmark 5% Norway 3% Germanic Europe 2% Ireland 2% Jewish 1% Finland 1% Southern Italy 1%.
Id like people to talk about their experiences with the sites. I have family who uploaded from Ancestry to My heritage and get to see matches and shared matches, trees, etc. A family memeber recommended I buy My Heritage so the family covers the sites (unbeknown to me at the time you could upload). I bought 3 test kits for my immediate family with My Heritage. Biggest mistake ever. For a while I got to see nothing and couldnt work out what family memebers were saying about what they could see, completely free. After a year I emailed My Heritage and they 'gave' me access. But in the same breath, they took it away. So I have paid hundreds and hundreds of dollars and can see nothing, yet my family can still see everything. So I tested with Ancestry and uploaded it to My Heritage as well. The same thing happened, I could see my match information for awhile and again they take it away. I have to wonder why free customers are treated so well and paying customers are treated so appallingly. My heritage was a hugely expensive mistake but there is nothing on My Heritage to tell you. I wish UA-camrs would talk about it and not support My Heritage in the same way as it leads people astray.
Oh, you mean you couldn’t, see the results once you were no longer subscribed? My suggestion would be to screenshot all your stuff. It’s definitely messed up that they won’t allow you to see your results once you’re no longer subscribed - they’re sneaky! I definitely to remember to do this once at get my results. Once you’ve paid such a large amount of money to get DNA results, you should forever have access to them - so messed up. Maybe you could sign up to the free trial or something to try and get them back and screenshot it and then cancel it?
I've lived in England all my life and DNA says I had a high percentage in Northern England. Went down to English ethnicity and came back as 0% English how's that . 🤔
Albanians on myheritage are all lumped in under "greek/south italian" ethnicity... myheritage could have just added greek/albanian/south italian in the ethnicity estimate and it would fine...it just pinpoints about 10 genetic groups of albanians under "greek/south italian" ethnicity estimate
23andme is very different from Myheritage. 23&Me) German majority. English and Irish the rest with a tiny amount of Greek. Myheritage) Majority English, Scandinavia next with 7% Greek.
I used to think I was just as related to a Russian or a Turk or a Brit as I was to a stranger of my own ethnicity, which meant not related at all, I was very wrong.
You can be Sephardic or Ashkenazi Jewish & be in Southern Italy. I know this for 2 reasons. 1 because people came here to be protected in the mountains by Nazis. And 2 I'm moved here from the US to visit all the synagogues, graves & historical Jewish museum here.

I like myheritage's presentation but why are certain countries overrepresented appearing on their own( finland, england, greece, italy, nigeria, kenya,moggolia, sierra leone) whereas other even much bigger and totally different countries are lumped together like scandinavia, nortwestern Europe, eastern europe, western asia, balkans etc)?
Likely is one of two things; it's either due to a lack of reference population groups they have been able to test and study. The more testing, the more precise they can be in a certain area, so an area with little testing will be difficult. Or the other possibility is the natural difficulty in genetically deciphering certain countries/population groups from others because of so much shared ancestry. Of course, it's also likely some areas have both of these issues.

If you choose an ancient city in the Middle East say Damascus or Aleppo or others where there are ancient Jewish and ancient Christian communities and where the Christians were converted Jews, would their relationship show up in DNA? Many ancient Christian groups such as Orthodox and Coptic and Oriental Orthodox claim that in the first century AD they were Christian converts - see New Testament accounts especially in the book of Acts then early Christian history. It would be interesting for someone to do a major testing of Orthodox Christians and Jews in those connected communities. Also a major DNA testing of Samaritans…
My Sister had 0.4% Germanic Tribes in her ancestry, but I know for a FACT from researching my family history that we German ancestry, and it’s from a G-G-Grandparents, so the German ancestry wasn’t actually all that far down the line in the end. Strange. Our English ancestry drowned everything else out! Lol!

