Rap music has promoted degeneracy in the black community for years. It is great that they have evolved, but there is nothing wrong with acknowledging that their music has caused damage that we still see today.

Yep! Not to mention, Loni's hypocritical "ain't had a hit since the 90s". Sure, stop putting each other down...but there she is, literally in the same breath doing exactly what she's upset about. Someone's words aren't worth less or less true because they don't have a hit. Let's not value people's words by their wallets.

Raven wasn't wrong at all. They still rap about that stuff, it isn't a part of the past. If they have evolved, then they should evolve in the music also. Everyone deserves a second chance of course, and no one is perfect, and most of us have things in our past we are not proud of and regret...but most of us don't have the platform that they do, so we don't have the influence they do to affect people and younger generations.
Then, there's the argument that art has no boundaries because it's art, and artists should not censor themselves for others...the point here, though, is that Raven wasn't wrong at all.

I see where the original poster is talking about... and I also see why people see the rappers side of things...I do agree that old school rappers did talk about their environment and what they went through and etc. but there’s also new age rappers that do glamorize the use of drugs and sex and alcohol in today’s songs more often than if iit were to happen back in the day... old school rappers rapped about the reality of things going on in the community.... new school rappers glamorize all types of drugs from Molly , Perc, Xanax, Coke & etc

I'm from the same type of neighborhoods in Brooklyn NY, if the children are seeing these types of behaviors those who have made it out of that type of environment and are now living in the types of environments that are of a better nature than where they were from should produce music that inspires their own people, and would uplift the community. Artists like Lauren Hill, Michael Jackson, even Black eye peas ( I only know a handful of black eye peas music I'm referring to the song "Where is the Love") Five year olds should not be singing about ho's and paper. This kind of music produces more people like this type of degrading behavior. The Bible says "By Beholding you become changed" Go Raven I completely applaud you!

You're either a good honest person or a bad dishonest person, anyway you make that choice every single moment of your life.
Making mistakes and making bad decisions are 2 completely different things. How do people still make the same fault in using the two?
A mistake is something that unintentionally happens when you're unaware of it, like forgetting a ingredient when you're cooking. A decision is something you are aware of, you made, did with intention. Cause if you kill someone, steal, cheat, lie that ain't no mistake, that is a bad decision you made and were aware of.
People who use the "I make mistakes" are trying to make it seem less important, like it was nothing. When in reality, it is important, it matters.
I agree with the quote "Every saint has a past and every sinner has a future" but in my eyes T.I. was just stepped on his toes and didn't like it and used the quote to make his past actions seem "okay".
Raven Symone along with other people just called those rappers out for their horrific bad past decisions and I mean the truth is the truth.
It really doesn't help to then pretend it never happened when in fact it did. I mean so far as my knowledge goes, Raven hasn't made any serious bad decisions, so yeah. Her actions/life are/is more honest and pure. She doesn't have blood, lifes on her hands as some of those rappers/people. Cause no matter how positive you may be now, your past actions, decisions are still yours.
Cause we aren't focusing here on how they are now, we're telling them their past.

Looking back on this girl chat, I disagree with the ladies. Raven and Speech said nothing but the truth. The issues listed are the issues we see so much on social media today. It’s almost 2022. And it’s important to say that the songs they’re making now aren’t really topping the charts like the music from back in the day. That would be nice if it did but the reality is .. young men see the way in which they became successful so they will try to follow the blueprints that have been lived out before them. Believe it or not, it’s often times used to justify wrongdoings and whatnot. So, yes they are successful, but they were and are still harmful to the black community, black women especially.

Though I see the point of views of Raven, T.I., and the ladies on the View, I am disappointed at the way the women lashed out at another female (Raven), the same way they were saying Raven should not have commented on the photo of the male rappers. Ladies, why don't we respect ourselves and each other. Raven's tweet was 100% on point. However, I also agree that the men in the photo, many have turned their lives around, but many also still sing those derogatory lyrics about black women and the black community. Yes, we can listen to other rappers who are clean and positive, but let's not forget the men in that photo are very influential to our young people today, whether they live that same "truth" they rapped about or not.

I don’t agree with her but i do appreciate her view and respect it... This isn't a right or a wrong it is a matter of HER opinion and she has the right to her opinion! We always have to “ correct “ or call out somebody because they have a difference of opinion... she feels the way she feels and has the right to voice her opinion and TI has the right to disagree with her... but to come for her and make it about her being on a “ high horse “ it seemed it a bit much... make it about the music and your craft and not about the person who made the post !

I hear what they are all saying. With that said, a lot of these rappers don’t rap about how bad the gang-life, gun violence, running the streets, etc. was and how they made out of it. Rather, they rap about guns, bi*ches, etc. as if THAT is what got them to where they are at. This then misdirects young boys & girls who think imitating these rappers and this type of lifestyle will get them somewhere, when in reality thinking the street life is cool will get you into trouble.

That woman, who smashed up the child controller, whilst recording herself doing it, then, having the barefaced cheek to set up a go fund me page, asking for $5,000 to replace an item she deliberately vandalised, that isn't valued at a fraction of what she is asking for, should be prosecuted for forgery, extortion and child endangerment! She is a premeditated crook!

The well was and already is poisoned, so the rappers that are trying to be the voice of reason is too late! You've already embedded this image and lifestyle in our young men whilst being rich. They probably have changed, but its going to be hard to convince these young men that it's not a way to live to get where these rappers are!!

Raven and Speech spilled. They completely missed the point. The picture wasn’t the problem, nor was it was was being questioned. The integrity of the people in the picture was what came into question. If a kingpin got out the hood by rapping about slanging drugs, then went legal and started a chain of hotels, but only taught children how to sell drugs... that’s a problem. Period. Teach these kids how to make it out, not how to continue the cycle.

Can we talk about how rap literally is mostly build on bad stereotypes, about black people. Theres a difference about rapping about ur issues and past. But now all rap is about, how many women u get, flexing money, cars, houses, drugs, cheating and girls. Im sorry girls but im with raven. We gotta admit rap have caused a lot of damage and build on mostly stereotypes about the black community. But also there is ALOT of great and inspirational rappers out there, but cmon these men raven was talking about, are also the men that put women down(especially black women) and be cheating. And lets not forget about TI taking his 18 year old daughter gyno!

What Speech and Raven is agreeing to is that unfortunately images and words matter and it effects our mindset self esteem and how we view our self as a race. If these men have alot of money because they were paid to talk about violence and put their women down, they sold out. Yes they are famous and have money and I don't think they care or ashamed of it. I think they feel they did what they had to do for money and now that they have it they will do charities. Ok so that's good for the charities. But people have a view of black people and particularly about black men perceiving black woman and we were not honored. So its kind of sad that the panel is not addressing the disregard for women. its a lack of love and annihilation of the black spirit. Hopefully the rappers on their new platform that they sold their race out for can educate themselves and apologize to the black people by saying what they did was not right. Not sure if that is going to happen. So I'm glad Speech did not sell out and had integrity from day one. He didn't worship money over God and his black people.

For one what raven said wasn’t a lie . Two loni literally says “we need to stop degrading our own community” then in the exact same sentence says “he mad he ain’t have a hit since the 90’s” that’s very contracting . Three , it DEFINITELY does happen within other races . Let’s stop making “black on black crime degrading etc” a thing that’s just what the media wants us to see . I agreed with loni up until she said that & don’t get me wrong I love all these ladies & this show .
