I like Ancestry. I find I can get more info without paying extra money. I prefer the layout of Ancestry.

I like them both and if you are a serious genealogist and want to break down your brick walls on your family lines the combination of both is powerful. I have been doing genealogy for 43 years being able to solve the biological families of 12 of my 16 GG Grandparent family lines via records, etc. It wasn't until the greater availability of DNA, matches, family trees and DNA tools a few years ago that I finally found the biological families of all 16 lines including the last 4 brick wall lines that were solved with the tools on both sites - especially those from MyHeritage.

I actually find the format on My Heritage easier to work with. I have had an account for several years and have built my tree on it. I also subscribed to Ancestry several months at a time to extract info to add to my tree. I think Ancestry has a better pool of information.
On a sidenote, all four of my grandparents came from Naro, Sicily. Tracking my ancestors does not seem very interesting, nor easy to decipher. Tracking my wife’s ancestors who come from Europe seems to be a lot more fun.

I started with Ancestry many years ago. I was attracted to MyHeritage enhancing and colourizing and bought an annual subscription a few weeks ago. And, I had a breakthrough find with MyHeritage in 10 minutes through their link with Family Search!
After I did the GEDCOM transfer from Ancestry to MyHeritage, I was disappointed to find, like you say, I now have to manually add over 400 photos.
Apparently, MyHeritage has more documents for Britain than Ancestry. I’m back into the 1700-1800 and need those British documentations.
I’m finding, like you, that I prefer the layout of Ancestry.
Now that I have both for a year, am I going to need to add people, photos and documents to both?? I’m afraid that I will. 🙄
    Thanks for your video!

I prefer ancestry... I find it easy to use and has a lot of information... however, I have found myheritage dna matches..have more matches with my European mother... but what I like to do to help control expenses is to down load my tree to my computer using Family Tree Maker and then sync both trees. Then if money is tight... I sync before dropping my paid subscription and then start back up again perhaps many months later. I do wish there were charting options on ancestry..... one thing I have done on ancestry census records...not sure you can do this on myheritage... that is copy and past into excel.. so I may search for all people with a particular surname in a particular place... and then past into excel to sort and analyze

I have been working on my heritage for almost a year and it is time to renew. My purpose was to match up my family with history to write a fictitious novel with characters in my line. It would be dangerous to use their names with the ones that are still living! I have difficulty reading the document records and understanding the process, and I have spent a lot of time correcting the inconsistencies due to my enthusiastic research! However, it has provided a great deal of entertainment, and opened my eyes to history! How do I save what information I have already obtained if I do not renew my subscription? I have spent at least 6 to 8 hours a day since July 2024 using both resources and do not know how to proceed. A little advice would help.

I actually prefer the MyHeritage format. I use it to build my tree, then occasionally get an Ancestry subscription for several months to extract additional info. I find that Ancestry does have a better document pool.
As a side note, all 4 of my grandparents came from Naro, Sicily. So, my tree is not very “interesting”, nor easy to decipher. Tracking my wife’s ancestors reaches into many European backgrounds. 12:11

I started with ancestry ancestry is cheaper and it has a bigger database so you can find more DNA matches. And then eventually I saved up the money to do 23andMe. But I like ancestry DNA better.

The MyHeritage software is a tad buggy. For instance, if you add an Engagement fact, MyHeritage will not save the date of the Engagement, but will save all the other information you enter, such as location or comments. Likewise, the Witnesses field of a Marriage fact is not retained. MyHeritage offers a free Family Book, but it's filled will HTML codes which make the book essentially useless. It's certainly not of Presentation Quality. When bugs are reported to MyHeritage, it may take weeks before they acknowledge the report, and then it's only a note that it's been reported as a bug, with no action taken to resolve the issue. They may get to it . . . eventually.
Ancestry has its own set of bugs. The software highlights the family group in a Federal Census record, and offers printed interpretations of the handwritten information. That's extremely helpful when it works, and extremely frustrating when it doesn't. The highlighted sections may or may not have anything to do with the people you're searching for. They may actually be on an adjacent page, or elsewhere on the same page, or nowhere to be found. The transcription of the handwritten text is often accurate, but sometimes it actually refers to another line on the page, or maybe on another page. I can't speak to the quality of their Customer Service, or how it compares to MyHeritage, but I can't imagine that it's worse.

You told us that the church records are good from Sicily. How are they in the rest of Italy? My family from the Piedmont. Also...how are the records of churches/ courthouses in other countries as well?

Not easy to covert black and white to color in photoshop. Too many steps to convert.
