My kind of guitar player. I get kind of jaded by the Sea of UA-cam players, but you have great tone, phrasing and just the right amount of chops mixed with feel. BRAVO!!
I was looking for a video review of this exact combo. I already put a 36th Ann. PAF in neck position on a 2017 Les Paul tribute Gold Top Satin and you just sealed the deal! Sold! Will be ordering the Super Distortion immediately. Great licks and tone brother 👌
How much expression, feeling, dynamism... sweet while soft and an aggressive well seasoned and hot... I'll try to put this one Dimarzio SD together with the texas special in a Strato HSS... Thanks for sharing... success
Really, really nice!! I just bought a project Silvertone Les Paul and intend to put in the same pickup set: Super Distortion in the bridge and a PAF in the neck (just like Dave Murray had in his classic black Stratocaster in the 80s). Your video is a great showcase for the tone generated by that guitar/pickup combo!! I've got a Marshall Code 50, instead of the Line 6, but I should be able to dial in the same tones. Your playing is super good- great phrasing, bends, and singing notes- not just a bunch of fast stuff. Bravo!!
Damn. Doing some research for pickups and stumbled across this. Killer chops, killer phrasing, and yes, the pickups sound great. Love it when I discover new sources of inspiration for my own journey. Thank you!
I just wanted to hear the pickup sound and ended up listening all the way through for this amazing buckethead style song. Rock on man killer track there
Thank you very much for your great video 👍 For my DEAN V 79 (Rock/Hardrock/Metal), I was desperately looking for the matching neck pickup for my DP100 (bridge), thanks to you I found it now, DP103. This pair sounds just awesome 🧚♀️ Very best regards from Switzerland & thank you again, Stefan

Wow! I wanted to hear the difference between the two pickups because I am looking for a replacement humbucker for my Stratocaster HSS. That is one beautiful sounding Les Paul, I love your tone! You play very well, I like your style, I really enjoyed watching and listening to that! BRAVO!!
Well, you just made up my mind. I wanna change out the pickups in a project guitar I just bought, and wanted a nice fat sound. I have Super Distortion in several guitars, but want to try out other models. But, also wanted to try out the DP103. You really made the case for me to get both.

Hey Adam, thanks for stopping by and telling me your story! Gibson Les Paul is well known for having an issue with a tuning stability and proper intonation too. Vintage style klusons are not the best once for a tuning stability but I like the look and the overall sound of the guitar, so I don't bother to change it. To be honest, I have a problem with a tuning stability and intonation too. The nut is blocking strings unless I put some graphite on it. It's made out of corian material I believe. I don't know if it was cut incorrectly or just it's the way the strings angle on the headstock. In your situation I would check the neck stability first. Tuners and nut are good quality, unless the are damaged - I have a telecaster with a grover tuners and a tusq nut and it stays in tune forever. Maybe the nut is not cut properly? My advice is to check a truss rod adjustment first and check the cut on the nut(use a pencil graphite to make sure the nut is slick under the strings). If you are not skilled enough to do these things, ask a good luthier nearby :) Dimarzio PAF neck is so far my favourite les paul vintage style pickup. I'm still searching for a perfect match in the bridge position. Now I have a dimarzio Paf Master and really like it so far. It's more tight and clear than a Super Distortion but at the same time it's less pawerfull, more vintage and organic. If you have any questions let me know, all the best!
A year late but he's right about the nut. The material is good, the string slots need a little more filing by a guitar tech. You have "string binding". And remember to always tune up, not down.
Amazing playing! I think I saw that you had the 36th paf set in before. Do you prefer this over that for all around versatility? Also in this video which pickup is in the neck and which one is in the bridge?
Рік тому+2
Thank you Daniel! Yes, you are right. I had double dp103 and as well the anniversary set 36th. To be honest current set which is the same as in the video Super distortion bridge and Paf 36th DP 103 neck is by far my favourite. Anniversary set was very decent too but the bridge was a bit too thin for me. Hope that helps!
@ alright cool thanks for letting me know. When you say the the neck is a little too hot for pristine cleans do you also mean that it sounds too thinned out when clean to get a full enough sound to have that jazzy sound? How does this pup set fare for jazzy sounds when the pickup selector is put into the middle position? I’m thinking it might a nice there if that is the case. Despite this, It sounds like this set is pretty versatile though. Is this pretty much your preferred pickup set for playing pretty much everything right now?
Рік тому+1
@@danielgreenberg4751neck pickup has wonderful cleans. the one that might feel too hot is a bridge super distortion. I like it that way, but for jazzy cleans might overpower the amp, unless you use something clean like Roland jazz chorus :). Middle position is quacky and funky. I like it for clean chords in pop and funky styles.
Great playing!!! Waiting on a cheap pair as I type this. Which backing track did you use for this video?