In pretty much all of them I've gotten aboyt 15-25% jewish dna(Sephardic or mizrahi). I dont know any relatives that are jewish. Could you help me out? I am Anatolian Greek/Italian
Sounds like you have a family secret to explore. I’d be starting with quizzing parents and grandparents. Maybe they know something and don’t want to share. Maybe they don’t know anything and might be interested in a dna test themselves.
Yes. For starters, get both your parents to test. My Heritage. If living and possible, get all four (4) grandparents to test. Even any living great grandparents. Or aunts, uncles, and cousins. The higher percentage of this that you can do would soon tell you exactly where you are at. Recall also that during the Inquisition by the Catholic Church about 1492 and other years, too, that many Jews were forced to convert to Catholicism and where this was successful, Christians would have Jewish heritage.
I think what can account for many surprises may be the fact that women always know who their children are, but fathers are operating on trust that the kids are theirs. I would bet there are many secrets of rape or affairs that never saw the light of day
MyHeritage showed East African DNA (Somalia, Ethiopia, Kenya) while the other two didn't. I thought it was an outlier until all three of my GedMatch kits linked me with ethnic groups throughout East Africa and the Middle East.
MyHeritage is good for certain populations... particularly Eastern European/Russian. Ancestry has the largest database and its growing at a faster rate than 23&me. That alone actually gives it prowess over 23 for European DNA. Japanese or Chinese based companies do better for those with Asian heritage for obvious reasons. The truth is, for the clearest picture... doing Ancestry or 23&me and whichever regional test suits your heritage best is best.
@@Chaotic_Pixie Yep! Same thing that happened with my East African ancestry also happened with Eastern Europe. Not prevalent on 23andMe and Ancestry (except for a little bit of Jewish) but much more on MyHeritage and GedMatch.

My ancestry also insists they are accurate but no mention of the European ancestry. I’m very confused. Please can you tell me your thoughts on this. I just think my heritage have made a mistake. I came up with a massive Scandinavian, my father was Dutch but mostly north Netherlands/Frisian as it turns out North Netherlands DNA is more in common with Scandinavian DNA on top of that word of mouth by my father who said some came from Northern Europe into the Netherlands in the early 17th century

Interesting video! So I uploaded my dna to Myheritage and I was very surprised by the different results! I have 6% Greek and south Italian, 2 % Central Asia, of course African, 8% Scandinavian.. ancestry showed 2%northern indigenous and 10% England w Europe. Is it just the different reference panels? No Italian showed on ancestry dna.
Myheritage is actually pretty good with European, indigenous, and middle eastern ethnicities but it's not very accurate with other ethnicities, atleast i don't think so, but atleast there getting better at it.

I mean could someone please explain which one I should believe and why so different??
I tested with Ancestry and my sister tested with MyHeritage and our results could not be more different although they do show us as sisters. (I uploaded my results to MyHeritage) I got 28% Scottish and she got 0%. I also got a fair percentage of Scandinavian and she got very little of that. I would think our results should be more similar.
Siblings only share 50% of their DNA with each other, so that makes sense you’d have a different outcome.
My Sister had a DNA test, (can;t remember the company though) but I’ve also just taken one with MyHeritage - I hope it works out! Lol! Some are saying they’re not very accurate - I’ll be able to tell because I’ve managed to trace my ancestors quite far back now - but my Sister’s results did seem to be accurate based on the evidence I’ve found throughout our family tree. I probably didn’t even really need to do a test, but I wanted to see if I matched with anyone else too and wanted to know about other information such as haplogroups, etc.
Sadly, most of the family members I’ve tried to contact have not been interested in connecting with me - one even went as far as to claim they didn’t even know who I was talking about and that they didn’t have any of those names in their family tree - despite having full records of them and even pictures! Lol! They didn’t have to play me like that! 😂 I’ve learned that German/Polish people are SAVAAAAAGE! Lol!

I did 2 tests - one with MyHeritage and one with Ancestry. The MyHeritage results show 2.9% Middle Eastern which they seem to classify as anywhere between Egypt to West Iran, South Turkey to Yemen, however my Ancestry test had no mention at all of any Middle Eastern Heritage. I noticed on their website, however, that Iraq and Israel are not included in their testing pool (I assume they don't have enough samples from those countries). So would it be safe to say that the 2.9% showing on MyHeritage is likely from either Iraq or Israel?

