A nice tip I learned years ago when marking the face plate on lock and also the receiver, screw them on and use a Stanley knife to mark around the edges instead of the pencil. That way you get super accuracy and no need to chisel pencil lines, just clear out inside the Stanley lines. Same works great with hinges.. Nice work..
Brilliant video. Just bought a house that's a doer-upper. Everything is from the 70s - so having to replace doors and handles and such. Don't have the money for a pro, but I'm fairly handy with DIY. But had no idea how to put a door handle on! This video was a perfect demonstration! Thank you :)
He didn't just butcher the door with the chisel because "you wont see it anyway" like most would, very careful and precise with the chisel, respect mate!
Top tip - when you decide where you're going to put the fixings on the door - just check that where it's going to meet up with the catch plate on the frame there's not a bloody great knot!
I'm so glad you showed the door closing afterward, just for - pardon the pun - closure xD Only the living room door in my new flat closes, so I'm looking at tweaking every other existing latch :P
Annoying how those latches have go so many curved corners, you'd think they would design them with square corners to make it easier to chisel. Good job though :)
Jamie Roberts that actually makes them easier to install in mass quantities, as you can make a jig and just use a small router, similar to radius hinges
I still don’t understand why the make these latches so wide that makes is more difficult to chisel out around the plate, or they should make the thickness of doors to a standard that will make it easier

Nice prompt, thanks)
Also why not to cut latch and face plate while door isn't hanged yet?
Always do this very good

Very good .now let's see if I can do !!😁
Thanks for this, is there a reason why the curved part of the latch 'tongue' has to go on the side that closes?
Just what I need not know for this weekends door fest 😅

А как на счет фрезера?
Thank you
Very informative as always 👍
How do you keep your chisels so sharp?
It is a brand new chisel
@@how2d223 niemożliwe:)
Sharpen it when it gets blunt
Bravo
You didn't mention the "Block" and to make sure it's on the correct side. Otherwise the handle screws do not have anything to grip!
👍👍👍
Gdzie masz kontownik.
Thank God for you showing how to do this. May I suggest safety goggles and gloves next time. Don't want you hurting yourself in any way.
Cindy Mc Pherson ahahahaha
This gentleman is not english and that why he is not obsessed about health and safety.
There are many similar projects in Woodglut's plans.
Not that easy, the latch cover was thicker than the original so the handle didnt fit,so necessitated chiselling it larger.
You need to do the work more professionally.
I'd love to see it done professionally by yourself.
....waiting.🙄

thank you for making this video, extremely useful!
