It seems to be the body shape of the G2655 Stremliner but with the Blacktopfiltertrons of the Electromatic guitar line. This is my favourite Body shape and my favorite line of Gretsch Pickups. So it is Gonna be an great guitar.
Thanks for watching! You'll probably see some other channels talk about it on weekly/monthly news roundups, but since Gretsch didn't send out demo units or anything, it's not surprising that there aren't many videos.
Thanks for spotlighting this Emily - I think it’s a brilliant move for Gretsch and a huge stamp of approval for that brand from one of the hottest acts right now. I’ve been so impressed with the Gretsch product especially with what they provide at the $300-800 range they have so many guitars that to me blow away the price competition in terms of fit/finish, tone, and playability and this tells me a lot about their brand ethos. Love the message!
It's nice to see the trend of more women getting into guitar over the past decade or so. Fender (who essentially owns Gretsch) really has been doing a great job marketing to women and young girls and giving them a way into the guitar world. Watching Gibson and other makers market exclusive to overly masculine dudes and boomer blues lawyers has been incredibly disheartening. And yeah, Julien fucking shreds. What a lil legend!
Cool to see someone talking about this so soon after the announcement! I've been thinking about getting a Gretsch for some time and this could be a great start, shame about the Europe shipping and tax fees... Also I'm assumming it comes without a case since I haven't found any info about it.
It would have been nice to offer this in their European store, or let Gretsch do the worldwide distribution. But I ordered it anyways after Julien's video, before they're gone. 😅
@@ThePedalboardOrchestra I have to agree with what Emily says in the video here, I believe the preorder and long wait until shipping is to produce as many as are sold. But anyway, I just ordered mine as well just in case 😂
@@GetOffset good to know! Thanks for the response and keep up the good content, I'd already watch some of your stuff (especially when I was thinking about getting a Jazzmaster) but didn't subscribe until now, shame on me 🙃
I ordered one a few days after they went on sale. I had never really heard any Boygenius music, but I had always wanted a Gretsch, and the video with Julien won me over instantly. I will almost feel bad keeping it, since there are so many dedicated Boygenius followers out there, but it sure seems like it will be a nice guitar!
I heard about it on Instagram two days since the official release and definitely jumped to order mine prior to the soon after Grammy awards came on. It's actually a gift for my daughter who is a way bigger fan of all these indie pop musicians but I am willing to throw down what I've learned on piano and my creative acts overall onto this impressive instrument. Either way limited edition and it's personality give it a lot of charm for sure worth buying this guitar than not. Best of luck to you and your own copy!🎉
I had not heard of boygenius before your video. They are great!! Totally agree with you about the need for more diversity in guitar oriented music. It is indeed better now, but still so much more space for improvement…
Great video and I love Boygenius. As a player and lover of a Gretsch double cut semi-hollow I know how great they are and this model looks sweet! And your channel inspired me to hunt down my own Mad Cat Tele (copy). Keep up the great work and love your content.
I’ve seen other videos you’ve done, but this one made me a subscriber of yours! I’m a Gretsch fan (Rockabilly player) and have one of these on order! boygenius is one of my favorite groups (loving each member’s music) and the guitar has a great vibe to it!
new sub & fellow content creator! Agree. I mean The Record was my AOTY & seeing this guitar today... I had to hide my credit card cool to see fellow bg fans. keep on groovin your way! ~mark
Well said about women in the guitar world. More female ambassadors like yourself needed on YT. Rebecca Dirks, formerly of Premier Guitars, was a great interviewer, a passionate gear nerd and still missed.
This is great because this is the guitar that Gretsch sued Fender about the Broadcaster name. Such nice details. You are right , this should sell like hotcakes to the all the ladies rocking out there. That 27 year thing is a bit ominous.
I don't listen to boygenius but i think its cool as shit they got a signature guitar. Seeing legacy guitar brands parenting with young bands rules! It's way cooler than Gibson releasing another Slash model lol.
I’m disappointed, not a standard line model but one of the cheapo ones. If you’re played those sub $1000 models and then played the made in Japan ones , you know they’re way different in sound, feel and build quality. Still as a kids first guitar, it’s not a bad choice.
That's the market they're going for, for sure. Julien says as much in the official launch video. As long as it gets kids playing guitar, I'm fine with it not being "for me." I'd way rather a guitar that's targeting their fans as customers be affordable (while maintaining basic build quality) above all else.
Yes they’re not bad guitars, especially compared to what I started on. But I would have liked a special edition falcon or penguin. I know I’m not the target audience of course
@@zekmoe I think they hit a good price. I'm in my 40s. I have a dozen guitars. This is the 2nd most expensive guitar I have purchased. I agree a Japanese build would be much nicer. But this current price is already hard for a lot of people, and will price out many as it is. Luckily the lower end Gretsch guitars are perfectly fine guitars. They are definitely good enough. $700 is a very expensive guitar for a beginner. There are perfectly fine guitars for way less. I think they hit a great middle ground in price. They can be built good enough for a intermediate to pro player, but still be affordable enough to justify for a beginner/novice. I have been playing a long time....but I'm still not too great 😅. Hard for me to justify spending over $1k. I have only spent over $1k once. And yeah...I'd rather have 12 guitars I think are cool and get the job done, than a couple actually nice guitars. Good enough is good enough. In my opinion. Considering the target demographic, they're surely going to sell more guitars to more people at this price. If they were more expensive I doubt there would be as many buyers. And the idea here is to inspire people to play. So I also am glad they aren't cheaper lesser quality guitars. This feels right to me.
@@zekmoe I want that Paisley Penguin so bad 😅. Anyway....you made me curious which line, because you were correct price is on the margin. It is a Streamliner. I Google searched for images and found some stock images where if you zoom you can see the label in the f-hole. Says Streamliner. So yeah...the most expensive Streamliner instead of the cheapest Electromatic. Figured. Since it's $699 and you know there's an artist premium attached. At least Indonesia makes alright guitars these days.
Kind of boring for a signature guitar.....It is esentially a black Gretsch 339, I think the size and model is not new to this launch. May be the pickups would make some spicier difference to the standard Gretsch pickups. I guess you can always say it could have been worse.
@@GetOffset Affordable may be, I wonder about quality compared to Streamliner and electromatic lines. If it is a Streamliner with some special details I would`t highlight its affordability, if it is a electromatic it is definetly affordable. I am confused also with the Broadkaster tag, it makes it more difficult to compare it with other Gretsch guitars in the current catalogue.
@@herroglop7411 as a fan of all 3 of them, in my own opinion, I think this is perfect and they did a great job. The nods to them may be a bit "IYKYK", but....IYKYK 🤷♂️. And also it still is cool for people that aren't fans too. It isn't overly obvious a boygenius guitar unless you know or are close enough to read the plate. I think it is priced in the proper range for the target buyer. As far as is being a Broadkaster..... Julien is a Tele player and so is Lucy. The Telecaster was a Broadcaster until Gretsch asked Fender to stop using that name. Now Fender owns Gretsch guitars. It's actually a nice little hidden connection that I think is cool.

It's great to see a signature model that's affordable, and it looks pretty good too.
It really is! Especially considering the Dave Grohl Epiphone is apparently going to be pretty spendy.
So glad they got a guitar. So well deserved! Julien is such an inventive player. Amazing band.
Absolutely love the fret inlays, wonderful little touch on a classic looking guitar!
Those inlays are just so nice!