I have a question. I wasnt able to get a male in my direct descent line to test. Does that mean I only have 50% accurate results? And also, with the advancement in DNA always occuring, are you aware of anything on the horizon that will allow females to see what their nuclear DNA is without a male relative?
I haven't done a test that has it, but apparently there's one that tracks the female line. Mitochondrial, iirc? I've seen a couple of titles from genealogy people here on YT. Suggest a search DNA Maternal line, & see what looks might give you more info. Good luck with it!
I don’t know exactly what you mean by “nuclear dna”, but if you’re referring to the Y chromosome, which isn’t passed down to females, there might be ways of getting it tested indirectly, even if your specific ancestors have already passed away or aren’t willing to test. For instance, lets say your paternal grandfather has living (male) grandchildren. They’d have the same Y chromosome as your father, so you might get them to test to see what the results are and if you can find matched through that (pretty sure that’s only an option on family tree dna). Autosomal dna, on the other hand, is passed down regardless of gender.
On my DNA test everything was accurate but my North African was 5.3 percent in my Heritage while on 23&me it was just .2 percent. That is a huge difference of 5.1 percent.
Believe the one on Myheritage. 23andme seems to use a different algorithm for black Americans that steers them away from North and NorthWest Africa.
MyHeritage will be more accurate, becUse it focuses on more for people of jewish heritage or from the east.
23 and me and my ancestry is more focused on the west.
Implicit in most discussions of this subject is the assumption that there are distinct types of DNA that can be, and are, distinguished from each other by the testing companies. I think this is a fallacy. To take an example there is no Irish DNA per se, but there is DNA found in the Irish population. It's variable like all human DNA and a range of variation can be observed in the Irish sample/reference panel and that can be compared with that in the other samples. A statistical distinction can then be made by the mathematicians working for the big databases. The result is then an estimate based on statistical probabilities. Or am I missing something?
This is something I try to reiterate and why I often say ethnicity admixtures at best give a pixelated view of someone's ancestry - it will give an idea but it won't tell the actual story. So while these percentages can certainly be helpful, the true power of the DNA tests are the genetic matches. These companies walk a fine line of being scientific with the data while also giving something to the consumer that is understandable. A big reason why I started reactions and this series, to help people understand what they might be able to extract from the results but also all the different possibilities. I guess another way to put it (similar to your Irish example), instead of thinking that there are distinct types of DNA (which is an unfortunately common assumption) it is more of what percentage of your DNA matches which tested population groups studies. So you are not missing something at all.

I seriously don't think my heritage has as large and diverse of a data base especially with native American ancestry because it gave me Papuan and Asian more than native American where I've never shown Papuan on ancestry and for my other percentage it said I was literally English from southern north America ? Like what the heck? I paid 49 bucks for it to tell me what I already know which is I'm from Kentucky in the United States! I wanna know where my ancestors immigrated from.

Myheritage has a small database and very small test population.
My heritage actually has a larger ethnicity difference. So their estimates are more accurate. Ancestry just has a larger base of people from less ethnicities

I’m born in Sweden and have lived here my whole life. My mother is Finnish and my dad have said he’s Swedish.
My results said:
56,8% Finnish (with some Russian results) No surprise here.
12,9% Baltic
12,4% Eastern Europe
10,4% Irish, Scottish and Wales
3,5% Scandinavian
3% central Asian
1% American ( I’m not including this one though)

Your mom could have a longer family history in Finland than your dad has in Sweden. But other than that, your results are mostly in each others neighborhood and so they could be coming from either parent. You could ask them both to test but If they don't want to do that, you could try testing at ancestry where you will not only get different results, but also be able to view a feature they have that breaks down your ethnicity percentages into parent 1 and parent 2 which may help answer your questions.
As someone with Swedish ancestry, I recommend doing 23 and Me. It was spot on with what I know from my family tree. Ancestry and Myheritage do not read Scandinavian dna well from what I’ve seen.
I took a My Heritage DNA test and I got English 53% Azores Islands Portugal 26.4 % Irish Scottish Welsh 8.9 % Scandinavian 7.6 % East European 4.1 % and with Ancestry DNA I got England and Northwestern Europe 42% Azores Islands Portugal Eastern Group 17% Scotland 16% Wales 10% Sweden and Denmark 5% Norway 3% Germanic Europe 2% Ireland 2% Jewish 1% Finland 1% Southern Italy 1%.
I did myheritage and the results showed me 30% Italian and I don't have any Italian ancestors. How is that?
Border regions close to Italy usually DNA doesn't care about lines drawn on a map.
Id like people to talk about their experiences with the sites. I have family who uploaded from Ancestry to My heritage and get to see matches and shared matches, trees, etc. A family memeber recommended I buy My Heritage so the family covers the sites (unbeknown to me at the time you could upload). I bought 3 test kits for my immediate family with My Heritage. Biggest mistake ever. For a while I got to see nothing and couldnt work out what family memebers were saying about what they could see, completely free. After a year I emailed My Heritage and they 'gave' me access. But in the same breath, they took it away. So I have paid hundreds and hundreds of dollars and can see nothing, yet my family can still see everything. So I tested with Ancestry and uploaded it to My Heritage as well. The same thing happened, I could see my match information for awhile and again they take it away. I have to wonder why free customers are treated so well and paying customers are treated so appallingly. My heritage was a hugely expensive mistake but there is nothing on My Heritage to tell you. I wish UA-camrs would talk about it and not support My Heritage in the same way as it leads people astray.
Oh, you mean you couldn’t, see the results once you were no longer subscribed? My suggestion would be to screenshot all your stuff. It’s definitely messed up that they won’t allow you to see your results once you’re no longer subscribed - they’re sneaky! I definitely to remember to do this once at get my results. Once you’ve paid such a large amount of money to get DNA results, you should forever have access to them - so messed up.
Maybe you could sign up to the free trial or something to try and get them back and screenshot it and then cancel it?