Hej Herman, zagra świetnie. Pamiętaj tylko o potencjometrach 500kohm(powinny być w standardzie w ibanezie) i o szerszym rozstawie przy super distortion i paf(f spaced) zwykły może być za wąski. Pozdro
Do you think Tone Zone is much different (worse/better) than Super D? I' looking for great bridge pickup for my LP, and I can't make my mind...I always see Tone Zone/Air Norton combination in strat type of guitars, never saw them in LP...you think it would be wrong to install them in LP?
4 роки тому+1
Hi! I think TZ is much different than Super D. TZ is all about mids. It is dark sounding, powerful and loud bridge pickup. TZ and AN is a great combo because they both are dark sounding pickups and has similar tonal characteristics. I had this combo in an Ibanez RG and didn't like it much. Too much mids for me. You can try Norton or Air zone instead of TZ too. Air Norton can become muddy in les paul neck position. Make sure you will use at least 500kohm volume pots and 500kohm tone pots with TZ and AN in your les paul!
from what I've heard.. The Tone Zone is a darker sounding pickup to the Super Distortion.. So if you've a Les Paul type guitar with mahogany body you're better off with a Super Distortion.. They compliment the mahogany well. If you've a Alder or Basswood type body go with the Tone Zone as it'll suit the brighter woods of Alder / basswood.
Was the Super Distortion in the bridge? do you prefer it in the bridge? how does this compare to the Dimarzio D activator pick up?
4 роки тому+2
Yes I have 80's DP100 in the bridge. I had a D activator in the bridge for a month. It's not even similar to DP100. Dactivator has super tight focused sound, it's very bright and super clean sound. It has tiny body compares to DP100, which has great chrunch and muscular body. DP100 is more organic and has better dynamics.
Do you think this combination would work good in an Ibanez Prestige RG1570 with a basswood body and edge pro tremolo? I mainly play classic rock, blues rock, and 80s hair metal.
4 роки тому+1
Hi David, for an Ibanez I really enjoyed the Paf Master set, or the Paf Master Bridge and Dimarzio Paf DP103 neck. It has a nice bite and midrange bark which is really desireble in a classic rock and 80's metal IMO :) but this set will be just as good as in my Les Paul, just remember to order both in F space position!
Is the super distortion in the bridge pickup? I'm looking to put a super 2 in the neck position. Wondering what your thoughts would be.
Рік тому
Yes, super distortion in the bridge. I had a super 2 in the neck. Well it was around 2013, but as I remember it was a hot and fat sounding pickup. Good for distorted tones but I found it too fat for me.
Mr Adam - świetna robota! Backing track własnej roboty, czy jakiś ogólnodostępny? Improwizacja po jakiejś konkretnej skali?
4 роки тому
Do you prefer Super Distribution better than 36th PAF in bridge ?
4 роки тому+2
Well, to be honest they are two different worlds. I love the DP103 in the bridge and neck because it has a nice even sound with rock attitude. On the other hand the DP 223 is brighter and has an upper midrange bark which might not suit everyone. It's great for crunch, distorted sounds but sucks totally on clean sounds. Super D has this fast attack and perfect blend of power and vintage feel. Currently I have one DP100 from the 80's and it sounds a tad different(better) from the new one. I love it man!
Thanks for the reply Adam. I like sound sound of that 80s DP100 but there is something about PAF 36 It will be hard to decide. One more question Brother how is that 50s wiring changes the tone of the pickups?
4 роки тому
@@dominikgolebiewski5908 it just changes the way that volume pot works. It's something like a treble bleed. It takes less treble while turning down the pot. Plus I think with PIO caps it gives an extra woodyness to the sound! I love 50's wiring :)
just noticing your action in relation to mine.. yours seems perfect.. so you got low or medium action? I'm getting Super Distortion but paired with a Super 2 in the neck. in my Tokai Love Rock
4 роки тому
I have 2mm for low E string and around 1,5-1,2 mm for high E. I hit strings hard so they need some space to vibrate freely :)
@ since then I've got the guitar back and the luthier mate of mine set it to Gibson Les Paul spec action wise.. with Gibson size frets as it needed a full refret.. He also sanded and reoiled the fingerboard.. I dunno why all Les Pauls don't come coil tapped by default.. There'sso many tonal options now.. I can have strat type sounds or the full fat humbucking sounds.. As my pickups are coil tapped. Also had the tone pots replaced with 500K CTS ones. The guitar plays brilliantly.. I'd pit it against any Les Paul and would choose my Tokai Love Rock everytime. I chose SD and Super 2 cos of Phil Collen of Def Leppard fame. The Super 2 sounds great when coil tapped and played clean with a chorus pedal and with distortion.. :) love your demo.. that guitar sounds epic and your playing is very good.. I too use Exlir strings the Nanowebs.. I was strictly a D'Addario guy.. Not anymore I love the Elixir's.
The only thing I didn't like was the small difference between the two pickups. That was a bit surprising. The neck was just a TOUCH glassier sounding. Hmmm....
Рік тому+1
That's what I love about the neck dimarzio paf. It's fat and glassy. To be honest this is by far the best matching set I've ever had in this guitar. I might did not set the height right so you heard a subtle difference. Nothing to be worry about. Super distortion and paf dp103 are made to be played together!
It's the excellent pickup to play metal riffs. From Kiss to Iron Maiden and much more. If you want more modern metal sounding pickup try Norton or Tone zone.
I came to hear the pickups but stayed for your playing. Bravo!

