Test drove one of these today. The interior fit/finish and styling are a huge step-up from last year's model. Replacing the legendary VQ35 V6 with an inline-4 is such an astronomical downgrade that is IMMEDIATELY noticeable. The new powertrain sounds worse, feels worse, makes more noise and delivers noticeably less power. Even ditching the CVT for a 9-speed auto can't save this abysmal choice.
For those complaining about Nissan’s Xtronic CVT, the Murano is the vehicle to thank for that. While I still loved the old Murano, this new one looks really cool and the interior looks pretty nice too. My only problem is that I don’t think this will be enough to save Nissan. I don’t want Nissan to go away completely but they’re in trouble. Oh also I miss the 3.5L VQ V6, RIP.
It’s not a bad transmission. I’ve heard people say it’s not good based on it not shifting well because of the dog clutch, but yes, the ZF 9-speed is a good transmission if it is programmed well. Honda and Acura definitely programmed it well in the later years, FCA/Stellantis programmed it horribly (felt super lethargic), idk how well it was programmed in the Land Rover Range Rover Evoque, and Nissan definitely programmed it well in the Pathfinder. Again, not as good as ZF’s own 8-speed, or even their older 6-speeds but it’s not the worst transmission.
for the PRICE! A HUGE VALUE!!!! I just really hope HONDA + Nissan TEAM UP! I had a nissan for 3+ years and drove it daily a juke nismo and never left me stranded.
I always enjoy your efficient analysis of new cars. Too many reviewers waste time with joking around. I really like this new Murano. I own a 2015 Nissan Pathfinder with 70,000 miles. The prior Murano was basically a two row version of the Pathfinder with the same 260 up V6, basically identical in the front row. I also have a 2009 Toyota Venza with AWD and a V6 260hp engine with 65,000 miles. I am planning to replace the Venza with a new 2 row AWD and am focusing on the Toyota Crown Signia Limited and the new Murano. I really like the Signia's electric hybrid AWD system which gets around 35 mpg, similar to my daughter's 2022 Toyota Sienna hybrid AWD minivan, but I am disappointed that the sunroof does not open, and there is no heads up display. It does have a video rear view system, which I am sorry to see missing from the Murano. One oddity I found when I drove a Signia was that it had NO 12 volt power outlet. That is a concern for me because my wife depends on a portable oxygen generator, which plugs into a household 120 volt outlet or a standard 12 volt car outlet. A certain number of empty nesters like us need 12 volt power for various medical devices, which cannot run on USB ports, because they are powering oxygen generators and fans. Even though the Murano fuel economy is not competitive with the Signia, it does have a 12 volt plug and the under front console stow space where we could put the oxygen generator. Another alternative would be another Sienna.
My only concern about this car is the Nissan variable compression turbo engine. I can't believe Nissan spent so much money developing a complex engine with questionable reliability that doesn't get better mileage or power than the V6. Had they just stuck with their old V6es they would now be distinct in the segment.

They did a great job Rest in Peace RX. Nissan managed to make a better Lexus with better style inside and out, better tech, more features, more room, more trunk space, and better performance for the dollar
@ but the RX also uses 4 cylinders too The base turbo is a lot slower than the murano. Even the base hybrid is a lot slower. Who cares about fuel efficiency at this point? If you want to barely beat the murano in performance you have to get the 450h+ which starts at over 70k and you don’t get any more power. You only get 300hp. The 500h is quicker yes but is it $20-25K quicker? Not so sure about that
the design is dope, the front however they should have used the japanese concept design instead, but they knocked it out the park on the inside and rear. Super hype they ditched the CVT. However, a hybrid version with this motor would make more sense since the gas numbers are slightly worst with this new motor. They should just used the pathfinder 3.5 getting 284hp which would have been a 24hp increase, and the gas numbers would have probably been the same if not better, same direction they should have done with the infiniti QX60 to warrant almost 60k price tag. I dont see this lasting too long either but hopefully I'm proven wrong.

Why does the nissan rogue have so much more cargo space? What i dont understand about some of the midsize cars from numerous automakers is why arent the midsize crossovers not midsize sized inside? Same with the old venza hybrid verus rav4 hybrid, etc
Curious what your take is on the ongoing news that Nissan is in serious financial trouble. My lease is up in April and I would like to consider a Nissan vehicle, perhaps even the Murano, but I keep reading the company is less than a year from losing financial viability.
That's disappointing that Nissan decided to ditch the venerable VQ35 engine in favor of a 2 liter turbo considering it is rated at the same MPG. I'd rather pick the Kicks and save 20 grand in the process.
Sorry agree with the interior upgrades but for over $40k I get a turbo inline 4 cylinder? What will the longevity be? Judging by what is already out from all automakers in terms of powerplant and transmission matings I cannot see shelling out that kind of cash for an ICE platform at this point.
Nissan has “raised the bar” too late in the game. With losses mounting and slowing sales, Nissan leadership announced major cuts across the board on November 7. 2024. Production of the Rogue and Frontier, both produced in the U.S., is going to be drastically reduced. Describing the situation as “emergency mode,” Nissan is implementing an aggressive series of cutbacks to stave off further losses.

@XX-166 really? I have 2 KIA with the V6 engines GDI and they don't burn oil. I think you are a bit confused with the old 2.0T and 2.4L
@ you were confused when you bought the GDI, your results don’t compare with the service requests of owners.
@XX-166 😂. I think you forgot to take your 💊 .

Will Nissan survive 2025 though?
I really wish they survive. Nissan means a lot to many of us, despite the challenges. The first saloon I saw while still a baby was the Nissan Sunny and it made me love the brand.
@@marlonsukura530did everyone miss the memo about the Honda deal?
@@DayTuckErrJoobzi was just about to mention this
Why does the nissan rogue have so much more cargo space? What i dont understand about some of the midsize cars from numerous automakers is why arent the midsize crossovers not midsize sized inside? Same with the old venza hybrid verus rav4 hybrid, etc
Go to see a review with a road test
Is that dreaded CVT gone?
Thank god no more CVT
Looks better than an infinity…
I guess nissan did not learn from the mistakes of other brands like VW and put haptic buttons that NOONE wants in their interior
Nissan spent all their money on the interior and took an egg for inspiration on the exterior
Had me at 9spd auto
My 2003 Murano has no piano black, 2025 has piano black everywhere . NISSAN, PEOPLE DONT LIKE PIANO BLACK.
Great car. It’s great that it’s a car for adults. Full bench seat. Enough with these vehicles with captain chairs and useless 3rd row seating.Generous truck space . 4 adults and luggage room. No problem.Took it for a test drive.1) 52k plus added mark ups, fees and tax.It just came out so no discounts.2) It is definitely sluggish.3) THE RIMS. They are half alloy and half plastic. I noticed how cheap they were the second I walked up to car.Sorry , but I just couldn’t justify almost 58k for a Nissan.
The Front looks like they took a Ferrari’s 12 Cilindri and stretched it downward 😝
Subwoofer over the Spare?
Love the looks and the inside, hard pass on that 2.0 liter VC engine. Bad gas mileage and doubtful long term, even short term reliability. Former long time Nissan owner here.
