- Gamer Ahmer: I’m EMBARRASSED By My GAME ROOM…
Retro gaming refers to playing and collecting video games, consoles, and accessories from previous generations, typically from the 1970s to the early 2000s. This nostalgic hobby encompasses a wide range of systems, such as the Atari 2600, Nintendo Entertainment System (NES), Sega Genesis, and original PlayStation. Enthusiasts appreciate the classic gameplay mechanics, pixelated graphics, and unique soundtracks that defined an era before modern advancements in gaming technology. Retro gaming not only celebrates the history and evolution of video games but also provides a means to preserve and experience the charm and challenge of older titles.

I'm sixty years young and have been collecting video games/systems since 1977. And I can relate to everything you have endured. However, I'm no longer to the point of being embarrassed about my hobbies or anything really. At the end of the day, do whatever makes you happy and don't worry about anyone else...🙂
Very true! Thats a great outlook to have. :)
Wow you got a interview please to send me the link so I can watch it
If there was a fire and I lost everything, I’d be done. I don’t think I’d start over. Depressing to think about. Lol
Oh that’s terrifying to think about.
Just thinking about it makes me want to put all my gaming stuff in pelican cases and keep them locked up.
I don't really have piles of games laying around because I put them up and clean them as they come in. My battle in the game room is dust. I'm constantly dusting every week. The only other battle I have is I'm running out of room. 😅
I’m lucky on the dusting end. Just always wish we all had more space! Definitely never enough!
@@GamerAhmer Truth!
I love your game room, and this is by no means hating on yours. I will/would never have another game room in a basement. At least not one with actual collectables... My current house has an extra bedroom that I use, and when/if I move I would look for something that has a rec room or extra space, ground level or above. Even if you have amazing insurance, or whatever, a lot of that kind of stuff is irreplaceable or you couldn't get it again for what you originally paid. This is all from a bad experience I had before, but there are other factors too, like humidity/moisture that are terrible for electronics, paper products, and other things.
Exactly! Basements aren’t ideal but it is so much larger than the bedrooms upstairs. Just have to try to keep everything up to a higher standard. Constantly checking and inspecting things/areas that could be an issue.
While I enjoyed this entire video, my favorite part was seeing a bottle of the Mortal Kombat X Sub-Zero Imperial IPA on one of your shelves. I thought I was the only one with those bottles... haha.
@@retrowildlands yes!! Those were so cool when they had them in stores. I was shocked to see them.
My games have been in storage tubs. But it should change this month.
Oh that’ll be nice.
@@GamerAhmerI forgot to tell you at classic game fest, I scored my 94th n64 game. I hope to complete the set one day
@@coltonkelsey1783 woah!! That’s amazing! I love the Nintendo 64!
Constantly changing stuff around is part of the fun imo. But sometimes shit happens. Where I live we dont have basements but one night my wife started a load of laundry and went to bed. At some point the drain hose busted loose so all night it just dumped water in the floor and the game room is right across from the laundry room, When we woke up there was about 3" of water across our whole apartment. Saving grace is the apartment was tile floors throughout. Basically the bottom of all the shelves was ruined, some gamestop posters, and some 360 power bricks and leds were messed up. Was not too bad once we got it all dried up but the shelves only standing cause I have braced them up. If all goes well we will be buying our forever home next year so the new game room will be getting all new shelves.
Woah!! That’s crazy. I definitely have had that fear myself. So many people talk about these same water issues. But the shelves really took the most of the damage here too. And that’ll be amazing! New game rooms are so much fun to set up!
Your game room looks good i think you should get on interview for this achievement
Thank you so much!
@@GamerAhmer your welcome
When I watch your videos you always cheerful and happy.😊
😊 thank you
Emberaced? Nope. Jealous, i want to have that exact room and don't 😂😊
One day you might! Just keep it up. :)
who would be jealous? storing items in the shower is the behavior of a hoarder.
@@michaelmorgan9009 They were just being nice about all of the other areas of the collection. 🤷🏻♀️
We've had to deal with a little bit of water in our storage area but thankfully not in the game room and never a fire which would be devastating. I think the biggest thing for us with organization is only bringing in as much as the room can handle. Naturally, that means we can't have everything we want but better that for us than a cluttered room. I can't handle the room being disorganized and trying to play a game, so we settle on only being able to have a certain amount and that's fine for us. You gotta do what works for you and that'll be different for everyone.
Exactly! Thats why I love seeing everyone’s set up or gaming rooms because they are all different. It’s so fun to see!
Mine is just the clutter always running out of space
Space is the biggest issue.