Hey Adam! Czesc od Kanady! And a Big THANK YOU from Niagara Falls Canada -
I have burning questions ALL about your Les paul, I just got into the LP style guitar world and I REALLY

My *Les paul won't stay in tune* and I don't want to put thicker strings , my guitar has a decent spec to it and i like my guitars to play smooth/ easy with 9-46 i don't usually go up string gages from that maybe 10s for e flat

- I like big behind the nut ( fake whammy bar !) bends famously done by John Sykes and mastered by Phil X too so tuning is really important..
- using like 11 or 12 gauge strings is not an option i play on my esp vintage plus HSS superstrat with 9-46 so jumping up so many string gaiges probably will feel crazy stiff and just uncomfortable to play.
- do I need to just jump ship altogether and get 3 on 3 modern staggered locking tuners by schaller hipshot etc quality locking tuners and ditch the vintage ones if nothing else works ?

If you are not skilled enough to do these things, ask a good luthier nearby :)
Dimarzio PAF neck is so far my favourite les paul vintage style pickup.
Thank you Daniel! Yes, you are right. I had double dp103 and as well the anniversary set 36th. To be honest current set which is the same as in the video Super distortion bridge and Paf 36th DP 103 neck is by far my favourite. Anniversary set was very decent too but the bridge was a bit too thin for me. Hope that helps!
@ Okay very cool. Do you think the current set can also get good cleans and would be good for playing some jazz material as well?
@@danielgreenberg4751 neck pickup has a wonderful jazzy cleans (tone knob rolled off), the bridge might feel too hot to be pristine clean.
@@danielgreenberg4751neck pickup has wonderful cleans. the one that might feel too hot is a bridge super distortion. I like it that way, but for jazzy cleans might overpower the amp, unless you use something clean like Roland jazz chorus :). Middle position is quacky and funky. I like it for clean chords in pop and funky styles.
Great playing!!! Waiting on a cheap pair as I type this. Which backing track did you use for this video?
Thank you Jay! I believe it was something like hard rock backing track in e minor. I don't remember the exact name. If I come across this backing track I wil send a link here for you.
@ Sounds great!
I loved the sound very much..... I am also thinking to put dimarzio pickups on my Lespaul standard sound is super cool.... Can I get this guitar backing track? please!
Thank you Samuel! I have to find it on my computer or if I find it on YT I will post a link here :)
name of the track: Hard Rock Ballad Backing Track Jam in Em. If you can't find it on youtube let me know I will send it to you by wetransfer.
Hi is the super distortion in bridge and paf in neck? Is that best combination for these pick ups? Lovely tone!
Thank you Mark! Yes it is. SD in the bridge and paf in the neck. Currently the best for me.
Would you recommend the Seymour Duncan jb for 80s rock as well
Hi, yes I would definately. It's a matter of choice and taste. I think jb is even hotter than SD.
Hi, good playing man and Super Sound! DP100 Bridge and DP151 Neck?
Thanks Aleksandr! DP100 bridge and DP103 neck ;)
Incredible playing. Just to make sure I'm clear on your setup. It's the Super Distortion in the bridge PAF in the neck??
Hi Phil! Thank you so much. Yep, Super D in the bridge and PAF in the neck.
Alto solo!! 🔥
Thank you so much!
Kozak gra. Możliwe, że wejdę niedługo w posiadanie Ibaneza z Super Distortion 😅
Dzięki wielkie!! I jak ibanezik??
Awesome playing & tone! Sounds like a Plexi. Which amp are you modeling in your Line6?
Thank you mate! It was a plexi boosted with a screamer plugged into 4x12 20watt greenbacks :)
Super super super super 😎😎😎😎
That's the tone that Marvin Berry called Chuck about.
Edit: if you could put 40 minutes of this playing on a disc it would sell easily.
