Wow I haven’t heard this in a long time love it thanks Biz
Sweet! er Sweet Leaf! Ha! This dropped when I was in sixth grade. I remember listening to it on the radio quite often. The disguise was thin but the groove and the instrumentation were fire so the song passed inspection. It was also before Nancy Reagan, "Just Say No" and all that. Fun fact, Rick James played bass in a band with Neil Young in Toronto before either of them became famous. They even got signed to Motown but the deal fell apart when it was discovered that James was AWOL from the navy. The demise of that deal was one of the factors that led Neil Young to move to Los Angeles where he eventually connected with Stephen Stills to form Buffalo Springfield. James worked through his predicament for a few years before making his way back to the music business. "You and I" was another of his radio hits before "Super Freak". Check it out too.
Nice one biz. I was lucky enough to see Rick James live at the Las Vegas Hilton back in the 90s. It was 🔥🔥🔥
WPIX 11 New York SOUL ALIVE. Rick James Funk does not get any better than this..
We used to love this shit Along with all the Rock we loved
I got this vinyl when I was in the 7th grade, 1978. All the black girls at my school would sing this song a cappella in the parking lot. I didn’t know what it meant until I was like 14. A skinny white boy in Mississippi and I loved me some Rick James. You should read up on him a little bit and how he was supposed to be in a band with Neil Young.
