Hi, just came across your video/vlogs and had to stop and comment as I totally understand the frustration. I am in the process of moving and we had all set on moving on the 3rd October - low and behold the solicitors at the bottom had a glitch as they had overlooked something and we all got put on hold. Great news, we exchanged yesterday with the move set for next Tuesday - now it's step by step panic stations. If that wasn't the only commonality - I am moving to a cottage that the surveyor says was built around 200 - 250 yrs ago. Again, likewise the report highlights an issue with damp in many places. Did it deter me NO, maybe I'm mad as I'm in my late 60's but I refuse to live and think now as if i was already in my 80's or 90's. YES mad as a hatter. Back to your vlog now. All best wishes

Many years ago in UK we had the same gorgeous cream colored Lab, her name was Susie which in time became Suzy-woozy, then Woozle. We had to leave her behind with friends when we migrated to the US, and the 'kids', now grown of course, still talk about Woozle - the very best of dogs, so loving, so special, what a joy to watch yours ! We had several other dogs over the years in the US but none of them ever lived up to that special girl Woozle ! Enjoy your new project, and good luck with the move !

Glad to hear that the stress for signatures is history. That categorizing of priorities was fun to listen because your Scottish voices are smooth as a smoothie (a thick milkshake with a favorite fruit). My preferences align with Adam's practicality. So, at the top of the To Do list, the refrig., hearth, & wash machine deserve the immediate attention in the first week of home ownership. Strolling along thru the warehouse with you Scotts is fun. That 2nd standup cupboard (at digital, aka.digi., 19 minutes : 28 seconds) is far more masculine with the glass tower shelves on both sides than the roll top secretary. With some minor modifications, it would easily do double duty as a desk. The wood that covers the center pockets can be recycled into thin frames for sliding small glass doors to fit in with the handsome tower glassed shelves. The 2 large middle drawers can be recycled for a pullout table (that acts as a worktable and as a desk) that is commonly seen as a bread board. And the absence of the drawers will allow the leg room while seated in high-back captain's sailor chair with wheels. Definitely like Johnny's drink cabinets shown at digi. 23:50. Very solid design. The tranquil vista at digi. 27:00 of you two on the wooden bridge was a calm ending to a most pleasant visit. Thank you. Adam of CA.

As someone who has moved house in the last 6 months, you mentioned changing of driving licence details and car insurance, please remember to change your V5 documents too before your car tax is due. Found out that the Tax Reminder isn't included in Royal Mail redirection so I had alot of extra hassle to tax my car. Anyway, all the best in your cottage, may it bring you many happy memories.x

Ah fantastic news! Things are really coming together now. Keep packing and each day remove luxuries lol, till by that Wednesday before you get the van you have 2 of each mugs, plates, etc, no cushions on the sofa, one towel each, all washing and drying up to date. Freezer, fridge and food cupboards used up as much as you can, cleaning products reduced etc - a good chance to get rid of loads of 'keeping just in case' stuff. Try to empty rooms and get all boxes downstairs if you can and stack in one room so that you can at least clean the empty rooms and close doors on them before the day. - Im so excited for you 3 its stressful but hopefully this will be the last one you will do x

A friend of mine bought some old cabinets from that auction house In Hamilton years ago, a while later noticed fine dust all around the bottom of them, turned out there was live woodworm in them, check for any small holes before you buy 😂

That was a bumpy week you both have ! I can image how stressful those days are if you not for the 100 % sure if things will turn the way they shut be, but finally papers are sign seal and delivered !! And that us what counts ! Now the last bits and pieces to pick up and than finally you both will be on your way to the Cottage, and i can image that there so much work to do until that moment , but there will be light at the end of the tunnel for sure ! I am in our marriage the more and pessimist but also the fantastic person while my husband is more the cool type and see always a silver lining on almost every problem ! So its the same as with you two, and that is why the relationship is working so well ! A big week for you both. What a relief that the missives are out of the way. The Scottish system used to be much better than the English one with the missives signed well in advance, but now, as you say, it´s all very last minute and stress inducing. Here in Portugal, the CPCV (like the missives) are done about half way through the transaction. A hefty deposit is required with the CPCV which the buyer will lose if they back out after they have signed. Much better. Good luck with the move