Do you think Tone Zone is much different (worse/better) than Super D? I' looking for great bridge pickup for my LP, and I can't make my mind...I always see Tone Zone/Air Norton combination in strat type of guitars, never saw them in LP...you think it would be wrong to install them in LP?
@ That explains why Ibanez put TZ and AN in a lot of their guitars with floyd, having known that floyd tends to thin up the sound... Cheers!
from what I've heard..
@ I'm gonna put a TZ & AN in my Jackson Dinky.. they'll match the brighter woods of Basswood / Alder better.. I'll be coil tapping those too..
@@BadaBing_ indeed the TZ & AN darkens the sound of a brighter wood.. I think a SD would sound too brittle and thin in a Alder / Basswood body guitar.
Was the Super Distortion in the bridge? do you prefer it in the bridge? how does this compare to the Dimarzio D activator pick up?
Yes I have 80's DP100 in the bridge. I had a D activator in the bridge for a month. It's not even similar to DP100. Dactivator has super tight focused sound, it's very bright and super clean sound. It has tiny body compares to DP100, which has great chrunch and muscular body. DP100 is more organic and has better dynamics.
Dobry wybór mam to samo w stracie tylko jeszcze w środku singel merlin hot Overwound.
Dave Murray secik :)
Do you think this combination would work good in an Ibanez Prestige RG1570 with a basswood body and edge pro tremolo? I mainly play classic rock, blues rock, and 80s hair metal.
Very Joe Satriani in style
Thank you so much, I love Joe!
Is the super distortion in the bridge pickup? I'm looking to put a super 2 in the neck position. Wondering what your thoughts would be.
Yes, super distortion in the bridge. I had a super 2 in the neck. Well it was around 2013, but as I remember it was a hot and fat sounding pickup. Good for distorted tones but I found it too fat for me.
@ ok thanks! I appreciate it. Would you say it's good for soloing?
@@CornDogAnimations definitely yes mate! Be sure to put a fat sounding bridge pickup :)
Super distortion bridge? And PAF neck?
Yes you are correct :)
What key is this? that felt nostalgic for some reason and I loved it. Phenomenal playing by the way
Thank you so much! I believe it was in E minor.
Do you prefer Super Distribution better than 36th PAF in bridge ?
@@dominikgolebiewski5908 it just changes the way that volume pot works. It's something like a treble bleed. It takes less treble while turning down the pot. Plus I think with PIO caps it gives an extra woodyness to the sound! I love 50's wiring :)
Wait, I thought superd/paf was best for everything! They are 4 conducted so the options are endless.
You'right Matthew!
🤘😎
Does this mean the bridge side is Super Distortion and the neck side is PAF?
@@klaatubaradanikuto7195 yes, that's correct.
just noticing your action in relation to mine.. yours seems perfect.. so you got low or medium action? I'm getting Super Distortion but paired with a Super 2 in the neck. in my Tokai Love Rock
Hmmm....
That's what I love about the neck dimarzio paf. It's fat and glassy. To be honest this is by far the best matching set I've ever had in this guitar. I might did not set the height right so you heard a subtle difference. Nothing to be worry about. Super distortion and paf dp103 are made to be played together!
I was wondering if you have the time. Is the PAF is in the neck position? And what wiring diagram did you use?
Hi! I use dimarzio dp 103 paf in the neck and I use 50's wiring with pio caps :)
Look at the Super 2 as an option to the PAF in the neck.. Lovely tone from that.. especially if you coil tap it.
Ur awesome bro! Guitar sounds bad ass too🎸🙏🏻
Thank you Roberto!
Is this pickup good to play metal riffs?
It's the excellent pickup to play metal riffs. From Kiss to Iron Maiden and much more. If you want more modern metal sounding pickup try Norton or Tone zone.
PAF Pro?
