Love these videos. I am kinda lost learning my drum machine (TR-8) and these videos help a lot. I like that it is general and I can apply it to my machine. How can I be creative on a drum machine? I want to "jam" but can't really figure it out.
Hey Matt, we're so glad our videos are helpful to you :) There will be Drum Machine 101 videos on jamming and improvising, but that's far in the future as there are still a lot of basics to cover first. My advice for now would be this: Making music is like any other language - you have to learn to speak it first. Listen to your favourite songs and try to hear what's going on in the drum track. In the beginning, imitating other artists helps you build a vocabulary. For me personally, transcribing patterns was the most helpful. It helps you to see how different instruments interact with each other. It was a slow and painful process at first, but over a few weeks I noticed that my mind became used to thinking in the 16-step grid and it became easier for me to place my ideas onto the sequencer without so much trial and error. If you're interested take a look at our Patreon, I already put a few transcriptions up there.
@@CaptainPikant Thank you so much for the reply and advice. Initially I didn't think the drum transcription would be all that informative but your the third person that said it was game-changing. I can't wait for what you have in store for us, all the content has been helpful.
I’ve had my Maschine Plus since it came out and before that I had a Novation Circuit, although I picked up on the Maschine a lot quicker I am still figuring out how to get to a confident place with it, I just found this channel and I really do love these videos, they are helping so much and very inspiring, and especially since I have been leaning towards giving it all up very very recently
If you want to see masterful jamming on a drum machine, check out some videos of Egyptian Lover playing live sets! Thank me later 😁
@@prodbyraen I will do that, but I’m more into learning how to play myself, I’ve watched all sorts of videos of others doing it.
You deserve more views just for the art and animations. You must put a ton of work into this.
can’t imagine how much effort you had put into these episodes. it’s just amazing
Thanks Mehmet :) :)
feel like i’m stumbling onto something that’s going to be huge. instant subscribe. can’t wait to see how your channel develops friendo! glad to have another elektron video maker :)
Your production quality is amazing. These are so fun to watch!
The level of production for these videos is insane. Definitely deserving of waayyyyyy more exposure. Kinda crazy that these videos don't have millions of views, because you definitely deserve it.
These videos are immensely helpful, as my beats sometimes feel lackluster. It's definitely one of the more difficult aspects of music production, so I really appreciate the guidance on offer here. I will definitely be watching every episode!
Thank you so much :)
In love with the stop motion
hidden gem on youtube
I'm floored by your quality❤️
The quality of your videos is incredible. Pro stuff!!
“If you accent everything, you accent nothing at all.” Super zen!
From one musical rabbit to another, great job on your videos.
One trick I like is using an LFO to modulate say a snare’s velocity or a high hat’s decay. 🐇
The level of production here is insane. You are a talent my friend, well done!
Enormously helpful immediately
Brilliant video on all levels, thank you! I learned a lot AND my kids liked it!
Arturia DrumBrute Impact - I enjoyed using the accent as 'standard' for the Kick and Snare so i could use the non-accent hits for subtle sort of ghost hits. Very fun understandable machine. Love your videos :)
This is really fun to watch!!
Holy guacamole, I would watch these videos several times for the artstyle and animation alone! Well done, sir.
i'm so surprised this isn't at millions of views!
i love digitakt and i love stop motion and i love this
This video was amazing. I feel like I've learned so much more about how to use Drum Machines in a less bland way now.
How did it take me this long to discover your channel?? I've had a Digitakt for nearly a year now and this is exactly the sort of basic, easy-to-follow beat breakdown that so many other channels often fly right past and assume everyone already knows. Ridiculously top-notch, entertaining production too!
This videos are so great because you talk about the basics, something that most people just gloss over, I love the style and stop motion it's so entertaining.
using Digitakt as a typewriter was genius, that's exactly how it feels using that thing lol (and I love it so much)
I enjoyed this video. It's pretty and smart. Thank you
Lol the typing sound on the Digitakt. Man, this channel is slick, 1k subs? Not for long!!
Production quality of these videos is deeply impressive. Amazing work!
I can say this now, this is my top 3 best music channel in youtube. Gonna get a drum machine this year!!!
Thank you, very intelligent high end videos. 👍🏻
awesome videos, just commenting to feed the algo
This is from far the best channel on YT, the quality of the content and the animations are supadopaa
yeay electron samples!!! please more tuts on how to use it please :)
The most beautiful way to teach music!!!! Love love love it!
Thank you for sharing this amazing work. 💚 So fun to watch

Beautiful editing and nice content! Keep on the great work
SO SO AMAZING. Thank you for making these. Visual treats!
This is insanely high quality and informative. Thank you!
These stop motion things are amazing
love the quality!! very clean, thank you:)
Amazing
Well done video,!
I was planning on having something on while I fell asleep but after watching half of this video I'm definitely not going to sleep. Hugely impressed with the creative editing and your teaching skills. INSTANT sub! 👏
playing the flute riff from "Sledgehammer" at 2:37 only to close on Phil Collins is the worst trick you could've pulled on me 💀
these videos are fantastic. i've spent a lot of time playing drum machines but will watch anyway for the production value - just incredible!