Albanians on myheritage are all lumped in under "greek/south italian" ethnicity... myheritage could have just added greek/albanian/south italian in the ethnicity estimate and it would fine...it just pinpoints about 10 genetic groups of albanians under "greek/south italian" ethnicity estimate
23andme is very different from Myheritage. 23&Me) German majority. English and Irish the rest with a tiny amount of Greek. Myheritage) Majority English, Scandinavia next with 7% Greek.

You can be Sephardic or Ashkenazi Jewish & be in Southern Italy. I know this for 2 reasons. 1 because people came here to be protected in the mountains by Nazis. And 2 I'm moved here from the US to visit all the synagogues, graves & historical Jewish museum here.
That is because the ashkenazi carry italic Dna. During the roman empire they were brought to Italy, and some of them ended up with italic DNA...
My living dna assigned me 6% Aegean and 1.4% Arabic. I should be 12 to 13% Southern Italian. These could be admixtures of that but the % is too small.
Why do mention Irish, Scottish, and Welsh settlers but omit the English settlers., even though the person said in her message some of her ancestors were English southern settlers?

I like myheritage's presentation but why are certain countries overrepresented appearing on their own( finland, england, greece, italy, nigeria, kenya,moggolia, sierra leone) whereas other even much bigger and totally different countries are lumped together like scandinavia, nortwestern Europe, eastern europe, western asia, balkans etc)?
Likely is one of two things; it's either due to a lack of reference population groups they have been able to test and study. The more testing, the more precise they can be in a certain area, so an area with little testing will be difficult. Or the other possibility is the natural difficulty in genetically deciphering certain countries/population groups from others because of so much shared ancestry. Of course, it's also likely some areas have both of these issues.

If you choose an ancient city in the Middle East say Damascus or Aleppo or others where there are ancient Jewish and ancient Christian communities and where the Christians were converted Jews, would their relationship show up in DNA? Many ancient Christian groups such as Orthodox and Coptic and Oriental Orthodox claim that in the first century AD they were Christian converts - see New Testament accounts especially in the book of Acts then early Christian history.
It would be interesting for someone to do a major testing of Orthodox Christians and Jews in those connected communities. Also a major DNA testing of Samaritans…
My Sister had 0.4% Germanic Tribes in her ancestry, but I know for a FACT from researching my family history that we German ancestry, and it’s from a G-G-Grandparents, so the German ancestry wasn’t actually all that far down the line in the end. Strange. Our English ancestry drowned everything else out! Lol!

Can i ask you a question? I have done several dna tests. My heritage, Illustrative dna, Family Tree dna, genomelink, dnagenics, tellmegen, mylivingdna. In pretty much all of them I've gotten aboyt 15-25% jewish dna(Sephardic or mizrahi). I dont know any relatives that are jewish. Could you help me out? I am Anatolian Greek/Italian
Sounds like you have a family secret to explore. I’d be starting with quizzing parents and grandparents. Maybe they know something and don’t want to share. Maybe they don’t know anything and might be interested in a dna test themselves.
Yes. For starters, get both your parents to test. My Heritage. If living and possible, get all four (4) grandparents to test. Even any living great grandparents. Or aunts, uncles, and cousins. The higher percentage of this that you can do would soon tell you exactly where you are at.

I think what can account for many surprises may be the fact that women always know who their children are, but fathers are operating on trust that the kids are theirs. I would bet there are many secrets of rape or affairs that never saw the light of day
MyHeritage is just not accurate, I feel bad for people that waste money on it. 23andMe > Ancestry > MyHeritage
MyHeritage showed East African DNA (Somalia, Ethiopia, Kenya) while the other two didn't. I thought it was an outlier until all three of my GedMatch kits linked me with ethnic groups throughout East Africa and the Middle East.
MyHeritage is good for certain populations... particularly Eastern European/Russian. Ancestry has the largest database and its growing at a faster rate than 23&me. That alone actually gives it prowess over 23 for European DNA. Japanese or Chinese based companies do better for those with Asian heritage for obvious reasons. The truth is, for the clearest picture... doing Ancestry or 23&me and whichever regional test suits your heritage best is best.
@@Chaotic_Pixie Yep! Same thing that happened with my East African ancestry also happened with Eastern Europe. Not prevalent on 23andMe and Ancestry (except for a little bit of Jewish) but much more on MyHeritage and GedMatch.
