I have no words to describe the level of production. Thank you so much for the honest work you do. You are The Content Creator with 'the' and Cs capitalized.
Thank you so much :) :)
It truly is great work!
The fingernails!?
Amazing!
05:04 The two different styles of animation of our rabbit friend to show swung fluid vs robotic movement is a beautiful touch
Mr. Rabbit housin' it up for real. Jack has his groove.
The quality of your productions is just unreal
You've explained so simply something I've been struggling to understand. And it's so refreshing to see something with its own distinct visual style that doesn't have a thumbnail with a guy pulling a face going "Is this drum machine feature the worst thing to happen to music?"
😆
The dancing beat bunny is soooooooo cute 🥺
Guys, I know nothing about making music in any shape, way, or form.
But there is something about every little detail in your show that keeps me coming back for more.
The quality of this content is insane! I can't imagine how much effort you guys have put into it
These videos are so incredibly well made. I can’t get over it. The animation, audio, editing. You’d expect this sort of production quality from a high budget production with multiple several working at once,
Thank you so much :) :)
The video editing is top notch!!!! Bravo Captain!
Thanks! This one was a real challenge with all the scene changes :)
@@CaptainPikantThe effort is greatly appreciated.
high quality content
I want that rabbit cameo in every episode following. Thanks.
I absolutely second that. I hope we get to see the bun in more videos.
this is the gold standart of thoughtfull and entertaining education - amazing
All that is really very interesting, but wow, just need to say is, the visual style of these videos ist best I've seen on YT, so cohesive and pleasant, just unbelievable clean, well, perfect, kudos to you!!
Thank you so much! :) :)
The production level is off the charts with this video....again....
Great video!
When I explain it to my students I always use the word "galloping" too :)
You know what? *unshuffles your tequila
How dare you!
God dang.. above anything else, this channel possibly has the slickest and most satisfying presentation.
Important thing to note: the swung 16th note feel is more associated with hip hop and certain electronic genres, whereas the swung 8th note is more associated with blues and jazz, occasionally rock music with a very subtle swing.
The old timers were enigmatic about swing because the particulars of how delayed the even beat was played a huge role in the sound of the song or genre of jazz, that couldn’t be reduced to the “quarter note then 8th note in triplet time” oversimplification. As this was the days before electronic timing, musicians couldn’t be all “63% swing.” It really had to be felt instead thought of analytically.
This is meaningless as Jazz "swung 8ths" on the ride are often written in double time compared to blues and rock and sound like swung 16ths. Actual swung 8ths are "shuffle" like the blues shuffle. This means that using academic subdivisions is pointless. Basically if it feels like triplets missing the middle, it's a shuffle, if it feels like sets of 2 with the first longer and you can't count 3 or play in between the two without it feeling nonsense it's swing. I would argue once you get to jazz tempo, it feels 100% like 16th note hip hop swing but slower rather than blues shuffle but faster. Around 120-170bpm. Hip hop swing is double time at 80-95bpm for comparison. Blues is around 70- 100bpm at normal time. If you want to write Jazz swing as 8ths you're at 120-160 bpm. So you're effectively playing a little slower than hip hop swing, but almost double blues shuffle. As you can see, it's jazz notation that's misleading here in that your comment using notation conflates jazz and blues even though jazz swing is more like the hip hop you imply would be double as fast
Part of their obtuseness is also that this "swing rhythm" is only what the rhythm section did. I've seen a study of someone taking an exact look at what the soloists did over this rhythm, and it included playing a straight rhythm that is delayed so the off-beat 8ths match up with the rhythm section and many other funky things, which they did by exact listening & feeling it out rather than putting numbers on things.
@@dliessmgg Where can I find that study please??
the nail polish matching the background color swing on/off was an awesome touch
also that cover of tainted love was incredible!
Thank you!! :)
Absolutely LOVING the stop motion parts, well made!!
A good friend recommended this to me, because I am not a musician but I do love excellently produced videos about interesting topics, and this did not disappoint. It seems that the old lyrics are true; it don't mean a thing if it ain't got that swing. Keep up the wonderful work!
This is explained very well!
Congratulations on the video, I think you are the most patient person in the world
I’m astonished by the effort of presentation you use in this video. Not least your knowledge and ability to communicate ideas in a simple and entertaining way. This is outstanding. I don’t think I’ve seen anybody on UA-cam go to such lengths and I am grateful and privileged to have stumbled across you. If there is an Artists’ Heaven you’ve definitely earned your place. Many thanks and please keep up your generous and informative work.
Amazing vid, we'll share with our students in audio engineering and production!
Haha that's awesome, thank you! :)
I always (emphasis) enjoy both your understanding of music and the instruments, as well as the high entertainment value of your presentations.
But, the animation of Beat Bunny dancing Swing, outstanding.
Keep up your excellent work. Cheers.
Thank you so much :) :)
Wow, I'm very impressed with great, simple explanation and editing is totally on another level! Thank you!
Your videos are always a treat to watch and your stop-animation was a very nice touch. Thanks for making this!
Massive leap forward in animation, bravo!
Thanks Capitan Picante ❤❤❤
Incredibly well put together, your videos are amazing. Both production quality and in information presented.
beatbunny’s got moves
@4:18 When talking about swing/shuffle... yeah... the one track that comes to mind!
I was actually wondering about this during the week. Thanks for the explanation and thanks for the outrageously well crafted video.
Excellent and clear explanation. Production is as good as always and it always make me smile. Thank you again for this.
Thanks Albert! We're really glad we could finally continue the series :) :)
Always love your production style
Thank you so much :) :)
great editing, great visuals, great explanation, great video, great channel
Thank you so much :) :)
Well worth the wait! An outstanding video and I can't express how much I appreciate the time and energy invested. Please I hope for more and for more sooner 😊🥇
Phenomenal video as always, I especially loved the Tainted Love rendition at the end!