I like it like a child. Your sound design the stopmotion parts. This ones should be explanation videos for young musicians. So sad you have not so much describers, likes and views.
Lovely channel
amazing content
😁incredible channel
The advice and the production values on your videos are remarkably good.
Thank you so much :)
These videos are cool enough as it is but as an animator, this stop motion is AMAZING! Subscribed!!
Damn your videos are great
Phenomenal series, love the production value an editing. Please keep at it!
Great video. Keep them coming. I have an Alesis SR-18. Im excited about learning how to use it. Maybe you could use it in your videos.
Super fun. Thanks!
And thank you for talking about the drum machine like an instrument and not a curiosity!
seriously, like the last video, this is just truly amazing!
thank you man
Amazing quality! Keep it up 👍
AMO ESTE CANAL
Awesome channel...just the way I like learning....simplified.
Wow! Amazing quality of the video, I loved the stop motion animation, keep it up
Great video and superb production - youtube bar raised!!
Your videos are amazing!! Love the stop-motion parts and the entire concept.
AHHHH, this was so GOOD! Thank you for making such an awesome video, really special.

This was informative and entertaining, thanks for the video!
Great video! Subscribed!
What a great video. Love the production and explanation. Subbed!
The stop motion in particular. So awesome.
Your animation is hilarious
I don't own any of the presented gear and I know what accent is but this video is simply captivating ;)
I’m kinda bummed out you showed the Digitakt in the (loved it !) intro but didn’t use it in the video.
very coooool series. but wth are those giant jelly beans? lol
Awesome series! Great production. This episode is 102 though
I’m just playing a cheapo boss drum machine, but these videos are still helpful.
Some of the greatest electronic musicians used extremely cheap gear, you have infinite potential in your mind!
Which Boss? Some like the 660 are cheap and ridiculously good.
@@hogbowlbeats it’s a dr rhythm dr-5. Yes it was also very cheap, about £30.
@@thelastfeast3849 What a steal, lol.
Ютуб не справедлив! Такий контент повинен бути в рекомендаціях. Картика ТОП!
What an ingenious piece. I came in expecting something totally different. Like going out on a family dinner and getting laid
also...beat bunny merch, yes please
That would be awesome 😊 What do you have in mind?
02:27 ..... You could have a steam train!!!
This channel is unreal. The production quality is absurd. I feel like I should be paying a fortune to watch this.
This series needs an award.
Hey captain! As a drum machine guru, which one of elektron models u prefer? samples or cycles
Since I don't want to spend so much time digging through samples anymore I prefer the Cycles :)
A video on just the animation alone. Omg
Please explain how to program rhythms in 3/4 time. And how you program fills to emphasize turnarounds in a chord progression. Thanks!
Hi Christopher, you'll be happy to hear that this is already planned for future episodes of Drum Machine 101! But it will take quite some time to get there because we're just two people doing this in our spare time. But keep an eye out for Episode 3, it's practically around the corner 😄
@@CaptainPikant Wonderful! Thanks again!
I pity the person or people that had to shoot and edit the stop-motion animation section. That stuff can drive someone insane. Nice video!
Editing wasn't actually a problem at all, but creating the scene with the candies drove us nuts :D
Hey what is that that puzzle thing that busts apart at 1:56
That's a rekubus 3D puzzle.
God Wes Anderson should hire you!
0:01 I don't know who she is but she has a voice like ear candy 😌
Question, was the German acccent a concious decision for Captain Pikant? Silly question, I know. But the whole production value is so Wes Anderson is it really just chance?
You honor us with your comment! Wes Anderson has been a huge influence on both of us here at Beatbunny Studio. As for the German accent... It would have been a minor stroke of genius to uphold an accent until the "Accents" episode of DM101 - and in general to make everything more Wes Anderson - but I fear there is a much simpler explanation for why we both have these flawless authentic German accents that we can't seem to get rid of.
Do you know examples of songs with accent on beats 2 and 4?
In case you mean *just* on beats 2 and 4... not from the top of my head, but I'll get back to you if I stumble upon one while making a transcription :)
@@CaptainPikant Thanks. I should 've been more clear. I mean accents on the bass drum in a four on the floor pattern and its variations. On beats 2 and 4 instead of 1 and 3. I ask that because in the most simple beats, that's where the snare is more likely to be. And if we go back to jazz, people count on twos and fours. So I wondered, wouldn't that make more sense than going "default" and accenting the odd beats?
I love how your fingernails stay yellow all along lol
I dont understand what you mean at 4.16, you say very often accents are placed on beats 1 and 3 and then you say so steps 1 and 9 at the same time as accenting beats 3,6 and 9, i don’t understand that bit, where is beat 1 in 3,6 and 9 ? what am i missing 🤷🏻♂️
If you have a rhythm in 4/4 time signature (which is the case nearly all the time in pop music and also this tutorial) then one bar consists of 4 beats - that's when you count 1... 2... 3... 4... 1... 2... 3... 4... and so on. These beats are quarter notes and thus correspond to steps 1, 5, 9 and 13 on the grid.
6:55 what a mood! :heart.eyes
This is awesome, very informative and beautiful visuals.