I agree 100%. It took me 5 hours to put all of my recent pickups into my database, my backlog, and then sort them on the shelf. People have no idea.
It's a neverending struggle
Oh it sure is! Never ending.
You know the talk about flooding, fires and damage to game rooms as well as your own experience got me thinking, what's the worst thing that's happened to your collection?
For me, I put some Gamecube games into storage (had some nice copies of MGS TTS and more) as well as some PS2 titles in the garage but they've long since vanished. Unsure what happened to them but I remember being extremely disappointed when I couldn't find them. Somehow a handful were still there but the big titles were gone. Such a shame.
Oh no! Thats terrible. I wonder what happened to them. 🤔 And probably this recent flood. That was early on footage of it happening but the clean up was way worse and time consuming. A shop vac, multiple shampooers, dismantling shelves, having the carpet and padding fully dry. It was a mess and I was worried about things getting damaged if I didn’t clean it up fast. I’ve dropped things before and chipped items and game cases but the water really worried me.
For me its mostly keeping the room dust free, whenever i pick a game i have not played its usual a bit dutsy, that and the fact that at times i cant find the game. For instance, i knew i had the first Shinobi for mega drive but i could not find it. In the end i realized it was on a sega compilation cartridge.
Luckily I don’t get as much dust in the basement. I’ve replaced the HVAC unit since I’ve moved in. Replace the filters often, keep pets out of the area, no shoes on in the house, and I closed some of the vents. I mostly dust once in the beginning of the year before a game room tour and once at the end of the year before family comes over for the holidays. Those have helped me a bit. But I think it’s normal to have some dust.
And I’ve definitely misplaced and thought I’ve had games before.
Man, you're one of the realest collectors I've ever seen. That whole game room is insane. You even have a Blockbuster gumball machine, which is straight up nuts to have in your house. Like, how did yo even acquire that? 😂
I don't think I'd ever feel embarrassed about a collection like that, even if I was keeping things in the bathtub. It's weird, because you have such an amazing collection that it's causing you to have hoarder symptoms, but you're not a hoarder because these things have actual value within a collection. Crazy to say, but it sounds like you might need another home just to continue collecting within your spatial means, which is pretty -------> 🤯
I sincerely hope that you never have a flood.
I got lucky and found it on facebook marketplace! I did a video on the pickup a little while ago too. It was a crazy score!
And yes. It’s definitely clean and organized collecting. Definitely hoping to one day have more space for it all. So we shall see!
Thanks for watching and for the kind words!
Overflow into other rooms is a big one for me. You set something down in a room and say you'll get around to it later and you end up just adding to the pile before you get to it.
Oh exactly. I definitely have to try and be a bit better about that.
With all the items you have, I think you are doing an outstanding job.
Thank you so much for the kind words!
I don't put anything of value in a basement for obvious reasons.
If possible, build your game room in a room on the 2nd floor or higher.
That would be ideal but the basement was the biggest space.
Yes... the piles... In my case the "marlbscave" I use a lot of tubs and put the piles in the tubs so people don't see them. I do have a bit of an advantage which is that I have my my office in the basement and I tend to drag the tubs into my office and stack them in there when people come over. Of course that means that the tubs sit there till I work though the tubs. Totally can relate for sure.
Oh the tubs idea is a good one!
I'm not proud of the pile of bubble wrap and jiffy mailers next to my desk but everytime I throw them away I end up needing them. I think my worst mishaps are always when I'm trying to photograph a collection and games always fall over or off a shelf. Onetime I laid out a ton of games on the floor to get a picture of everything and when I picked everything off it was covered in dog hair and static dust.
Oh no! Thats terrible. But yes I try to save things in case I need them too. That’s how it always goes!
Would you ever do a house tour-MTV Cribs style? I ask because you say you have multiple bathrooms to the point some are used as storage. How big is your pad??
It’s not huge but that sounds like a fun idea. I remember how crazy they used to be with the cool stuff the places had.
I don't have a game room. I have a house with games somewhere. Your set up is my dream but I enjoy my reality. I can play a game in any room. There's no stress. Just plenty of fun.
Oh absolutely! That sounds great.
Your game room is gnarly, & the Pokimon stadium N64 is so killer
@@lootbaglarry8.2 Thanks! :)
11 years collecting I ran out of room long ago 😢
Oh no!
If I was a close friend or family member I would advise you to take a few months off of acquiring any new things until what you currently have is organized and anything that you don't want is sold off. Get it all dialed in along with creating the gaps you need for new pickups then get back at collecting.
Oh I’ll definitely have to set some time aside for it!
I worked at Blockbuster in Perryhall Maryland in 2002 or so and also the Parkville Location sometimes. I remember that gumball Machine so well.
