I can see that, it is excellent as a straight up drum machine with a bit of additional crazy you can add. If you are going to do a 1 box jam though I think having a nice loop is really useful.

No worries, glad it was helpful. I have a few more ES-1 videos on the channel that might help. It is a different workflow to a lot of grooveboxes produced nowadays, it has some limitations, but sometimes that makes you work more imaginatively.
Coincidentally I've dusted off my ES - mkII just this last month and wondering why I bothered getting the Sample 2. My first sampler was the Akai S612. Samplers should be simple to tweak like the ES. I heard lately that if you're going to get into Synths don't bother with hardware unless you're getting an analog synth or a Sampler. I kind of agree.
I agree, Samplers should be easy to tweak which is one of the reasons I got the Model:Samples. It's so immediate and hands on. I do think there is a place for an old fashioned rompler style synth. I'm just never going to be able to create the kind of high level multi layered samples of bread and butter sounds they come with, but I can see the point. If you have a decent sampler and a quality sample pack then essentially you have a rompler. I'm just not a sample pack collecting kind of guy, not sure if that hinders me more than anything else.
I got an ESX1 I really love it, I wanted an Electribe since the first one. I been thinking about a Roland box to use with an ipad. Not sure Im gonna like it, but only one way to find out. Would you buy the MC101 over the 707 if you had it to do over? I really want the SP sequencer. Even been thinking of the TR8s…. but only if it was way cheaper than the 707 cuz the 707 ohoh the other one too the MVWhatever…, ohhhh my brain hurts🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯
GAS is a killer. Too many choices, way to many considerations and never enough time and money to learn it all! The 707 looks really good and if I had the money I might have got one. However I like to work with different boxes that play together nicely and compliment each other with different approaches to working. Of all the under £500 grooveboxes the 101 has the best quality sound engine and although the sequencer is excellent and does the job well, it doesn't have the depth of the elektrons, or the rapid workflow of the tracks. For building solid musical tracks the Roland approach is the best in my opinion.
someone just gifted me the ES1. Ive been holding off trying anything original with it. Im not tech. I wanted to start by sampling 'organic' sounds via mic..like youve done.. and learn from there so thanks for this basic video...very straight forward..Since its pre owned...I have no idea if the patterns I have are factory presets , how many, or done by the previous owner(s)...where can i find a listening sample of the factory presets ? specifically 42 lol

Never had an es1 but er1 yes itd be cool if korg could bring this back but in a meat and potatoes form like these old boxes. The model samples is more closer to a es1 than the electribe 2 i love the 2 sound quality but workflow is a nightmare

Can you help I've got a blank pattern on the es1 ,everything set up to work , i follow all instructions I've seen on you tube and it still refuses to sample. Do you think the unit is probably faulty .I've had it over a week now and can externally sample .at at all . ?

@@DocBolus the guy sent me the big wafer card through the post but i never worked out how to save to it .to be honest Doc I'm keeping all the use of the equipment use to a minimum so I don't get bored with it if you know what I mean bro i done a track on UA-cam and samples a section from the ferry corsten mix of solange messages using the es1. Then I built up extra layers from the volca bass and the ea1 and rd9 and nts volca effects box and crave . .good fun bro .
@@discharge2331 sounds sweet man. The wafer cards are weird and can be a bit flaky. Everything is done by numbers and that doesn't make things easy but it is what it is. A bit of old school kit that's fun to play with and has it's own sound.

Nice. I love my ES-1. I rarely use it with full loops though. Mostly use it as an experimental drum machine, making use of the motion sequencing.

Have you checked to see if you have enough space in the memory to add another sample. Remember it's an old machine and sampling time is limited.
I didn't realise I had to delete samples to make extra room . Thanks .