Another Great Vlog guys. I have moved many times and in my experience Solicitors are the worst for holding things up, and also bad communicators. They just don't think ahead like we do in my opinion. Johnny’s actually a bit of an introvert, but he has these bursts of excitement and energy, while Adam is also on the introverted side but more methodical, relaxed, and tends to think things through carefully. We are similar in our processes in Oz but once contracts have been signed and deposits paid it normally goes ahead (only exception is a 'subject to' sale). Deposits are 10% of the purchase price and sit in the agent's trust account, however in some states vendors can get access before settlement. If a party pulls out they forfeit the deposit. Been looking forward to your next instalment - Adam looks a bit happier, well sort of 😅

Just for future reference it would be highly unusual for the missives not be signed at this late stage in the process. In Scotland if late stage missives are not signed it will have repercussions for the seller, lawyers and estate agents will ususally not deal again with sellers who do this. It is not like England where people seem to change dates willy-nilly. My missives were signed a couple of days before I moved.

Don't send your driving licence away before you have shown them to the van hire company. I know someone who was caught out that way. Normally they like to see both the card and the green paper.

Now that the missives are signed ill let you know our horror story, we bought a house from a couple that were separating, after 8 weeks the day before we are due to move in the guy backs out, luckily we were in a flat that we normally rent out so no chain involved, we still had to pay fees and had no recourse with the seller

Guys, how far is the drive between your current home and the cottage? I don't remember you saying, but that's obviously a factor on move day, especially seeing as you're doing the move yourself.. at least you won't have loads of large furniture pieces to move, they're usually the killer.. oh and lovely cabinet Johnny.. now you practice saying it until you get away from saying Apoc instead of Apoth....😂 Keen to see the big cottage reveal/tour. This was the only comfy spot left in the house when we filmed, and the rest is absolutely packed with boxes-even the living room, though you can’t see them in this shot! 😅 We’ve definitely made more progress since then, and all those pictures on the wall are now down and safely packed away. Hi, just came across your video/vlogs and had to stop and comment as I totally understand the frustration. I am in the process of moving and we had all set on moving on the 3rd October - low and behold the solicitors at the bottom had a glitch as they had overlooked something and we all got put on hold. Great news, we exchanged yesterday with the move set for next Tuesday - now it's step by step panic stations. If that wasn't the only commonality - I am moving to a cottage that the surveyor says was built around 200 - 250 yrs ago. Again, likewise the report highlights an issue with damp in many places. Did it deter me NO, maybe I'm mad as I'm in my late 60's but I refuse to live and think now as if i was already in my 80's or 90's. YES mad as a hatter. Back to your vlog now. All best wishes

Many years ago in UK we had the same gorgeous cream colored Lab, her name was Susie which in time became Suzy-woozy, then Woozle. We had to leave her behind with friends when we migrated to the US, and the 'kids', now grown of course, still talk about Woozle - the very best of dogs, so loving, so special, what a joy to watch yours ! We had several other dogs over the years in the US but none of them ever lived up to that special girl Woozle ! Enjoy your new project, and good luck with the move !

Glad to hear that the stress for signatures is history. That categorizing of priorities was fun to listen because your Scottish voices are smooth as a smoothie (a thick milkshake with a favorite fruit). My preferences align with Adam's practicality. So, at the top of the To Do list, the refrig., hearth, & wash machine deserve the immediate attention in the first week of home ownership.
Strolling along thru the warehouse with you Scotts is fun.
That 2nd standup cupboard (at digital, aka.digi., 19 minutes : 28 seconds) is far more masculine with the glass tower shelves on both sides than the roll top secretary. With some minor modifications, it would easily do double duty as a desk. The wood that covers the center pockets can be recycled into thin frames for sliding small glass doors to fit in with the handsome tower glassed shelves. The 2 large middle drawers can be recycled for a pullout table (that acts as a worktable and as a desk) that is commonly seen as a bread board. And the absence of the drawers will allow the leg room while seated in high-back captain's sailor chair with wheels.
Definitely like Johnny's drink cabinets shown at digi. 23:50. Very solid design.

As someone who has moved house in the last 6 months, you mentioned changing of driving licence details and car insurance, please remember to change your V5 documents too before your car tax is due. Found out that the Tax Reminder isn't included in Royal Mail redirection so I had alot of extra hassle to tax my car.