That’s awesome!!
I really relate to this video. For me, my game room is on an upper floor on the side of the house that gets the most sun. I do use blackout curtains to protect the collection from sun damage but even so it gets very hot in there during the summer.
I hide clutter mostly in my master bedroom closet because guests don't go into my room but I'm definitely with you, I hate it when guests see piles or clutter.
Exactly! I don’t want people to focus on the clutter and mess but I want them to enjoy what I collect. And that’s tough. The blackout curtains are great for that. I used to do that when I had some of these on a front porch before I moved. It still would get hot in that front room though.
Don't change your gameroom Brandi it looks beautiful! Love watching your videos, and I enjoy your weekend! ❤
Thank you! You too! I appreciate the support. :)
I can relate to many things you said lol. I have about a 400 square-foot Game Room and it’s never enough. I always have piles of things that have come in, but I haven’t gone through organized yet, piles of things that I’m going through or moving and everything on camera is clean though of course ha ha. And it bugs me because I am one of those extremely organized people, but there is only so much time in the day. Lol.
Exactly! Too little time and never enough space!
You just put madd FEAR in MANY gamers ❤ right now girl #GamerAhmer But i'm not upset that you did it shit had to be told . Fellow gamers gotta know 👩🏼🌹🤗
Exactly!! Thanks for watching.
Please remove that shower/tub combo in your downstairs bathroom and turn it into display space, such as a World of Nintendo cabinet. That means you have to remove some plumbing, put up drywall and install flooring where the tub is now.
Woah! That would be crazy!
Lol until you have to pee really bad then it saves your life having to run upstairs 😅
As a total side note, any house I've lived in that had carpet was a giant pain. If I had my choice I would just rip it out. I guess I have to buy a house to be able to do that.
Oh definitely. One day I’ll switch it out. Just can’t do it at the moment. Too many projects. lol.
Cleaning and clutter are the biggest problems for me with my gameroom.. I hould love to have a giant gameroom so that space isn't a problem
Exactly! Never ending chores!
@@GamerAhmer 😁
I have my shelfs with 2 rows so I have to move the games in the front to get to games in the back row.
Oh I’ve had that before. Helps with space but it’s a lot to move things around to find certain games.
lol, same, you just get everything fitting on the shelves perfectly then, boom, a new pile of games!
BTW over here in NZ no one has basements. So no floods!
Exactly! More games appear!
And no basements?! That’s crazy.
Our gaming space is always a work in progress - it's not always easy to remember where something is because it gets moved, used, put in totes...
Exactly! I agree with that. I’m hopefully going to organize it all much better
I’m a little embarrassed not by my collection but by my cable management and the fact I don’t keep it clean like I should. I used to be embarrassed about the size of my room and I couldn’t have a huge collection like a lot of people. But I have learned how to properly manage my space and I have been able to do a lot with a small space. A plus with my room is it is upstairs and on linoleum flooring. So I don’t have to worry about flooding from broken pipes. Leaky roof maybe but thank the Lord that is holding up well.
Cable management is always a struggle. Thats not the best in my game room either. It takes time and patience to manage that. And definitely sounds like you have a better place for the game room. It’s definitely not ideal in a basement.
I'm embarassed my gameroom isn't as cool as yours!
I appreciate the kind words! :)
Haha that's how it is with collecting. and there has to be separation. our upstairs is devoid of any game stuff and we are trying to keep it that way lol
Exactly! It’s the same here. The “normal” rooms have to be game free
Because of flood risks, I will never put my valuable stuff within 1.5 - 2 feet of the floor. It may not be enough, but its better than nothing. My most expensive stuff always goes in the strategically best positions to survive tipped furniture/flooding/sun exposure.
That’s definitely smart! Definitely something I’ll keep in mind.
I just finally got through my pile from SoCal and SEGE and wouldn’t you know it, there’s a new pile from this month 🤦♂️ the never ending piles of games 😂. Glad to hear the flooding didn’t cause you too much of an issue at least!
Never ending! Haha. That’s awesome to hear there are more games. And I’m glad it wasn’t worse.
My collection is stressful and a bit embarrassing. Just stacks of toys and games to deal with. But this kind of hobby is fairly new, were all amateurs at it. Lower the pressure weekly.
Just takes time and patience. When I started it took me several tries to find the best ways to store and display items.
That closet situation why I don't buy collector editions any more. They are way too big and I can't display them so they'll just sit boxed up in a closet. I rather free up that space for other things.
Oh exactly. I take them out to display them and then have to store the boxes. So it’s double the space used. :/
I have piles everywhere and definitely need to organize
It’s never ending!