Her nail polish game is on point!
Hammer. Die Qualität dieser Videos ist so unfassbar auf allen Ebene. ❤❤❤
This was amazing and looked stunning. What a ride!
Y'all are getting *really* good at this.
I was just thinking about this today while driving around and listening to Parov Stelar. Somehow I always think about making music when I'm driving, but when I'm at home I don't know where to start.
aaa this is so goood, greatly enjoying the visual details too, shoutout to the bun animations
this video is absolutely next level wrt the production technique. such a fun watch!
Yay!! I love this video, I am routinely asked about swing, so Imma suggest this to folks when it comes up 😊. The examples make it much much easier to understand than me, like, trying to put it into words.
Plus you distribute a never ending earworm with "Tequila" ;) Thanks by the way for recommending Famisynth II, we used it extensively for the chiptune sounds!
This is sooooo perfect in every aspect!!
How tf is the production on this channel so good?
Amazing as always! Love that you took the time to point out how -stupid- fascinating the swing implementation is on certain machines. Keep up the inspired (and inspiring) work!
Your videos always but a big smile on my face! Love you guys!❤
Whatttt in the world. This is incredibly well made. Honestly, it's kind of overkill! But at the same time it's perfect, it's so kinetic and *tactile*. An absolute feast for the eyes and ears, and informative too.
Phenomenal work as usual Captain!
Zero fat in your explanations, easy ti understand, and highly entertaining. I have to hand it to you...
Your videos are on a totally different level. Well done!
Outstanding content. Props to you!
Consistently amazing! Looking forward to reading the chapter and book! 📖 thank you 🙏
Another incredibly well produced video! Y'all just keep getting better and better, and it's wonderful to see.
Thank you so much for your kind words :)
So beautiful and easy to understand. Bravo! ❤
Very clear explanation of swing. Thank you!
Great video! So much goes into these I’m sure. Love it.
thanks for the video, had fun, learned and stuff
Always great videos!! Thank you! ❤❤❤
Incredible video, thank you
People say that electronic music is mechanical, and they are right. If Wendy (aka Walter) Carlos had just programmed the notes into her Moog for “Switched On Bach” it would not have been a hit. But she didn’t do that, she added “Swing”, just enough to make the music come alive, like a good classical concert musician would.
Awesome and inspiring as always! 😊
This was helpful and fun!
Amazing. Thank you.
Incredible ! C’est magnifique !
That bunny tho 🐰 I am in love
There's a jazzy shuffle and the brazilian swing, they differ, but your video is useful for understanding both. Of course, feeling them is better than calculating displacement in a grid.
Thanks- excellent educational content
Well done, sir!
Yeaaaahhh this was a really good one!!
Thank you so so so so so so much!!! Amazing how you are improving video after video!!!
You're my absolutely favorite music channel!
Why is this the best YT Channel on earth?
Another great video!
“if you have to ask what jazz is, you’ll never know”
Ah yes, Louis Armstrong. He even has a song called "What Is This Thing Called Swing?" in which he explains ABSOLUTELY NOTHING ;)
Unless you ask someone who’s a good teacher
I live you videos Captain! 🐰🙌
In my last marching band show there was a section that was swung and the tempo was written 8th note triplet (quarter eighth) = tempo so I think of it as that
That rabbit is adorable!
Thanks!
One good thing even if it's a bit funky on the TR6S and TR8S with how they handle swing is it allows you to swing early which while uncommon on drum machines isn't actually that uncommon in music with more traditional instruments especially in jazz were swinging one way or another isn't uncommon. Also the weirdness with the swing range doesn't bother me as swing is something I dial in purely by ear like I would performing jazz live. My biggest complaint as some one with a strong background in jazz is most DAW and hardware will only swing the even steps when some times you want to swing the odd beats. Usually microtiming/nudging will let you manually swing the odd steps when you want that as it is actually useful in some circumstances especially if you want to emphasis the drunken feel swing can bring to piece helping emphasis the intentional unevenness of steps.
True! That's what I love about the older Elektron machines, on there you could create a template which steps the sequencer should swing :)
Now that is a cool trick.
10:00 its weird to me that I recognized that first example as a sort of rhumba rhythm, but then it blew my mind when it started sounding dubsteppy on that second example beat
This videos are so pretty ❤
Dancing bunny is so cuuuuuuute :D
I just found gold.
Another terrific video, so creatively presented! Thank you! …. What is that typewriter? I’ve been looking for one like that one.
Thanks so much magnetoclash! The mint green typewriter is a Remington Speedliner, the yellow one is an Erika Modell E 127 :)
Soft Cell. Excellent outro🐰
Swing/Shuffle for me, is how to make a track less "static".
That's another good way to put it :)
The concept of “swing” is what humans bring to the banquet of music.
take a shot every time a new hand appears
This might not be the best episode to start that drinking game ;)
@@CaptainPikant almost made it too tequila🤣
Thank you for this! Did you determine the shuffle/swing math of Roland vs other gear with any documentation or was that all just listening to differences? I want to keep my shuffle-swings similar and the math between devices is a little loopy.
Hey Jumbo Dubby! We couldn't find any documentation on the TR-6S shuffle, so we actually recorded all the shuffle levels individually so we could determine where they fall on the Linn scale :)
I learned to “swing” in my teens from listening to 1930’s dance music. It is impossible to play it without “swing”
the bunny omg
SALIBA!!!😆❤
it's so funny how her fingers look like they are dancing on the keyboard 😅 (i mean funny in a really cool way)
127 swing smells like it's MIDI CC controllable.
Tbh it’s a really simple but people just don’t want to explain. The worst is it’s really easy to explain.
💛
Go Beat Bunny!