Ah fantastic news! Things are really coming together now. Keep packing and each day remove luxuries lol, till by that Wednesday before you get the van you have 2 of each mugs, plates, etc, no cushions on the sofa, one towel each, all washing and drying up to date. Freezer, fridge and food cupboards used up as much as you can, cleaning products reduced etc - a good chance to get rid of loads of 'keeping just in case' stuff. Try to empty rooms and get all boxes downstairs if you can and stack in one room so that you can at least clean the empty rooms and close doors on them before the day. - Im so excited for you 3 its stressful but hopefully this will be the last one you will do x

A friend of mine bought some old cabinets from that auction house In Hamilton years ago, a while later noticed fine dust all around the bottom of them, turned out there was live woodworm in them, check for any small holes before you buy 😂

That was a bumpy week you both have ! I can image how stressful those days are if you not for the 100 % sure if things will turn the way they shut be, but finally papers are sign seal and delivered !! And that us what counts ! Now the last bits and pieces to pick up and than finally you both will be on your way to the Cottage, and i can image that there so much work to do until that moment , but there will be light at the end of the tunnel for sure ! I am in our marriage the more and pessimist but also the fantastic person while my husband is more the cool type and see always a silver lining on almost every problem ! So its the same as with you two, and that is why the relationship is working so well ! A big week for you both. What a relief that the missives are out of the way. The Scottish system used to be much better than the English one with the missives signed well in advance, but now, as you say, it´s all very last minute and stress inducing. Here in Portugal, the CPCV (like the missives) are done about half way through the transaction. A hefty deposit is required with the CPCV which the buyer will lose if they back out after they have signed. Much better. Good luck with the move

Another Great Vlog guys. I have moved many times and in my experience Solicitors are the worst for holding things up, and also bad communicators. They just don't think ahead like we do in my opinion. We are similar in our processes in Oz but once contracts have been signed and deposits paid it normally goes ahead (only exception is a 'subject to' sale). Deposits are 10% of the purchase price and sit in the agent's trust account, however in some states vendors can get access before settlement. If a party pulls out they forfeit the deposit. Been looking forward to your next instalment - Adam looks a bit happier, well sort of 😅

Just for future reference it would be highly unusual for the missives not be signed at this late stage in the process. In Scotland if late stage missives are not signed it will have repercussions for the seller, lawyers and estate agents will ususally not deal again with sellers who do this. It is not like England where people seem to change dates willy-nilly. My missives were signed a couple of days before I moved.

It’s definitely been stressful, but we’re glad to hear that it’s rare for things to fall through at this stage. Scotland's system has its quirks, but at least there are some safeguards! Don't send your driving licence away before you have shown them to the van hire company. I know someone who was caught out that way. Normally they like to see both the card and the green paper.

Now that the missives are signed ill let you know our horror story, we bought a house from a couple that were separating, after 8 weeks the day before we are due to move in the guy backs out, luckily we were in a flat that we normally rent out so no chain involved, we still had to pay fees and had no recourse with the seller

Guys, how far is the drive between your current home and the cottage? I don't remember you saying, but that's obviously a factor on move day, especially seeing as you're doing the move yourself.. at least you won't have loads of large furniture pieces to move, they're usually the killer.. oh and lovely cabinet Johnny.. now you practice saying it until you get away from saying Apoc instead of Apoth....😂 Keen to see the big cottage reveal/tour. You’re right-thankfully, we don’t have too much large furniture to deal with, which definitely helps! I follow several of these renovation vlogs, all wonderful and very different properties with the people saving them and bringing them back the condition they deserve. Two of them, Bramble Cottage, Wiltshire, and Life by Living, Portugal, are dealing diligently with stonework and lime plastering. It will be well worth your time to watch some of their episodes, they are lovely folk too! ❤ XXX

It doesn’t look like you have done much packing by the stuff still on the wall behind you? It always takes me weeks to pack up a house and I’ve done it 9 times so far .

This was the only comfy spot left in the house when we filmed, and the rest is absolutely packed with boxes-even the living room, though you can’t see them in this shot! 😅 We’ve definitely made more progress since then, and all those pictures on the wall are now down and safely packed away. I am a Scot, but emigrated as a teenager, so never bought a house there. The real estate laws sound a bit loose. Looking forward to seeing how you settle into an older property. The cottage looks much smaller than your current house. Are you downsizing? Hope the move goes well.

Funny enough, while the cottage looks smaller, it actually has a bit more space than our current house. We’ve also got plans to potentially convert some attic space or maybe even add a garden room or extension down the line. Appreciate your kind words, and we’ll keep you posted on how it all unfolds! 😊

Thanks for the suggestion, @cazzawazza9553! We actually managed to arrange a visit with the sellers yesterday evening and got all the measurements we needed. It’s definitely a relief to have that sorted before the move! Appreciate the idea, though-it would have been our next step if we couldn’t get in. 😊