Oh wow I'm sorry to hear that you had to go through that
It’s ok. I was lucky enough to handle it as it happened. Super thankful it wasn’t worse.
I am not allowed to have a sloppy game room anymore. When it was in the basement it was a lot more messy. Now it is in the loft. I let my new games pile up for a month then I record and put away. You have to set boundaries for the space you allow collectibles and stay within that space. My dogs did pee on a dvd shelf so many times it ruined the shelf and all of the movies.
Oh no that’s terrible! And absolutely! Things are going to change. I’m moving things around for the better!
I like your Blockbuster gumball machine. I still have my membership card. it's good to preserve that stuff.
Woah! Thats amazing. Definitely a nostalgic item for sure!
It’s all funny because it’s true! 😂 The piles, the closet space! The shuffling around of the items. 🤣 Content creation actually makes it even worse because of the space needed for recording and of the items found that you want to show off. Probably the biggest problem though…dust.
I’m lucky on the dust end. After the new HVAC, constant changing of the filter, no shoes in the house, no pets in the game/toy rooms, and yearly dustings I’m good to go. But the closets are all full! lol
Great essay!
Thanks!
I dunno if I'd really say I'm embarassed but you've seen my setup I think. :P My desk is is in the same room and usually a complete mess. I always have to really quickly clean and reorganize any time I do a video or have somebody over.
When you were talking about climate control like dehumidifiers it got me wondering though. How toasty does it get in there? Dehumidifiers I know will make the room hot to begin with but all those electronics (especially if they are running) have to generate a ton of heat.
Yes I know the quickly clean feeling when people come over.
And luckily the basement is colder than the rest of the house so when all of the lights and systems are on it takes a while to get the “toasty” feeling. It’s not bad majority of the time. Just on those rare occasions I have it all on for people to see.
@@GamerAhmer ahh okay. My room in my apartment can turn into an oven with my computer going and one of my guitar amps especially if the door is shut
I keep my Collection in my bedroom but it isnt a gameroom its all my vintage mint on card wwf figs about 10 grand worth
Oh wow! That’s an awesome collection!
I'm embarrassed of my collection because I would say 9900 of my games are packed away and no longer on display.
Oh no! Thats terrible!

@@AMBIGUITY1976 Thank you!
Embarrassed? Sounds like life to me. I wouldn’t be embarrassed by any of that.
True! It’s a good problem to have
Honestly Ahmer, I don't really factor in any of this stuff. The water damage is awful to hear, but I never really thought any of these rooms as disorganized or not using the right amount of space. At least when I see YOUR game room, I always think of a local video game store that sells everything.
In time I’ll be able to organize a bit more. Just hoping no more water! Lol.
I still show people pictures of my Luigium at certain events such as conventions and most recently a Play Nintendo Tour, but the pictures I've been showing are from a few years ago now. My bedroom is currently due for a major overhaul since I have stuff piling up everywhere, so it doesn't currently look as nice as it did in those pictures. While I do want to display all my Luigi stuff, I do want to still display the other stuff I love as well such as my Sonic stuff which I may need to switch around with the Luigi stuff since my Sonic shelves are an even bigger mess, then in another part of my bedroom, I'm trying to display things in categories mainly based on nostalgia such as Cartoon Network, Disney, Pixar, Nickelodeon, Jim Henson and others.
That sounds awesome though! And yes little sections of things you enjoy and can group together look awesome. Thats how my toy room upstairs is. All little sections of things I enjoy. Sounds like an awesome collection!
I love your game room!
Thank you!
where does that door behind the xbox 360 sign go? is it suppose to be an exit? you probably should have a emergency exit in the game room in case of a fire.
It is and I know I should. For these videos it is blocked like that. Typically it doesn’t have as much there though. 🤦🏻♀️

Collecting is just hoarding cool stuff
Oh definitely!
Ha no way it rules
Thank you!
Have you dusted your stuff?
Yes! Everything gets a thorough cleaning a few times a year.
I guess the biggest thing I'm embarrassed about my game room is that it's actually my room, b/c I still live with my Mom. I have a queen size bed right in the middle of it. But I think it looks pretty tidy and displayed well compared to the amount of stuff I have. I pretty much maxed out all my space with only a few more N64 games to collect. Maybe a few more books. I have about 25 collectible books, 2 statues, 2 paintings, 40 movies, and 400 games/14 consoles. Overall, I'm pretty proud of it.
Nothing wrong with that. We all started like that. I’ve definitely changed things over the years and finally have my place to do what I want with. That sounds like an awesome collection!
