Bro she GETS it when it comes to music and instruments. Gretsch has always been my fave guitar brand but this video just made me bigger Boygenius and julien baker fan for sure.
If every marketing video for signature guitar gear felt this personal, I'd have bought every single one. It felt like when you were asking a new friend who's very shy about their favorite hobby, and they don't get to talk about it a lot. The conversation started off slow but you eventually found the right questions to ask to help them open up and they just kept talking, and you listened intently for as long as they wanted to talk because you were just happy they were sharing their joy with you.

JB's vocabulary is spectacular.
It's very important to use signature guitars to foster the idea of the "band player". There are 1000+ instagram shredders demonstrating the cutting edge of what is difficult to play at the fastest speed possible with no mistakes. But I miss the idea of a bunch of friends hanging out in the basement just to play songs together, not to show off technique or complexity for it's own sake. This looks like a good value band guitar for a band player.

She’s not forcing anything or trying too hard to be someone she’s not. She just plays simple and beautiful music without any tension. The guitar is an extension of what she is trying to express and she’s true to herself.

If I decide to take a look at this and get it, it will be totally because of Julien Baker. She's brilliant in the way she thinks about her gear.
Now that's the way to present a guitar. Real to all. Sometimes we don't need a "virtuoso" playing it, we just want ot enjoy a good sounding tool. All power to people like the Vai's and Satrianis or the world, but a good blues or rhythm groove sometimes goes a long way and does the job. I'm a Gretsch owner and not the expensive line, and these instruments are inspiring for me as a singer/songwriter, music producer and live performer. They take you somewhere else. Excelent guitar guys! Will try it soon when it hits the local stores. Cheers!
I would recommend to watch her little desk performance. It's one I find myself coming back to again and again. She conveys emotion in her music like not many can.
I think I have rarely felt so emotionally touched by music than the songs by Julien.

Julien is a prime example -- and thankfully, one of many -- that we can all hold up to those who grumble, "There's no good music anymore" (or something similar). There is so much talent and creativity in this superb musician and creator.
And, wow, I absolutely love and agree with the philosophy espoused here. On guitar, on music, on creating, on living.

Very nice for the band to be embracing Gretsch. A very cool company that is back in control of the Gretsch family with the help of Fender (who Julien has also promoted; she seems to have a fondness for Telecasters). In their SNL performance Lucy also had a Gretsch for one of the songs (looked like a different model though ?solid body). I recently picked up a used Gretsch Streamliner small semi-hollow body (similar to this one) and was blown away by the playability, overall quality, light weight and cool look for the price. Perfect guitar for a beginner (thinner, flatter neck, low action) who want’s something cool, old school-looking, and different from the mainstream. The light weight and smaller (Jr) body and shorter scale is also great for someone on the smaller side; doesn’t impact the sound. I think this model has upgraded pickups from mine, which still sound great. Don’t hesitate to purchase if you are thinking on it. I don’t think you could go wrong.
Instant purchase for me. Julien has always had incredible guitar tone and I know she would only put her stamp on something special.
Such a beautiful choice of words to describe interaction with the guitar (or any other instrument for that matter) that really doesn't get touched on by most in discussion.

Her outfit matching with the guitar is so pleasant on the eyes. I also love Julien’s tattoo style and how articulate she is
MAN, she always just -- says something perfect. The design of this guitar sounds, frankly, awesome -- I'd have killed for a smaller, lower-action, really responsive guitar as a teenager. I got frustrated and gave up learning on my dad's acoustic; I couldn't do bar(re?) chords. I played violin from age 4: I didn't remember sucking just at making sound. (Now, as an adult, I wish I could go back.) But also, the theme of communication. I've been reading about nonverbal -- and verbal, and signed -- communication, language and disability and stigma, dialect, culture, music and all sorts of interrelated concepts all week and I just want another hour of Julien philosophizing about how a guitar links to languaging.

@@BennyMiller I ordered too! I definitely would buy a Julien Tele. I am glad they did this Boygenius Gretsch though. Great surprise! And I always wanted a semi hollow and a Gretsch. So.....they had me all too easy with this. I have a lot of guitars. No hollow or semi hollow. No Gretsch. Nothing with filtertrons. It was too easy to get me 🤣. I wish it had a Bigsby. But Bigsby would make it cost more surely......and Trapeze makes it probably easy to rubber bridge if you want. So many great things. I love what they did. Love the inlays. Love all their signatures are on it. Love it is all 3 of them. Love the color scheme. Love love love.

@@CrazyLazyDave I think it was a cost saving measure most of all… But I think it’s also more practical for the average player to have some kind of fixed tailpiece… The trapeze is not bad. It might be fun to trick it out with a roller bridge and maybe a Graphtec nut. Or… The super deluxe version with a roller nut and locking tuners.😳😳😳🥳🥳😜👑👑

I mean, I don’t even know boygenius. Let me know I’ve heard of them. But something about this Guitar really cold to me. In a way it’s me trying to make up for nerving having purchased the Susanna Hoffs Rickenbacker. I think that was one of the coolest guitarist of all time. Three-quarter size body with the check to binding… Black and white. Really good looking. I think there’s one on reverb now for like $4000.

I always hated playing with other people because for a long while, it was just comparison. Between the breaking down of my hands and worsening mental illness, it just ended my drive to play. Been trying (slowly) find my way back

Listening to Julien talk about how this guitar was designed to be easy to play for new players and how they wanted to make a guitar that made getting started more accessible all while knowing they only made, like, 10 of these is really sad.

Believe so of instrument Impedence of beginners guitars. I found and fixed hundreds and made them more playable than they were when I found them so kids don't have to play impeded and allow them ease of play, go discover have fun 😊.
This is why Fender is killing it with the new artists. They’re willing to make something new and work with the people who are getting other people interested in playing guitar.
I think Gibson could give some space to the newer players while also making their hundredth Kirk Hammett or Slash signature model (which they 100% deserve).
I've always been very curious/tempted about getting a Gretsch and this might be it... Too bad about the shipping and taxes to Europe 😢

I've been wanting a hollow or semi-hollow guitar to add to my collection for a while now but never saw one that really spoke to me. I told myself I would wait until I saw one that did. The wait is over.

🙂 hahaha. Actually the drum kit's have always been "Broadkaster" and Fender got the cease and desist over the "Broadcaster" name back in 1951. It's amusing that Fender now owns Gretsch.
