As a former sous chef and someone who cooked professionally for 10 years please bring your pot to a boil before you drop the crabs in. An already boiling pot will dispatch the crabs in seconds versus a long slow death as the pot reaches a fatal temperature. Even if you don’t care about the crab or how it feels when animals are killed in stress the meat is adrenalized and can become tough and take on gamey/fishy flavors and smells. Trust me on this one you’ll be a better cook for it. 👌🏻

As a born and raised marylander, some of my favorite memories as a kid was crabbing with my Dad. Summer isn't summer without Crabs. Make sure to have some Ol Bay to dip the meat in.

I’m a food scientist so it’s just one of those facts I know. I try to recommend to everyone to dispatch shellfish first bc they do indeed feel pain

I like to drop them into whipped eggs. Then i lightly flour them. I lightly spray them with oilive oil. Then i place then into a large slotted tray and place on a hot bbq. I close the lid and check when the flour is toasted light brown. Like 10 minutes tops. I drizzel melted garlic butter and feast. Every person who tries my crabs always say its the best they ever had.
No one uses old bay anymore, because it is very expensive compared to JO; which is another really fucking good Baltimore seasoning company out of beautiful Arbutus/Halethorpe.

Blue crabs are awesome eating in Florida. A big part of my childhood was catching these guys on long-handled nets in a creek in our backyard. 2 or 3 sessions a month with my brothers would net us about 15 each time. Damn im hungry

Smells good too with the old bay thrown on top. Let me know if you try this. I’d like to know if you like it.

Go Maryland!!! My family cooked them like this when I was growing up and I hated to hear the scratching. Now I Ice my crabs first. I like to layer the seasoning and a little in the water not just on top. It might not actually make that much of a difference since they are steaming and the water drips back down over all the seasoning and crabs. I like to use less seasoning so sometimes I clean before cooking and use just a light sprinkle over each layer (smaller batches).

I like to use less seasoning so sometimes I clean before cooking and use just a light sprinkle over each layer (smaller batches).

@@EddiXPit’s definitely not the most humane way, THEY ARE BEING BOILED ALIVE. Animals feel pain. One quick stab to the head and they die quick and painless and it won’t change the taste of the meat unless you cook it right away.

And no I’m not a vegan I’m just tired of people causing unnecessary suffering to an animal. I hate to admit it but I always thought the title of the video was the description😬until about a year ago when I actually went to look for a link couldn’t find it and went to the comment section for help and some kind people told me about the 3 dots hiding in the top left corner where all the information hides😂 it really should be a different icon or something more noticeable.I don’t think we’re the only ones that didn’t know this either bc a lot of UA-camrs put links and other info pinned in the comment section.

as a child, we would like to listen for the last crab banging on the side of the pot...and we had caught the crabs ourselves!! Win for the grandparents, we're out on an old dock with a peanut butter sandwich for lunch, and they pick us up in time for cooking entertainment!
